Did some digging and what makes the North situation even more farcical is since 2007..

North have finished 9th or Lower on the ladder 12 times.
West Coast have finished 9th or Lower 8 times.

West Coast have had one 1 less top 20 pick at the draft than North Melbourne. (16 for them 15 for the Eagles).

Their issue isn't in getting talent in the door it's been talent identification, List Management, Player Development. Etc.
We have made 2 GF's and won one since 2007, they haven't been a relevant club since 2008 when they finished 4th.
They have no argument to be crying poor.

Not disagreeing with anything except we beat them in the 2015 prelim to make the GF so technically they finished 4th that year too

Band 1 compo for McKay, regardless of where the offer sits,
A priority pick somewhere.

Ideally for North they would end up with Pick 1 (Wooden spoon), pick 2 (McKay compo), pick 8 (match Sanders) and pick 17 (Ports pick).
And that's without additional PP compo.

Despite all that, Cox and Nic Nat are all timers. THere's very few ruckman that are at that level so the likeliehood is that we will need to pick up a ruck with gaps in their game.

I don't mind English, if that's the best we can get, but i'd be worried about length of contract and cost, while also conscious we'd need to build a midfield with contested mids who can win their own clearances, rather than relying on service.

The comparison was to highlight the differences in style.
I agree that English is basically Cox from Wish.
 
It's ironic that North's assistance is really the hot topic now that we are yesterdays news with our win last week. What's also ironic is the messaging from the two clubs.

With North, it smacks of the woe is me, we're so terrible so help us (again!), give assistance, assistance, assistance! Some might assess their position from the last four years but I look at the four before that and why premiums such as Gaff, Kelly, Dusty, etc all decided to turn them down even for massive offers. Instead of leveraging on your strengths like the Cats and Swans who are masters at, it always reeked of a club with a small pond mindset trying to lure a big fish. You then compensate this by bringing in spuds such as Polec, Corr, Hall, etc and no wonder you finish bottom 2 for four years in a row.

With Mckay, I would of thought the messaging would have been, we expect to keep him as we have invested 7 years into him and he's going to be a cornerstone to our defence as we charge up the ladder. Not "we'll only keep him unless we get pick 2 (or 3)". Like how is meant to stay now?

Now compared to us... We all know our faults in the past few years but our objectives has always been to WIN or at the very least be better even if its at times delusional and to the detriment to our future (the weekend as an example).

Example 1, no we won't be asking for a priority pick as we're just going through the cycle as if the system intended it to be. Just don't be offended when we bounce back in a few years unlike some of the VIC rabbles that have taken 10 or so years.

Example 2, no we won't be finishing last. Don't ask us how, why or what the chances are but we intend to try and win every game (again as delusional as it may be).

This is just how I interpret things from the outside (and I could be totally off base) but this phase is awfully reminiscent of 2007/8.

Would you prefer them to come out and say "Yes we are accepting offers on Yeo"? because thats not how you get a good price for him.
Id rather Yeo being around playing half the games next year than giving him up for next to nothing. We need to keep some experience on the list anyway with 3 guys retiring
There is every chance Yeo doesnt wanna go anywhere anyway

What do you want the club to say?

Gov was directly asked if he had heard of Curtin. And Curtin could be the heir to Gov's position and could he see himself teaching the kid his role and handing over in a couple more years.

And that tweet was part of Gov's response. He also said people on a higher pay grade made those decisions. Which is funny as Gov would be earning much more than our recruiting team.

AFL trade wrap: Latest news on Zac Fisher, Lewis Young, Tyler Brockman, the No.1 pick and Liam Henry​


AFL: Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson has made his pitch for the club receiving adequate draft compensation if his side lose key defender Ben McKay.
Zac Fisher could sign a deal of up to five seasons at North Melbourne as the Blues prepare to haggle on an upcoming trade.
Fisher has been in slashing form after being recast as a Blues defender in the past three weeks and still has two seasons on his current contract on a good deal of between $400,000-$500,000.
It means the Roos would have to offer him a long-term deal to twist his arm to move given he will be leaving for opportunities but not on-field success.
Carlton is thrilled with its draft picks from this year — Ollie Henry, Lachie Cowman, Jaxon Binns (unlucky to debut despite excellent VFL form) and project tall Harry Lemmey.
So the Blues will be prepared to trade him for a mid-draft pick given Zac Williams will return from an ACL tear and take up that half back position next year.
North Melbourne doesn’t have its own second-round pick but has Adelaide’s second-rounder.
They might offer a third-rounder for Fisher as an ambit claim given their belief is the Blues are happy for him to leave, before the haggling begins.

