They’re not that desperate when they can get a Battle type for fee

I see KPDs much like ruckman

A great one is nice to have but you can get away with the Frosts of the world

What has stuffed us is not only the Hawks getting Battoe but also the fact that not having a huge recognised KPD didn’t hurt them at all during the season

Collingwood, WB, Stk and Sydney will all be chasing a flag and in the market for an elite KPD next year. Not to mention we could also use him in the Warner trade and save ourselves some valuable draft capital.

Seems if we hold Barras WCE supporters will have a melt because our rebuild is delayed, however, we trade him the WCE supporters also will have another melt because we arn't getting steak knives (2 F1's).

I'd be fine with F1 + F2 for Barras.
Probably prefer that than F1 + F1 for Barras + F2.
Our F2 probably not much higher than one of the F1's and that way we have 4 picks in first 2 rounds next year instead of 3.

Richmond have been absolutely ELITE in extracting the highest possible value from each one of their departing players. Made it look easy. It's disgusting.

Bolton was not worth that. Baker was not worth that, and Rioli was ABSOLUTELY ****ing not worth that.

However the rest of their initial rebuild plays out from here, who knows, but so far they get a massive tick for accomplishing this. No doubt they'll have a good draft hand next year as well.


Meanwhile we are struggling and doing the total opposite with Barrass.

It didn’t hurt them because they had a good year. Reductive thinking at its best. I think they win even more games with a KPD pillar. Ruckman far less important in the modern game imo

…and Brisbane will be asking for an F3 (at least).

The only chance would be when the Eagles cave and accept F1 and F2 for Barrass alone, but I suspect that’ll be right on the buzzer for dramatic effect.

I wouldn’t mind Barrass missing out if it creates a better environment for clubs to trade players more flexibly rather than have players nominate their one and only preferred option.

Hindsight and all, but given Barrass was mostly looking for money and security, pretty dopey him nominating one club.

Would still prefer the trade goes through to help the rebuild.

Maybe not by the vic media but Paul Connors has already given them a serve reportedly

Good luck to them getting players across if they don’t land Barrass because they tried to short change us on a trade

Their record of attracting big names hasn’t been great. Couldn’t get Smith. Missed McKay last year

Put a lot of work into Barrass to get him to commit but now won’t pay the price

It is clear at this point that despite the Hawthorn/Barrass thing having gone on for 6 months we never got Hawthorn to commit to a trade price for him. That should have hapenned first, not last. Because he is contracted. Not wait till trade week to discuss the trade price with Hawthorn.

If Hawthorn didn't want to put their chips on the table and wanted to sequence it such that they would have until trade week to discuss trade price we should have shut the whole thing down and poured cold water all over it very early on. Told Barrass to find another club and this what we will need in return and they need to pledge it up front. Instead we not only allowed them keep wining and dining Barrass and sweet talking him, we more or less encouraged it and took it as a fait accompli that they would behave the way we would and pay something close to what we wanted when trade week rolled around.

The Barrass fiasco is another stuff up from Pyke and Clarke. Just because you wouldn't act in bad faith and take advantage of other clubs trust don't assume that all other club's will behave the same way towards you.
