Pick 14 next year is the equivalent of pick 30 this year

Anyone suggesting otherwise is just flat out ignoring every other list managers besides ours decision to go all in on this draft at the expense of the following years

Call me a tea leave reader all you like but actions speak louder then words. When only 1 club trades into the 2025 draft ball willingly ie. not force due to bidding on players, we should probably get used to the fact that we are in the wrong

The right move was simple. Ring Barrass, tell him he isnt joining Hawthorn until Hawthorn get a top 18 pick back in the 2024 draft. If they get one Barrass goes, if they dont he stays. Keep it simple, grow some heart and stop playing nice. Put the fans first instead of your own egos for a change. It wasnt hard to do. Only hard if you are weak. Pyle, Clarke and our board are just weak

Our gifts should help Carlton

Here’s something to ponder

The Kelly trade was 14,F1,24,37 with 57 and a F3 (Geelong) coming back

Carlton just gave up 11,F1,F2 (and Owies) to get pick 3

That’s not far short of the farm traded away for Kelly

They need pick 3 to be a pretty good player

I just took a look at the draft order in an attempt to convince myself everything actually worked out okay. Our third pick this year is #73. Cricket season I guess.
You’re right in the sense that 12, 26 and 73 looks pretty awful in a rebuild.

The good news is we have two F2 and F3
Picks which we can bring in when an opportunity arises. Clubs won’t use every pick they hold due to list space and so may look to trade into next year.

Just quickly looking at the draft order I can already see opportunities with the Swans and Giants. I’m sure we will find another pick before 73 if we have the list space to do so.

Pick 73 will also come in as picks are chewed up for academy and f/s bids.

Of course but they know it will be a pretty good player. FOS is only failing if he gets a set of injuries. Id bet 10,000 bucks that unless he suffers from injury he reaches 200+ games at AFL level. Pick 12, im not too sure about :(

Asked ChatGPT to summarise this thread:

In the thread, fans react strongly to the speculation of West Coast trading Pick 3 for Picks 12, 14, and Matt Owies. Many consider this a poor trade for West Coast, with some mocking the idea and calling out "bed wetters" who are panicking about the team's decision-making. The debate revolves around the value of Pick 3 versus multiple lower picks and whether Matt Owies adds enough value to the deal. Reactions are mixed but lean negative regarding the rumored trade.
Can you get it to summarise me? If it doesnt say im not a complete and utter nutjob its broken

Reading a lot of this shit in here makes me want to stab my eyes out and burn them in a glass of acid.

NOBODY GETS THE FIRST 3 PICKS IN A DRAFT FROM A CLUB FOR A 30 YEAR OLD WHO ALMOST RETIRED FROM A FRACTURED SPINE 2 YEARS AGO AND DOESNT WANT TO FLY ACROSS THE NULLABOR EVERY 2 ****ING WEEKS BECAUSE IT HURTS HIS BACK EVERY TIME.

EXCEPT WE DID AND ARE PLANNING ON USING THEM FOR WARNER. SO BARRASS FOR WARNER. IS THAT OK?

PICK 3 BASICALLY GOT US AN EXPERIENCED PREMIERSHIP PLAYER WHO WILL BOLSTER OUR MIDFIELD AND SUPPORT REID AND PICK 12.

We needed experience and got it and a first round draft pick and kept it and future draft picks for a great player we need to replace Yeo in 2 years time.

It's not the best but it helps us to not get flogged every week and hopefully convince reid to stay as he will see some growth and change in our club.

That's the strategy they have gone with and hopefully it works and we move on.

I would prefer this over Simpson remaining and trying to get nic Nat and Shuey back in for 1 last tilt...

Think trading back in is going to cost a bit more than what some are thinking (See what Melbourne paid for pick 9) Still think it's doable, particularly with Richmond who surely aren't using all those picks this year.

Do think we will offer our F1 around tbh

Tb has been with Gov and a few other mates in Port Douglas since Monday. I've been told he was very nervous, and with 15 minutes left had conceded that it was a good chance he was coming back to the Eagles. Was getting calls from McQualter with an hour left to go, telling him he is welcome back etc.

