From The Age

Eagle hitch

Out-of-contract West Coast forward Jake Waterman could become a trade target as negotiations on a new deal continue to drag.

The son of club premiership player Chris is still more likely to remain an Eagle, but would consider playing elsewhere if an appealing offer arises, a source familiar with his intentions told Money Talks on the condition of anonymity.

Waterman, 25, hopes to score a fresh contract of between three and four years after making a strong start to this season before ulcerative colitis – an inflammatory bowel disease – prematurely ended his campaign.

There was tension between Waterman’s father and West Coast over the Eagles’ perceived lack of communication when his son was treated in hospital.
Waterman wants a 3-4 year deal ?

Who does he think he is fraiser mcinnis

Why would we trade darling ?

Behind darling we have 2 teenagers in Jwilliams and maric .

Darling seemed like he had a down year, father time is catching up with him but he was also sacrificing his own game and was used as a foil to give Oscar a clean run at it .
Maric will get a good run at it next season and combine with Oscar to overtake what Jack has been dishing out. Footy is a young mans game.
And if we manage to bring in a Ruckman and B Williams moves fwd then there is JD done.
Then you have J Williams as well who has CHF qualities. [Waterman goes too] he will have 3 new tall fwds ahead of him [Maric, J & B Williams]
Seriously they have been giving hints. Simpson said B Williams to CHF/Ruck.
Just like Sheed<>Brodie swap maybe picks included. The hints are there.

Darling, Sheed, Gaff & Yeo because his lack of game time are not helping any of the kids being there. They are not Pendlebury, Sidebottom's, Dangerfield, Selwoods, Cousins, Judd & Kerr's.

Yeo is the only one, but he is in a such fight with his own body to be able to help the young fellas. He cant even get into the middle anymore.

We have to start again. It is simple. We will be just fine. Hawthorn style clean out never hurt anyone. Watch them rise the ladder. Have good coaches around the young fellas and whooshka' a bit of the ol mate and they rise to the occasion.

as good as it may sound to simply trade out/delist everyone who won't be playing in the next flag, you can't just have a club full of kids. they need older heads to learn how to be professional footballers under, like serving an apprenticeship. otherwise you end up with a perma-basketcase club with all the talent in the world like gold coast, who are yet to play a single final over a decade.
there needs to be a balance. i lean towards the cleanout naturally taking care of itself over the next few years without needing to hit the 'flush' button. the value most of those guys have around the club would surpass any trade return anyway which would be next to nil.
Y Hawthorn did it, so can we. Next 2 to 3 yrs we get stuck into Free Agents & find a Tim Kelly or 2 Mid Agers in the State comps ready to take the Comp by Storm. Think outside the box.

Do we all need reminding of how Hawthorn & Geelong the champion clubs operate? This WCE club could be winning FLAGS like them too if it took a leaf out of their books. Stop holding onto deadwood and half dead players 3 to 5 yrs too long. Half a decade goes by doing such stupid shit.

People on here are so limiting. Over cooking their players like Sheed doing the heavy lifting, holding Masten to 200 games, Waterman & co. They seriously like Mediocrity. Some people on here need to spend some time with David Goggins i think. Come back once you have got some winning I can do anything attitude. "Lift the Boats & The Logs."

We've won the same amount of flags and made the same number of Grand Finals as Hawthorn and Geelong since the inception of the AFL.

Edit: since someone cares - we've won the same amount of flags as Hawthorn and Geelong since 1992.

Shane McAdam has walked out of Adelaide, wants a trade to Melbourne or a Melbourne based club (not sure which, the article was a bit ambiguous).

I only mention it because he has a WA background and someone brought him up as a potential trade target, I don’t think he fits our age profile.

Eagles have been very successful but Geelong have made more grand finals (9) and hawthorn have had more premierships (5) since the inception of the AFL.

We've done it with four distinct teams. (Edit: 3 distinct teams not 4)

Hawthorn won their flags with two distinct teams, Geelong with one and a half distinct teams.

Hawthorn haven't won a final since 2015...

I'd back our history over there's any day

Sheed for Brodie?
Articles mentioning Sheed to Freo
Articles mentioning Brodie to Eagles
Like for Like. Brodie has more speed and is younger.
If Brodie isn’t getting games because of his defensive spread they definitely won’t play Sheed.

I can't imagine the lions playing hard ball with dev. Theyve got an embarrassment of riches with these father sons recently and genuinely cant fit dev into the team unless its in a position where he'll basically be ineffectual. I wouldve thought a late pick to bank a few more points would suit them

Interesting interview on sen today with the lions Danny daily. Talking about the players in the mix, the youth and experience specific to inside bulls and run and carry. Didn't mention Dev once.

LOL when was he ever up for delisting...

Good to see McGovern and Bailey Williams “survived the list cull” a few weeks back.

It’s just struck me that this was a forced pun on “Cull/Culley”.

Just a bit of fun, as Tosh Greenslade’s character would say.

Surprised we aren’t giving him two years

Also a one year deal indicates we’re unlikely to be promoting him to the main list

Perhaps there’s some triggers in there for an extra year and promotion to the main list in 2025

I wouldn't. They win flags in lumps and also in those era's they may of lost GF's. Geelong & Hawthorn are the most successful since the inception of the AFL. Even go back the previous decade. They know what they are doing better than any others. Sustained success comes down to Draft & trading. Knowing when to trade players out for sustained premiership tilts.
92 & 94 was our best.

Hawks dont mind a drop off, because they know build a dynasty every time.

So off by a couple. Still same number of flags as Geelong and only one behind Hawthorn (1991 being the remnant of a gifted real dynasty side)

But anyway, claiming we are not a champion club is bizarre.

If you’re not second, you’re last.

Not sure which of Geelong and Hawthorn are second, but whichever is is also last.

Might just be due to list spots. Perhaps we aren't culling as many as people would think.

Might be a few 1 year deals to spread out the de-listings for next eyar.

Hawks almost merged with Melbourne in the 90s, just a few years after winning a flag.

Biggest bandwagoners in the AFL.

If you were born before 1990, you'd know this.

Am surprised too but maybe this is the step in the right direction. We dont know how he recovers from his knee. He may do his other knee, praying not, but this is smart. Culley has the makings to be Bontempelli like.

This leads to me to believe a broom is about to sweep through the list Hawthorn style. Hoping Simmo has watched S Mitchell do it over the last 2 seasons and looks to be on the move upwards now.

Oh Saints, Nth, Dogs, Essendon, Melbourne, Hawks etc have all been nearly merged over those yrs too. No point has been made here. Old interviews throughout those 90s have spilt the beans on the "Nearly Merged Clubs in Victoria"

Almost all the Victorian clubs except Carlton & Collingwood lol.
