Imagine if Reid isn't actually the messiah He's a midfielder in the same way Jake Stringer is a mid, and as a fwd will generate 8 shots but miss 6.

He's basically a poor mans Petracca, so why not trade that for 2 players of equal level that play in a position of dire need for us?

Here was our position by age profile after the 2019 draft - ie 4 years ago. Thankfully we have started addressing it.

Point being - where was the sensible head at the club with the Kelly trade? I do not blame Kelly - it was our own doing.

If I recall correctly, Bond threw it back to me with "we have just had no mids to take at our picks". I called bullcrap and gave him local WA mids that I had identified that went after our picks. Not so much in 2019 and 2020 as we had sold the farm by then with the Kelly trade.

I'm all for taking the best talent but what if there's not a lot in it? It's definitely a consideration we should have but I would want to be on our terms. Im firmly in the take Reid camp as I don't see a way to get #2 + #4 and grab who we want.

Similarly Simpson, he's planning for the short term, so he wants ready made players. A strong list manager should be able to push back on all in trades. But instead we have former player agent Vozzo throwing picks and cash at Kelly with no eye for the future.

Simmo didn't have a lot of options this year, but I do get the feeling he said to the board, "Listen diggeads, we have to turn this list over and play kids. That means we're going to lose, a lot. I could play a team every week that makes me look a little better to save my job, but we both don't want that. Let me play the kids and fast track our way to the next flag. I just need you guys to back me in and withstand the media heat. Because it will get rocky".

I don't care if they sack him tomorrow, but I'm not losing sleep if they don't (yet). We've got a leader in Oscar, a pool of kids in Hewett, Ginbey, Bazzo, BBW, Long, Chesser, Hough, Culley, Maric. We're likely to draft a guy who is more than a reasonable chance of being a superstar. We've got a bit of old school in TK, Barrass, Duggan, Ryan, Cripps, Hunt to transition the kids in, and we've just dump 5 or 6 spuds. Next year we'll draft another 5 or 6 in and offload another 5 or 6 spuds.

Once we offload next year, it's pretty much a new team with youngsters competing for spots. No longer is Foley and Winder on the chopping block, it's them. This should bring out the best in some of them.

The TK trade was fine. We were in the window (well, we should have been) and we gave away loose change (albeit a fair chunk). None of those picks were top 10.

I'm fine with that. On exposed AFL and WAFL form there doesn't seem to be that much between them.

Or he could play in a premiership side due to circumstances and he's backing himself in to play a role going forward.
Keep in mind, most of these players rate themselves. Elite sport mentality is an interesting beast, look at Waterman right now - most of us would put a two year deal in his circumstances reasonable (without knowing the financial details). Given he was even considering a trade it tells you that he and his family don't see it as we do.

Why do you have McKercher as a flight risk but not Reid? Because the Tas team is on the horizon?

He's probably the best spoken draftee of this bunch that I have listened to.