When the trade went through, he and Gov were very emotional, but he knows it is best for him and the Eagles to move on.

Champion of our club, and although I can't wait to death ride the Hawks next year, I will be certainly supporting TB.

Pick 14 and 2026 future 1st will be the equivalent of Chad Warner, most likely.
Leaving us our 1st, probably a top 6 pick who will be an A grade player.
Also leaving us with two 2nd round, and two 3rd round picks for the very talented Bailey Banfield and a couple of talented NGA’s.
How’s the protest going?

No thanks

Liam Baker did it the right way as much as we hate it. TB did it the crap way

He is a champion of the club but im not going to support him next year.

See ya Tom, you didn't want to play for us anymore. Not giving you anymore pats on the back. Surely Simmo gave you enough.

Trading out a 29 year old is smart and we should have been doing it long ago . We have a f1 f2 f3
Along with our own f1 f2 f3 that is damn awsome . Stop whining you whingers .
We have a good first round pick a lower than most 2nd round pick and 3 footballers in that can play Afl . Baker as a B+ and a goal kicker who kicks serious numbers .

Explain further, the right and wrong way?
Baker said he has a preference but happy for Freo to bid. He also said he woulnt leave if Richmond didnt trade him. Dan Houston took the exact same approach. Those two also didnt publically complain about the club, including asking the club to keep promises made by people who were not there anymore and therefore creating a narrative where the club is the bad guy and he isnt

The right way was keeping things quiet and not complaining publically and being open to other finals contending teams in Melbourne. Just like Dan Houston was

His actions were selfish. Dan Houston and Liam Bakers were not. Its kinda that simple in a weird way

Sorry, just happened upon this comment.

Bruhn, Clark and Bowes are all very speculative footballers.
Clark especially.
He's not tall, strong or fast. He's going to need to carve out a career on pure accumulation and tackling pressure.
Still, it’s the foundations of a midfield that won’t be the finished product but you can build around.

Even if you disregard Clark and add Holmes to the equation, the fact is it’s a full starting midfield that cost them 17, 18, 20 and some salary dump space for Bowes.

Bowes is a bit of a spud but he, Bruhn and Holmes almost made a Grand Final with some Dangerfield thrown in the mix. Can’t tell me Dangerfield carried that midfield all year, and even if he did, I would expect Smith to be able to perform at the level Danger did this year.

That’s a very cheap midfield. While we are here scratching our ass wondering whether or not we’re even going to be able to draft a midfielder this year.

Hawks just traded out their entire original 2025 draft hand bar round 4 for a 29 year old fullback with back issues.

And you aren't happy with that?

Really?

Would you trade a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for a 29 year old fullback? I sure as hell wouldn't.

All this "It a crap trade if the Hawks win the flag next year". Lol.

They won't. They simply do not have the midfield nor the finals experience. Sam's nifty little game plan didn't stack up in finals against top opposition. Teams will have noticed and learned how to counter it. They will have a harder draw in 2025 and there is just as much chance of the Hawks dropping or staying the same as there is in improving.

And well, if the Hawks take a step back next year like the Crows did in 2024. Hawks 1st and 2nd rounders could juat make up the majority of the trade capital for Warner.

Are people still going to whinge with that outcome.
I'm not as confident as you about the Hawks sliding.
Even taking into account a tougher draw.

They lost their final by a kick and have added TB and Battle.

I would be surprised if they don't make top 4.
Hopefully not.

I once worked for a company that had all the techniques skills at the top, but poor leadership. There was a change at sole upper levels, good leaders but no where close to the skills required, but guess what? After 12 months business doubled, then doubled again after 24 months

Carlton are assuming they will be pushing top 4 next season. So to them, their F1 is maybe 14. So it's roughly 2x #14 and chicken feed. When you think you've pretty much got your list, chicken feed doesn't matter. It's a good trade for them. The risk is worth it. It's got to be all about a flag for them. Picking some kid up at #38 who probably won't play 30 games, let alone be an premiership jigsaw piece, is a low percentage play.
