International cricket soccer international rugby. Tasmania is currently limited to the amount of concerts they attract due to the entertainment centre not having a large capacity a new indoor stadium will open up a lot more opportunities there
Good luck getting the socceroos and wallabies down there. It's hard enough getting the socceroos to play outside of Sydney.

I think it will start out at a 6-5 split with 6 being played in Launceston until the new stadium is built then it will end 7-4 Hobart

Or from the first season. The Tas team plays 4 games in Launie and 7 games in Hobart.

And… each year Hawks sell their home game against Tas to Launie and Roos sell their home game to Hobart. Bringing the number of games up to 5/8.

A bit like how Gold Coast sold a home game against Freo to Optus Stadium during the 2018 Commonwealth games, which still stands as their largest home game crowd attendance ever.

Hawks and Roos still get a bit of cash, and the two Tas stadiums get a little bit more usage by the new Tas AFL team.

Well maybe, but I think it defeats the purpose of building our own team somewhat.

There is absolutely no chance our government would pay for fifo games down here if we have our own club there would be very little interest in them as well

The Gold Coast arrangement was a one off due to there stadium being unavailable. The afl would not allow this on a regular basis as it’s effectively buying extra home games clubs like west coast would be buying extra games every year

Those two teams are currently getting about $1m per game. I can't imagine the Tasmanian government will be willing to give $2m while simultaneously funding the Tasmanian team.

It'd be alright if the AFL wanted to persuade them, but it always comes down to money.

I just worry it wouldn't be enough in Hobart for a brand new stadium although I also believe we would see a war if the people up here in the north didn't get any games.
I really wish we didn't see the two and a bit hours travel between Launceston and Hobart as if it were equivelant to taking the ring to Mordor

I fully agree but sadly that is the way a lot of Tasmanians are. If they don't do it right a Tassie team won't work due to the North South divide.

But there is more to it than that. There are people on the n-w coast as well who would be wanting to watch home games too.

Devonport to Hobart would be probably 3 to 3.5 hours, Burnie you could add on another half hour to that.

It makes sense to have games in Launceston to service the north of the state and games in Hobart to service the south of the state. Rusted ons can of course attend games at both venues.

Yes, but I'm sorry. If there is a new stadium in Hobart it isn't going to only be for 7 games. It will be at least 9.

You must be involved in the decision making process given the absolute certainty of your statement.

The Herald Sun is tonight reporting that Brownlow medal day will highly likely be D day for Tasmania's AFL bid.

So, September 19. They keep creeping it further away, but it's good to have a set date.

Does D Day mean a decision announced? Or that's just when a vote will take place?
It's not certain yet and I really hope that will be the decision date because we were originally going to get a decision at the end of August.

I doubt the AFL would want anything to take away from Brownlow night.

If anything, I'd think it'd be a day earlier if it's bad news, so the attention will be on the Brownlow the next day, Or the day after if it's good news, so it'll get more attention in the media. ;)

But they are still having the meeting by this Tuesday?
