If WC get the 2nd pick, what would people here realistically want/expect back if we aim to split it?
Pick 2 - what would I expect?

Interested bidder who have decent currency

1. Gold Coast might be interested in getting a pick in before Walters so might want to trade up. Their offer could be something like pick 5 plus pick 24 for pick 2 plus pick 58. That is logical to me but whenever have Gold Coast been logical. It has some appeal but far to early to know whether I would take it.

2. GWS have a love of rising up the board each year. What I would like would be their 2 x R1 picks which I think will end up being something like 4 and 8. We would probably need to give them something back and 'd start with Port's R2 and expect they want our R2. I would seriously look at 2 and Port's R2 but would be less interested in 2 and our R2. This is the most likely trade partner I can see.

3. Melbourne have shown a desire to trade up but they rarely do it and I suspect that is because they do not offer a high enough premium. Question is what would I want for 2 apart from picks 9 and 18? The answer is a lot. I would look at picks 2 and Port's second (say 29/30) for 9, 18 and their future first.

4. Doggies are the other team with their own and Brisbane's R1. They are well stocked on talls so they would probably only come a calling with both there picks if there is a perfect fit for them. I would say they might love a Watson and WTF knows now where he will play out come November this year. Something like a late single digit and a mid to late teens is what I expect they will be holding and that would not be enough for me.

The season is way too early to know the sweet spots in the first round are so I am not saying yes or no to any of the above options. As Briztoon posted, Melbourne would be very happy picking up an Rooyen's younger brother but where in the draft! Sam van Rooyen is starting to put some impressive form in with Claremont and the side are now playing Sam as CHF and Curtin as CHB so it will be a watch this space. I did not have Sam this high last year but so far he has kicked and 3, 2 and 5 goals plus decent possession and tackle numbers so he is a possible riser. He is 193 cm and it will depend on how tall he gets. He may be too similar in size to his brother for Melbourne.

* sakes, Hawks blow another game, can’t sit through this s**t season to on top of that miss out on Reid lmao
Get the expectation of Reid out of your mind, without the injury list being as long as my arm we win more games - we would've been a chance against Freo, possibly against Port, we possibly beat GC, Freo and Hawthorn (albeit in Tasmania).

If it happens, so be it. Culturally we don't want it though

Yeah, don't think we'll finish low enough for Reid.
Depending who's available with our first pick I'd be ok splitting it (assuming we get offers like last year) and going a ball winning mid and a tall forward

I don’t see our player payments as much of a problem. Forking out in what is the final year or 2 of some of the veterans contracts and not affording to bring anyone in now effectively forces us to hit the draft and as the big dollar players drop off the list we’ll be ready to pull the trigger on a free agent or 2.

The only players on the list with a big payday on the horizon are Allen and Ryan.

We’ll be able to afford a big fish or 2 when we need them and with the flexibility of front loading deals we could wipe off large parts of big contracts in time for the Ginbeys, Culley’s and Hewetts of the world to get paid.

I like the fact that they accept they don't understand the Perth dynamic, but no one in their right mind is paying is anything for Nic Naitanui in this state.

I also don't believe you could offer Liam Ryan any money to leave. The cultural factor is huge, and maybe that was ignorance or just not wanting to start discussing a slippery slope they don't fully understand or feel able to discuss, but it just isn't feasible.

Anyone else think Darling is cooked or at least coming to the end? obviously he's keeping his spot due to the circumstances we find ourselves in but he's kicked 7.8 in 5 games. Normally alarm bells would be ringing.
No. He had a bloody fractured ankle less than 2 months out from the start of season. The fact he can even play is amazing. Then he hurt his back in the Freo game.

Yet he's still leading and clearing space for Allen and Waterman and has kicked at least one goal in all but one game. He is a prime example of why you keep vets around and don't trade them cheap, as he is copping the heat to let the younger KPF step up to the top level of performance.

At this rate, I'd be very happy for him to stay for another 2-4 years if he keeps this output.

Beyond Harley Reid we have absolutely no idea what the rankings and depth of this draft is like. At this stage it’s impossible to say if splitting our first pick is a good idea.

With a name like Harley he has to be a spud.

Uh, sorry? We have a former AFL club affiliated scout on this board posting regularly as well as three very talented amateurs - if that doesn't give you at least a wide lens snapshot of the depth, then nothing does.

I'm sure they'll correct me if I'm misreading the tea leaves, but the first and second rounds here are very good with a lower depth pool below that.

There's time for it to change yet, but right now it's a decent shout

Which is why I said depending on who's available, obviously you'd be stupid to split the pick if there's an amazing talent available with our pick

There hasn’t been a single U18 champs game played yet. At this stage last year no one would’ve had Ginbey in the first round, which ended up being a major reason for us sliding.

I think if we have pick 2 you’d definitely be wanting gws 2 first rounders, but Melbourne could be interesting aswell if there’s someone they really want if we could get there first rounders aswell as asking about Kosi (WA connections) or rivers, van rooyan young west Aussies we’d probably be sending another pick back aswell depending on the player

Last qtr against Port we desperately tackled to force a pint to port / it was Jack. Massive sacrificial work rate to cover others.

Possibly the deepest draft we've seen in a long time. Possibly the weakest/shallowest position is inside mids, but expect we'll see more come to the fore as the season goes on.

Long way to go in terms of rankings, and club needs often influence this.

Pick 2 is worth more than the Suns 5 plus 24. Much more this year,

We are talking about Dursma, Moir, Watson or Curtin level of talent.

Giants will pick up another 1st somehow. May be pick 5 with Himmelburg to Swans as a fa. Hold 4, 5 and 8.

Id do pick 2 and 20 for 4 and 8. We can always trade back into the 2nd round if we needed to. Or offer our F2nd which may interest them. Our F2nd would be nice as we'd retain this years 2nd.

Hit the draft with 4, 8, 20, 35, 39, 51 and 58.

As well as something i use to clean up my floors 😂
I asked my boss if I can get signed off to use the ride on mop on our bottom floor at work.
He said no.

For context, I do not work in the cleaning space at all. It just looked fun
