Some of your posters saying pick 3
Not a single poster has said Ryan is worth pick 3. If they had you could go and find it, but they haven't.

Some suggested he could be worked into a pick upgrade to net Hawks' pick 3, but that is not the same, as I'm sure you're intelligent enough to realise - as 99% of people are

That supports our argument not yours.
I retract my previous post about you understanding the difference between him being worth pick 3 and him being worked into a pick upgrade to get pick 3

You don’t get to make those calls. To be honest I don’t think he leaves you guys but if he does I can promise you that you’ll be extremely disappointed in what you get back. Bookmark this for future reference

Why would we let a contracted player leave if we're going to be disappointed in what we receive in return?

Looks to be a gun in the making. He can pluck serious contested marks. Won a game off his own boot earlier in the year.
Put any 2nd year forward in our team at the moment and he flounders. Oscar Allen sure would have

Whilst he is very good in the air and above his head, at 193cm, Van Rooyen is never going to be big enough to be full forward against the generation of fullbacks that are coming through.

Also is benefitting from being in a strong top 4 side that gets the ball forward often (Demons are averaging 35% more inside 50s than West Coast this year) and accurately.

Van Rooyen is comparable to Maric - same height, slightly heavier, one year older.

Since it’s been suggested that we might trade Barrass and Ryan, it’s worthwhile considering what the Eagles have been prepared to pay for proven players when they’re in the flag window. And it’s worth bearing in mind these trades occurred when the draft wasn’t as compromised as it is now, so the draft picks carried more weight.

Tyson Stenglein: WCE gave up 12 and 28 for Stenglein (turning age 25)
Daniel Chick: WCE gave up pick 8 for Chick (turning age 27)
Sharrod Wellingham: WCE gave up pick 17 for Wellingham (turning age 25)

I’d suggest that Barrass and Ryan are better players than all 3 of these were at the time of their trades. But age and fitness is always a factor to consider.

I could’ve mentioned the Kelly trade too but that’s been discussed at length.

If the rumours are true that Hawks are offering 3 for King, then that’s not in play when it comes to Ryan. A future second is likely what’s in play. Not sure what else will be involved but I’d imagine there’s more around that.

As for Barrass and his worth, there’s a very strong argument that Sydney’s first (probably about 10) is unders considering Barrass’s standing in our team and the length of his remaining contract. There aren’t a great deal of trade deals involving key defenders to compare this situation to either. I think I’d spew at the thought of our defence without him but I’m not opposed to an aggressive rebuild so hopefully we can pry more than Sydney’s compromised first round pick this year

Liam Ryan, Tyler Brockman and their respective partners and kids had a catch up today going off Flyin’s Insta stories.

👀

Ryan’s been in Melbourne for ages and mentally checked out of the Eagles months ago. Probably when Willie legged it.

Some great highlights from him at his best…but I reckon he’s on his way.

**** right?

Burn it all down. The 2018 team proved to have a soft underbelly and isn’t taking us anywhere fast.

The 22-28 middle age range is easily the weakest part of our list. To trade out two of our best in Barrass and Ryan would weaken it even further.
We’d have Cripps and then a bunch of kids as small forwards with not much in the middle.
So We’re not going to do it unless it’s massive overs.
Thinks he’s worth a pick in the mid to late teens which would then get pushed out a bit. So would need a third team involved to even begin negotiations.

Get yo head out you ass, ryan aint aorth pick 3.

If we could trade him for a pick under 20 that would be a steal.

Come on people we all can see what going on.

Brockman hasnt re-signed and is highly rated at Hawthorn. Running around in number 33 with some similar moves to the last guy certainly helps.

Mentioned we have put a big offer to him.

Now Hawks have actively approached an in contract Liam Ryan.

That isnt a coincidence.

Hawks will want a direct swap.

I could live with Ryan, and 55

For Brockman and 32.

Hawks will lose 32 to a father son bid anyway and we provide points back.

No doubt they will pick up some later picks to play with from other trades. Same with us to balance things further if needed.

Maybe flyin is just getting cushy with Brockman to get him to come over to us? Not flyin going to hawks.

Maybe the Hawks have launched an aggressive bid for Ryan to help retain Brockman.

And lets be brutally honest. That club should be moving heaven and earth to rebuild an indigenous playing group with whatever family support they need. The clubs reputation in this space is in tatters and they will want to address that.

Add 2026 to GC's top end academy crop.

Day, Swallow and Casboult are cooked. They can't run anymore. They're covered because GC have a lot of kids around them to run and defend, but defending at AFL level requires 18 players these days, and oppo teams play through those 3 guys to expose GC. Witts is almost done as well.

GC only have two quality, mature players in Miller and Collins. They really need another 4 to 6 mature age players, 26 to 28, of that quality, to be genuinely competitive. They're so close to losing King, and watching the cycle start again.
Not just king

Young men don't have back injuries, TB has had back issues for years, thus must be treated like a 32 year old.

Asking a future first for a guy who's broken down is laughable.
Young men have back injuries all the time.....particularly at the elite level in sport.

The list of AFL players who have had stress fractures and disc surgeries is endless. It's really quite common.

He is not broke.

Most sensible take yet.

If you’re in the mood for a laugh go check out the Hawks trading board.

They legitimately think pick 1 AND Liam Ryan for their pick 3, DGB and Brockman is a fair trade. What a bunch of delusional twits! LMAO

Pick 1. They shouldn’t be getting anywhere near that for starts unless they can get another top 5 pick from somewhere.

DGB has absolutely zero value. Maybe a future 3rd.

Brockman is uncontracted and we can offer them Ports second or escort him to the PSD.

If Ryan wants to be traded they can package up Brockman and their 2nd rounder for him.

WC In: Brockman, DGB, pick 32 (currently). Out: Ryan, F3

and that’s being generous

They are a delusional bunch for sure.

Would not be surprised if Brockman stays if Ryan moves.
