I think the recruiting team would have been targets no matter what they did. After taking the highest-regarded forward in Maric (imagine the melts if they didn't), they would only have taken a second pick if they rated a midfielder or defender (imagine the melts if they had taken two forwards, with our ageing injury-prone mids, and an entirely injured backline). On a hiding to nothing.

Nic Nat was never going to pay again this year, it was so obvious. They couldn't afford another player, paying way to much for the older players.
Need to make sure from now on only 1 year contracts for players 30 & older, 2 years after 27 if they not happy about that then they can leave.
Wouldn't be surprised if Nic retires to help the team out with player payments.

You keep forgetting that Nic actually earns WC money.
Probably more than his contract payments.

Buller better be a great FF. We have a good one already. We picked up Maric who looks a far better longer term prospect than Buller. Williams may/will play, Ryan will play, JD has a few years left. We also have other tall options including Jammo.
It dosent seem like Buller is a player we need. We have to play the long game.

We took a tall forward (albeit third tall) in Maric already, grabbing another tall in Buller likely wouldn't have been on the cards

As it stands we've got Allen, Darling Waterman, Maric, Bailey Williams and Jack Williams as tall forward options.

Grabbing Buller on top of that would have been a poor choice given our needs in other areas of the park also.
