I know O'brien has stepped into a lesser position however can't give many more details. (one because i don't know just how much of a step down it was and two because it wouldn't be professional, even with my angry old man outbursts)

A position matching his role in the east was internally offered to some people here in WA. I was asked about it and asked for more details and once given those details I said a polite, no I don't want to be one of the people in the running for the job. When asked it was very west coast and was more like a job offer than a request to come in and put my case forward in an interview.

Like all football clubs though the money for time just wouldn't have been enough to entice me to do it. That and as I said to Gav, i'm not interested in being a part of the footy club as long as Nisbett is leading the charge. He said it wasn't an issue and my outburst at Trev was forgiven but not forgotten and I again politely said i wasn't interested and was moving my investments around and myself overseas. (BTW while he might have got into the club through nepotism, Junior is a very good operator and well respected)

Sometime in the next 12 months maybe Farang83150 and I can share a bucket of San Mig lights on my dollar.
Did Trev march you out the door after your outburst?

Seeing Van Rooyen today made me think we made a blunder with Chesser. I would rather have Van Rooyen based on what i have seen so far. I am not sure what made Chesser a top 15 pick. He looks athletic. But i still can't work out what his 1 Wood is? What is his strength? He doesn't appear to be exceptional (even for a kid) at any of kicking, marking, reading the play, being in the right place, attack at the ball, winning a contest etc.

He's quick and has gears. Nat ball winner, balanced, good in traffic, great decision maker. This is the best 17 year old I've seen in a long time.

I would have still had Daicos ahead of him.

I think the big thing with Reid is he won't be able to play that major midfield role from day one, it'll take a couple of years. I'd have him ahead of Horne-Francis at the same age and a slight touch ahead of Ashcroft but a touch behind Daicos. To me Daicos was and is scarily good. I see him as Pendlebury but with better skills.

Of years gone by as 17 I would have had O'Meara, Coniglio and Cotchin ahead of Reid as well but thats literally what, 4 players in 16 years and whilst very good players Coniglio and Cotchin never quite reached the heights they showed as juniors. Bit hard on Cotchin having to come into such a horrendous shitshow of a side and game plan and he has a Brownlow and 3 premierships to his name. O'Meara through injury lost the gifts that gave him the ability to be as good as WCE Judd.

I would say he has average skills with decision making that still needs work, but so far the real knock is that he looks more of a midsize forward than the projected midfielder. I certainly wouldn't be giving up a pick above 20 for him. (Even then so far I would say pick 20 is generous)
Maybe it's not that our email was forgotten to be sent (NGA).

But we intentionally never sent it.

Good at age 16, supposedly has pace an was a real line-breaker on the outside. In reality he's a better Petch with a little more game sense. I think he can lock a spot down on a wing with his endurance but will be a steady type rather than a highlights reel.

Plenty of players project as stars and then never reached those heights but I can't get over Cogs in that 2010 grand final💫 Never seemed to break out as a genuine superstar though he has been a good player for a long time.

That sounds pretty deflating. I think we were all hoping for something more than that.

Daicos hands down is the best. Reid can be a burst type "match winner" but Daicos produces all game and you'll be 5 goals up instead at crunch time.
Pies are being very smart in the role that Daicos plays very similar in what North are doing with Sheezel.

Reid is a very different player to them.

For what we need at the Eagles I’d take Reid over Daicos but that’s just my opinion.

You have to be willing to run the risk of losing players for money or else you end up overpaying everybody. Which is what we did.
All this talk of offering gov and cripps 2 year contracts makes me feel like nuffies are running our club .

We have won 4 games in 40 and we want to lock ourselves into over 30s on good money ?

Save the cash target some younger free agents for zero draft capital whilst also smashing the draft sound like a much better option

Who said they'll be on 'good' money?

Talk o Gov's contract is that it'll be significantly reduced.

We're already losing Hurn+Shuey this year(most likely), Bazzo's still young and not ready to play KPD and the jury's out on HEdwards.

Simmo's already shown enough intent to play the kids in main roles. A number of bounces had Culley & Ginbey with Kelly as the senior mid in them, for instance.

We still need to nail another 2 drafts before we're on the way to contending again, so if those guys can stay around to mentor the next generation, it's money well spent in my opinion.

Nah we only lose Hurn and Gaff from todays side( Maybe Darling ). That side that played today has another 40 games of experience and some more talent from drafts and trades yet to come by 2025.
Think it looks different to Hawthorn.
Utter nonsense.

Hawks weren't playing lots of kids in 2021 that are yet to come on. Hawthorn traded out of drafts more than West Coast did, thus the need to make up for lost time.

I don’t believe either of you have any idea about what young talent Hawthorn already possesses.

They may not have drafted all of it, but they’ve traded some in on the cheap as well.

They have Day (4th year), Worpel (6th year) and Newcombe (3rd year) in there leading a bunch of first and second year mids.

They’ve got some decent young half backs and forwards. What they currently lack are young KPP’s beyond Mitch Lewis.

In 2025, your midfield is going to be lead by Tim Kelly and a couple of mids entering their 3rd season, plus some first and second year kids.

I honestly don’t see your future midfield doing much better than what the Hawks current midfield is likely to achieve this season.

Where you’re currently ahead is your KPP talent. But your KPP’s really are only as good as the midfield supporting them.

Good thing we'll add Harley Reid to go with our spoon this year.

Understand that the Hawks have some good young talent I just think we are different to them.

Yeah midfield is comparable except we have Kelly but outside of the midfield we have better options in my opinion.

You could be right but I reckon we are bottoming out this year and next and heading slowly back up the ladder. Time will tell. I’d be disappointed if we were still in Wooden spoon contention in 3 years time.

its not the WCE way to be down for so long so I would be staggered to only be at Hawks level in 3 yrs time ..
