100% behind this.
Complete overhaul of the academies and how they work is needed at same time.

Would be good to see each state having a single academy thats backed by AFL but co-operated by all the clubs. Have an 'Academy Draft' reverse ladder order but each club gets one pick only. Rest of academy players move over to the main AFL rookie draft that operates along the points system in place.

Automatic priority pick for anyone finishing with 3 or less wins.

No more father-son.

Hows this for a father son sollution.

Father sons enter an auction where clubs bid points based on the picks they hold. Club with FS access holds call on final bid. They do something like this overseas in some comps.

Basically the entire 18 teams have access if they make the highest bid. Open market and player goes to who is willing to pay the most.

Would make exciting live TV.

Clarified again to me today that a lot would have to change for North not to take McKercher.

They’re not worried about prospect of him leaving for the new Tasmania side in a few years? Or they think there’s a decent chance they’ll be merged with the new Tasmania side anyway?

No further comment.

Twomey just reiterated on Gettable a fair price for Barrass would be Sydney's first and second rounder. He also said he's thinks it will happen and potentially shape the trade period.
I'd forgo those and try get McDonald home to WA

Those with better draft knowledge then me, I've seen the below comparison from foxsports and others of Daniel Curtain to Marcus Bontempelli.
Given he has only recently gone into the middle, and there is a bit to play out for the rest of the year, is there similarities to the Bont in his midfield craft, or is this hyperbole, and he will be a backman for his career?

"A 195cm prospect from Claremont, there was a bit of Marcus Bontempelli about Curtin as he calmly stepped through traffic and wheeled onto his left boot from stoppage during Sunday’s game."

Curtain - 195kg & 93kg
Bontempelli- 191 & 83kg (now listed at 194 & 96kg)

Unlike The Bont, Curtin can actually kick.

Reports from Sam McClure are that McKercher doesnt want to move to Victoria because he wants to be closer to his family who have recently relocated to Perth to support his mothers new career as a Hungry Jacks franchisee owner

Why tho, he hasn't done much
Still 21. Is the exact age JK came over from Carlton where he also had done nothing. It's a sign.

Melbourne specifically really want Reid so this board should not be shocked if Dees 1st and F1 along with Freo first is offered to the Eagles for pick 1 with perhaps a second rounder going back to them whether this years or next.

Eagles certainly looking locally with Curtin and Hardeman high up on the lists.
The worse Freo go the better their R1 pick held by Melbourne looks. It could be used for Curtin, hence the more I warm to a Melbourne bid.

If it was 4, and a couple of picks around 16/17 (one this and one next year), I would do it. In terms of a second going back, Port's R2 is a possible. Not our second currently at 19 as it would only be a 2 to 3 pick upgrade.

I would be less interested if Norf get a compensation or priority pick after pick 2

Ignoring academy prospects, it is looking now like : -
Harley at 1
Norf will be hard to let McKercher go at 2
I cannot see Hawks going Curtin at 3 - more likely they go Watson or Caddy
That leaves Curtin at 4 or if he is gone, Watson or Duursma. Not interested in Caddy as our first pick.

Still a couple of months to go and who knows, we might still be seeing an Clayton Oliver type come from nowhere

He'll be a gun. He's just waiting for Buddy to * off.
Wrong, if he is a gun then he would have already be thriving while getting the second defender. Amiss who plays a similar style of game has kicked 31 goals compared to 22 and is a year younger and in a bottom 6 side.
I think he's just projecting to be a solid FF who will get his 2 goals a week consistently (45-50 yearly) but not be a dominant yearly contender for the coleman.

What were your thoughts of JK after his third season?
