You wont know the answer to that for 5 years really.
I'm content with the theory that Harley Reid is the one you do not sell for - maybe Adelaide / JHF levels.

However our list still needs a good overhaul. If we can get a favourable deal as we did last year then terrific.

Pick 2 - what would I expect?

Interested bidder who have decent currency

1. Gold Coast might be interested in getting a pick in before Walters so might want to trade up. Their offer could be something like pick 5 plus pick 24 for pick 2 plus pick 58. That is logical to me but whenever have Gold Coast been logical. It has some appeal but far to early to know whether I would take it.

2. GWS have a love of rising up the board each year. What I would like would be their 2 x R1 picks which I think will end up being something like 4 and 8. We would probably need to give them something back and 'd start with Port's R2 and expect they want our R2. I would seriously look at 2 and Port's R2 but would be less interested in 2 and our R2. This is the most likely trade partner I can see.

3. Melbourne have shown a desire to trade up but they rarely do it and I suspect that is because they do not offer a high enough premium. Question is what would I want for 2 apart from picks 9 and 18? The answer is a lot. I would look at picks 2 and Port's second (say 29/30) for 9, 18 and their future first.

4. Doggies are the other team with their own and Brisbane's R1. They are well stocked on talls so they would probably only come a calling with both there picks if there is a perfect fit for them. I would say they might love a Watson and WTF knows now where he will play out come November this year. Something like a late single digit and a mid to late teens is what I expect they will be holding and that would not be enough for me.

The season is way too early to know the sweet spots in the first round are so I am not saying yes or no to any of the above options. As Briztoon posted, Melbourne would be very happy picking up an Rooyen's younger brother but where in the draft! Sam van Rooyen is starting to put some impressive form in with Claremont and the side are now playing Sam as CHF and Curtin as CHB so it will be a watch this space. I did not have Sam this high last year but so far he has kicked and 3, 2 and 5 goals plus decent possession and tackle numbers so he is a possible riser. He is 193 cm and it will depend on how tall he gets. He may be too similar in size to his brother for Melbourne.
I'd go with GWS , 2 and PA 2nd would be brilliant for 4 & 8 👍
Would be PO if we took GC 5 & 24 👎

You really like your mops hey?
Is it like a ride on mower?
I prefer cats to mops TBH but if I changed my name to Cat after 15 years people might be confused.
Exactly like a ride on mower.

Anyone else think Darling is cooked or at least coming to the end? obviously he's keeping his spot due to the circumstances we find ourselves in but he's kicked 7.8 in 5 games. Normally alarm bells would be ringing.

Fighting back from an ankle injury picked up a week before round 1, played 6 straight.

Still competing and bring the ball to ground.

Obviously not 100% but having a crack.

WC were heavily linked to Jefferson and Busslinger last year, and opted for mids, so they'll be looking to get the spine sorted this year imo.

Curtin, Caddy, AReid, O'Sullivan and Patton all possibilities. Haven't seen van Rooyen yet.
B Barrass
HB Basso
R. B Williams
HF Allen
FF J Williams

+ waterman + Barnett + H Edwards is a start

Picking up another key back after pick 30 and then target logan McDonald .

I think we are in need of a quick HBF , elite small forward , elite outside running mid and blue chip match winner balanced mid

Split 2 and a F2nd with GWS for 4 and 8.

4 would get one of Curtin, Moir or Watson
8 Tholstrop

If there Id go Moir and Tholstrop.

Burgiel could be that pacy half back.

Nick Watson star small forward Zane duurssma super talented forward and mid Daniel curtain super tall that can play chb and chf Nate caddy another talented forward Aston Moir talented forward who can kick like a natural with both feet will Lorenz great midfielder great grand son on hawthorn great graham Arthur koltyn tholstop great forward midfielder but obviously Harley Reide is the man I wouldn’t be too concerned if the Hawks didn’t get him I think it would make me much more happy if North didn’t get him because they are definitely tanking hard and have been for years where in West Coast and Hawthorn are just doing a genuine rebuild not just trying to rig the system like north are in my opinion No matter what happens I’ll be happy either way because I know we will get a good player either way both of us

Curtin falling fast in recruiting circles. Will need to show a lot more and quickly to retain a place in the top 20 let alone the top 5.

Already 18, 196cm and 91kg's. A man against boys a lot of the time. His reading of the play from defence has been amazing, particularly last year but Van Rooyen, Clay Hall, Hardeman are the WA players I would say have significantly improved their stocks, Tholstrup has stayed around the same mark, Edwards and Curtin falling significantly.

Briztoon is right, outside of Reid there doesn't seem to be a top tier inside mid in the draft class at this stage. Clay Hall is now potentially top of the list of contenders. But a lot of the mid types will come on as the year goes on. There are a hell of a lot of talented talls, rucks, ruck-forwards, medium forwards, half forwards and more outside leaning balanced mids as well as some pretty good looking medium/small defenders and some great small forward options but they do seem on the really small side.

Right now it looks like pick 1, then 20+ who could go from pick 2 to 10, then depending on club needs I would suggest another 40+ afl quality talents. I can see 80 players being taken in the main draft this year. Last year after pick 30 it was a real lottery and even then all players post pick 20 all had at least 1 major weakness.

What we are wanting to see as the year goes on is players surge into that elite category. Hall doesn't turn 18 for another month and just racked up 27 disposals, 5 tackles and a goal in WAFL seniors. 190cm and is rock solid.

Uh, sorry? We have a former AFL club affiliated scout on this board posting regularly as well as three very talented amateurs - if that doesn't give you at least a wide lens snapshot of the depth, then nothing does.

I'm sure they'll correct me if I'm misreading the tea leaves, but the first and second rounds here are very good with a lower depth pool below that.

There's time for it to change yet, but right now it's a decent shout

The worrying part is none of them liked Ginbey at our pick ..

Pick 2 is worth more than the Suns 5 plus 24. Much more this year,

We are talking about Dursma, Moir, Watson or Curtin level of talent.

Giants will pick up another 1st somehow. May be pick 5 with Himmelburg to Swans as a fa. Hold 4, 5 and 8.

Id do pick 2 and 20 for 4 and 8. We can always trade back into the 2nd round if we needed to. Or offer our F2nd which may interest them. Our F2nd would be nice as we'd retain this years 2nd.

Hit the draft with 4, 8, 20, 35, 39, 51 and 58.
Good old Obeanie - we are having a discussion at 30,000 feet and it’s 6 months before the draft and he wants to argue decimal points. Must be something about the heat and humidity in Darwin.

I got the feeling Sam Mitchell was acting frustrated in the coaches box just for a effect he knew the cameras were on him he was happy we lost in my opinion I could be wrong but playing Grant Birchall as a sub as one of our best players very suss and you’re right about sis Forward when the game was on the line very suss

Part of the problem with the tanking situation is they encourage teams to lose and get the number one pick if they done the lottery system for the last few teams on the ladder it would be less incentive to lose and it would be more even bottom for few
