Nice one boys, soooo many doubters will make the journey soooo sweeet.
Give them ponies a run and many will check themselves at the gate. Carn the dons.

Jobe Watson, David Hille, Dustin Fletcher, Tayte Pears, David Zaharakis, Mark McVeigh, Kyle Riemers, Andrew Welsh.

That is 8 best 22 players missing, off the top of my head.

Hurley played about 10 mintes.

that is still a closer full strength side then st kilda

Pretty sure Essendon rely on Watson, Hille, Fletcher & Pears more than St Kilda rely on the St Kilda players you listed. It is laughable to argue that Essendon were close to full strength. 8-10 of you best 22 as well as arguably your best 3 players is not close to full strength.

Sainter 12 you missed the point!

Macbeth7 was stating those 9 best 22 players because he was replying to some ignorant poster before who stated we were fielding a full strength side for a pre season match (when its so bloody obvious we weren't)

Also I was at the game and Im pretty sure we were all cheering when Williams got the goal because we thought it was a Super Goal (which would have won the match). But the rules seem to be that if you mark inside 50 it doesn't count! Don't know if Williams was aware of that or not.

Edit: Macbeth speaks the truth, Pears, Hill, Watson and Fletch are in our best 5 players.

Good signs for Essendon.

They wanted to qualify. Every side should want to qualify for the next stage of every competition it plays. Good for them.

They played a strong side to try to win. Proper order. People take time to turn up and deserve proper footy.

They celebrated getting through.....good again. Winning or qualifying is a good habit to embrace.

Well done Bombers. The pre season comp would be more enjoyable if everyone followed suit.

Don't know if Williams was aware of that or not.

Well pardon me, but he bloody well should be conversant with that rule. He isnt a 17 yr old. Its not a new rule. He's been in the system long enough.

Stop making excuses for him. He got excited for excitement's sake and to be perfectly honest, whilst looking like a buffoon when doing so, its perfectly ok and a natural reaction to achieving what he did in the context of the game.

It says more about the way his club was treating the first outing under their new coach than it does about anything alse. And thats ok, too!

PS: I hate Essendon and I hope its their last win for 2011!

as the players did i had a good laugh at the celebrations but cmon, some here really dont get why they were having a bit of fun?

& 'full strength side'? really? well we do got problems then - ffs try 'close to a full strength squad' - neither side that ran out was close to full strength

oh & damn you collingwood:mad:, bastards:thumbsdown:....

Oh the irony of St. Kilda players bringing people down for celebrating a NAB Cup win. The only club I've ever seen release a DVD for it's NAB Cup wins.

Knights was a master at beating my team. From the games we played the dons, i can't believe he got sacked because essendon always looked on fire when playing us under him.

He had us figured out to the last nanometer.

But the thread is a massive overreaction. It is February.

Nobody is going to give a shit about these practice games in a couple of months.

Want to make a bet on round 3?

I don't recall saying that we're certainties to beat them in Round 3. The question was when did they last beat us?

But sure I'll take an internet bet on. I'll even bet we'll beat you in Round 13 too.

I'm curious when was the last time North beat St Kilda?

As Willo admitted afterwards, they don't get to celebrate too much.
We've had 3 years of crap. Last night was a completely different Essendon in the way they played. There was defensive pressure and accountability. Haven't seen that in years. Plus the crowd was louder last night than I've heard it for any non-ANZAC Day game since 2004. Things are changing.
