Haha probably. My seats at Subi were over that side near the club admin area. We got some good moments: NicNat’s mark over Sinclair and Blicavs was right in front of me, Jetta (in his Sydney days) through his invisible spear into the block next to us.
Must have all been at night.
Couldn't see much from there at 3 pm without oxy goggles!
We were on the opposite side, 2 rows behind oppo bench. Every time the Pies were over I was glad not to be on the same side of the fence as big Monky

Draper's decision making looked a little suspect to me, particularly in the champs where he was underwhelming

Can't argue with what he's done at SANFL level but
Decision making can improve with age and maturity that being said, I did not think his decision making was that far off, I though some of his decision making issues were more skill based on the part of who he was giving it to as opposed to it directly being him making a poor decision ... but that is just from the limited amount I have seen of him.

He was also coming back from injury in the champs this year and took a while to get going. Was the SA MVP and all Australian as a bottom ager in 2023.

3 and likely 13 plus 2025 picks.

Freo picks 9, 10 and 17 plus 2025.

Who has the better draft capital?
I really hope Warner holds off a year. Would rather use pick 3 this year, and hope beyond hope that we are a couple of spots higher on the ladder next year so only giving away pick ~5 and hawks F1.

FOS - Drafting on potential, rather than proven performance. I get injuries, blah. Whatever.

Reid - **** the highlighted scares the shit out of me.

Jagga Smith - will be gone before our pick.

So you post proves my point. Pick the proven player, who ticks every

I was thinking of a better way to put it as "safe" feels underwhelming. My view is that Draper provides me with the most confidence he will make it as a top line midfielder at the next level. And while he does not get the tic-tac stats of Will Ashcroft do 1-2 with mates, he gets a load of possessions. We do not have a you high possession mid on our list.

My view on Draper is that he is the most balanced of the top end mids. He has it all and while each may not be the best of the 7, I believe he has the least flaws. Being damn good at most things is actually quite elite. I also look at it with Harley in mind. Harley is a burst player and like Dusty, you do not want him at every stoppage expecting a clearance.

If I was to pair up a combination that best works, then it is Harley and Draper, especially if Hewett can get his body right. Harley Draper and Hewett give us a great trio and you can always get a more defensive mid in the mix. This may well be Hutchinson (albeit on a small sample size), Yeo (ask him to be doing less at stoppages), Graham, Peatling, and even Duggan or Ginbey. We are likely to either get another top Mid in 2025 or we trade for Chad or someone similar next year.

Each of the others in the top 7 have ????
  • Smith - too small and short kick
  • FOS - gone missing much of this year and lower possession mid
  • Murphy Reid - more outside leaning and will unlikely like leaving his Bayside mummy
  • Lalor - endurance, soft tissue run and plays the hard nut too much like Harley
  • Langford - speed and athleticism are questionable
  • Smillie - had the man child already reached his ceiling
Given we cannot afford to screw up our R1 picks, we probably should avoid a high risk high reward. Draper feels like a low risk but high reward pick.

(PS - apart from Murphy Reid as a flight risk, there is still a lot to like about the other options)
IMO..Draper and Smillie on par and the rest a notch ahead.

Draper and Smillie have gone missing for parts of the year and Smillie has a higher ceiling

So Petrucca didn’t attend the Dees F&B.

I’m going to wait for someone to now say “where there’s……..”
Petracca is past his prime sitting comfortably on a massive contract.

He seems more interested is life outside of football building his brand kind of like what fyfe did after he signed that huge deal and freo went to shit .

Events , fashion shows and social media .
Not my cup of tea but compared to other sports afl players aren't well off and probably can't retire after football just from earnings .

Built a brand or investments are what modern footballers are encouraged to do .

West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen will look to sign a contract extension of up to six years as fellow Eagles key forward Jake Waterman closes in on a fresh four-year deal.

The Eagles are confident they will lock away both key forwards in coming months, with Waterman set to secure a huge pay rise after his All Australian season.

He is contracted to 2025 as clubs like Geelong and Melbourne express interest, but will add another four years to that contract.

Waterman has been on a modest deal after form and injury concerns, but while his new deal will be heavily incentive based it will give him the capacity to earn up to $1 million a season.

He kicked 50 goals in 23 games this year and while the deal will give him huge earning scope and have a solid base component it also gives the Eagles some safety given he has had only one breakout year.

A deal is imminent given the final incentives and clauses are being brokered between his management and the Eagles.

Waterman finished third in the club’s best and fairest won by Jeremy McGovern on Thursday night.

Allen returned from a serious knee concern in round 15 after being the Eagles leading goalkicker in 2023 and becomes a free agent next season.

Those contract talks are well under way, with discussions continuing on the exact length of the deal.

Fellow key forward Aaron Naughton signed an eight-year extension last October but while he is from the same management firm his deal will not be that long.

Allen turns 26 in March so a six-year deal would take him through to 33 years of age.

Pretty clear from last night that Waterman wants to stay

Allen is no chance of leaving

Great news really. I know we all love to entertain trade hypotheticals around them but if a few things go right there is a real chance they could be the best tall forward combo in the comp in the next few years. Both seem very committed to the cause and they should still be around when we are a threat again.

(Also if they are on long deals either of them would be worth an absolute fortune in the event that things change, Archer really comes on and we do trade one of them)

1:54. Never seen anything like it.

He had so many great moments for us when you think back on it. Adelaide final round, Port elimination final, Collingwood elimination final, composure and that crucial smother in the 2018 GF + about 50 jaw dropping kicks, the kind that make you fall in love with footy all over again.

Yep and Waterman's being incentives based is incredibly good management. Slam dunk of an article.

A question for the draft watchers. Is Moraes just a no go now? His stock has plummeted, but seems like he would provide that outside run and class that we need. Did he fall victim to being pushed out of a stacked Vic metro midfield, and could he be a potential value pick at 23 if he slides? What's the knock on him from a WCE perspective?

Draper can't kick... But other than that is pretty good

Smilie.. I like... bit like a Dave Mundy...