BLUES NOT INTERESTED IN MOVING YOUNG
CARLTON defender Lewis Young will not be part of the trade merry-go-round despite being pushed down the key position pecking order in a competition where clubs are desperate for shutdown defenders.
Carlton has overlooked him in the past month for Caleb Marchbank and the impressive Brodie Kemp, with the newly re-signed Mitch McGovern to return this week against GWS.
But Young, re-signed this year to 2026, is well aware of the issues he needs to improve in his game and is buckled up for the fight of winning his spot back.
The Blues suddenly have envious defensive depth, even if Lachie Plowman will move on in the final season of a heavily back-ended deal.

BROCKMAN LIKELY TO REQUEST TRADE
HAWTHORN is bracing for Tyler Brockman to request a trade in the next fortnight despite their strong work helping him and his young family acclimatise to Melbourne life.
Brockman has played 15 games this year as an exciting small forward but was dropped last week.
His likely landing spot is West Coast given Fremantle has plenty of medium and small forwards including Sam Switkowski, Michael Frederick, Lachie Schulz and Sam Sturt.
A recent dinner with Eagles forward Liam Henry in Melbourne made him realise how much he was missing playing in a city close to his family.
If the Eagles could secure him at a modest cost their forward line would include Jamie Cripps, Liam Ryan (back after hamstring surgery), young small Noah Long, Oscar Allen and Jack Darling.

HOW WILL INJURY IMPACT WINGARD?
HAWTHORN is moving forward on talks with injured half forward Chad Wingard after excellent results from his Achilles surgery.
Wingard has been deep in talks with the Hawks in the weeks leading up to his torn Achilles, and the club was keen to see how that surgery went.
The next step for the Hawks is ensuring there are no complications with infection or any other delays which could push a nine-month recovery out to a year.
But it is understood the Hawks do still want to contract the popular Wingard so it would take a change of mind for them not to move ahead on a new deal.
That contract might have more incentives or even be a lesser sum but it will give him the chance to extend his career, with Wingard still only 30 at a Hawks club with so many young players.

REID LIKELY NORTH BOUND DESPITE DEES MEETING
MELBOURNE’S hopes of securing Harley Reid have plummeted but the Demons still put in their due diligence this week by meeting the Tongala junior star.
The Roos are likely to have the No.1 overall pick, which means Melbourne will now need to trade with North Melbourne, which seems extremely unlikely.
The strong market for Ben McKay - who is averaging 3.8 intercept marks a game - means the industry is now very confident he will depart on a deal sufficient to hand the Roos the No.2 overall draft pick.
It means the Roos could pick up Reid and then key back Daniel Curtin.
But the Demons still met with Reid and given they have the Fremantle pick (No.5 overall) they could still offer up some kind of package to secure Reid.

HENRY TO MAKE CALL AT SEASON’S END
FREMANTLE’S Liam Henry will make a decision on his future in the days after the round 24 clash against Hawthorn, with every sign pointing to him asking for a trade to a Victorian club.
The Herald Sun revealed in March that Henry was likely Victoria-bound, with the No.9 draft pick putting off all talks with the Dockers and rival clubs until season’s end.

Despite links with the Pies, Collingwood has not made contact about securing him as a wingman.
He has played the best season of his four-year career with 15 games averaging 20 possessions.
But while the Dockers played hard-ball with many of their departing stars last year he is the only real list issue for Fremantle so they would likely agree to a trade.

Looks like we’re getting pick 3 by the sound of that. Everyone “in the industry” has already accepted it as a forgone conclusion. Disappointing result from one of the worst seasons of all time. Could have really set ourselves up with a haul or the best kid in the country
