What?

Im posting an opinion / theories as you describe it, and often post questions.

Maybe you should stop misinterpreting theories as facts!

My theory is Reid has no great need to blitz the u18 championshios. He knows he's getting drafted and already been clumsy answering questions on moving.

Is that more to your liking?

Your posting a opinion on someone’s thoughts and mindset

Its grubby really and best left for Women’s Day

Does he really need to try?

He knows he will get drafted no matter what.

ATM if he is picked at 1 he's going West which he likely doent rate. So why bust a gut in the u18's like last year showing how good you are?

If he drops away he may think that improves his chance of being drafted to North or Hawks.

Reid has very little incentive to put on the afterburners.

If that's his plan it's not too smart.
He almost certainly still goes pick 1 regardless, all this does is tank his value so that noone is willing to offer enough to entice a trade

If he’s a competitor, he’s absolutely not tanking, he’s going to try and win the Larke Medal. It’s hard enough for professional sportsmen to tank their ability for a few weeks, let alone a 17 year old male. I know a first hand contact of his and the bloke is FIGJAM. He wants the spotlight. I think that’s honestly a good thing when it comes to the type of players you want on your team btw - not a negative. But thinking he will be considering tanking is a bit far fetched.

I absolutely don't think that's what's happened fwiw, I think he's underdone (as mentioned numerous times by the commentarty) and still kicked 3 goals in the 1st mins and looked very good at the very few stoppages he attended to me

Agreed, we need someone with some serious swagger.
He also showed some aggression today which is something else we need badly.

Yep, I hope it's just that he's a bit rusty after not playing for a bit.
Admit I like players that always give maximum effort, no matter the situation...and want to be their best.
Not saying Reid isn't doing that..if he is it may just be a lack of maturity/ego rather than attempting to manipulate the draft.
Be hard to get the ego in check with the hype he's getting

This is the wildest thing ive ever read

He is a mid forward who finds it easier behind the ball

In that same realm. Im a member of Greenpeace. My favorite past time is harpooning whales and hunting elephants

It's simply harder to find the ball forward of centre, especially if the workrate isn't there to make yourself available.

People are talking about his versatility in this very thread today. He's played forward, back and midfield, similarly the commentators are blowing smoke up his arse as Carlton's best v Brisbane.

Reid collected 21 disposals in that game, he played three quarters across the half backline. The problem was he had no impact and didn't do much with the ball v brisbane because he's not that player.

Yep, posted before getting your post.

How confident are you that he doesn't get picked up in the top 40 ?
More confident now that he missed the first championship game.
And if he plays in the other championship games they probably wont play him in attack
more likely in the ruck as chop out for Edwards.
His best position is key forward

His first goal was an over the back, where he was standing alone in the goal square with no one within 20 metres of him.

His second was a free kick given right next to the point post. He kicked it pretty low around the corner.

His third was snatching the ball from a contest in the goal square and snapping fast.

None were impressive.

He copped a head high tackle 40 out, pretty much in front. Kicked from about 45 out, and the ball fell short and to the right.

He took a mark just left of centre, 45 out. Kicked from right on 50, giving it everything he had, and again the ball fell short and to the right.

I would not be highlighting his goals or goal kicking as an example of him being a top talent, from todays game.

Yeah, nothing worse than continually being in the wrong place for a fwd.

Collard unless he blows up the champs will last past 40.

I was hoping that with Livingstone being sore and not making the first champs game he would be a bit out of sight and out of mind and not be taken before 40 as there was talk not only that he might not make the champs but might be needing a 4-5 week break from footy. If he keeps having games like today that won't happen. Do note however he was playing on an absolute nobody and with peel's best players not playing this week after the champs game this game could well be an outlier.

If we can land Livingstone he is exactly what we need, the dockers may not be willing to give up their early second round pick for him as they are mildly delusional and seem to think Treacy can be a star. Livingstone's greatest attributes are his aggression at the ball and the man. He likes it rough and is a real pack breaker. He's not a superstar athletically but he's good enough particularly as a FF with Oscar Allen playing CHF (TBH it's his best position and where I see him moving to particularly once Darling is done)

I have talked up Livingstone a lot, mainly because being outside of the AFL system now and living down south I'm not getting to anywhere nearly as many games and mostly am only making it up to Mandurah for Peel games or to Lathlain for Perth games whilst touching base with a few people at the club. Livingstone will potentially slide as he doesn't have 1 of those genuine potential superstar qualities.

Lastly from what I've heard we are out of the running for Sam Taylor and he will likely sign on with GWS but the club is putting very serious offers and work into both English and Naughton through FA.

For this reason I don't think we'll be drafting a lot of talls in the next couple of years if they genuinely think they can pull it off.

Duane Massey is the head of recruiting however the structure of the recruiting department has changed significantly. ROB and one other are heavily involved in the eastern states and the head of WA recruiting role I was talked to about has been filled. I don't have a name for people yet.

I expect a big shake up off field this year with Gavin Bell almost certain to go, development coaches in particular to be changed and the club is looking to spend a large amount of money replacing Warren Kofoed, even if it means going over the soft cap limit for a year to fill that role. 1-2 Assistant coaches may change if Simpson stays otherwise expect a clean slate if with everyone's job on the line if he goes.

Gavin Bell is such a good operator would hate to lose him but I know multiple other clubs have offered him roles on better money and he stayed.
Sam Mitchell has offered him a job every year since he has been at Hawthorn
But I also understand Gavin Bell has been pushing for more change as footy manager, but as been over ridden by our CEO

I'll grant you the first 2, but the 3rd goal was impressive.

You’re about the first person I recall posting something positive about Gavin Bell

Nice to see someone going into bat for him

Interesting to hear this. Most just assume he’s bad because we’ve been terrible since he took over from Vozzo.

Doesn't surprise me, Nisbett really does need to move on.

That said RE, our player development has been pretty poor the last half dozen years or so and hasn't Bell been responsible for overseeing that function ?

Hasn't it been confirmed he's going at the end of next year?

Rumoured and inferred only, as it has been many times before.

Hard man to kill off from the position of CEO.
