John Ralph: Dev Robinson more likely stay stay at Brisbane.
DEV Robertson’s strong form in the back half of the season has him more likely to remain with the Lions on a new deal.

Brisbane mid-forward Robertson has interest from West Coast in a year in which he went viral after his scrap with Pies rivals saw him running around shirtless for several minutes.

Robertson is seen as extremely loyal to the Lions and enjoys Brisbane so while he is undecided he is favouring signing a new one or two-year deal.

Brisbane has an array of young midfield talent only set to improve next year when Will Ashcroft’s brother Levi joins the club as a father-son.

But it would be hard to leave perennial contenders Brisbane for the hapless Eagles.
Probably explains Trew potentially sticking around.

I'm fine with that. On exposed AFL and WAFL form there doesn't seem to be that much between them.

Absolutely insane from Robertson though. We won't be interested forever and who else is going to be interested after another two years in seconds.

Ever smiling Ralph sticking the boot in while he can.

Agree on crazy move by Robertson. Perhaps there was a big falling out between Darren Glass and the club.

IIRC you were predicting this scenario 4 or 5 years ago. It’s a pity the club didn’t see it coming.
I do recall having a rant or so back in 2019. I have never been able to refrain from calling out incompetetence

Here was our position by age profile after the 2019 draft - ie 4 years ago. Thankfully we have started addressing it.

Point being - where was the sensible head at the club with the Kelly trade? I do not blame Kelly - it was our own doing.

If I recall correctly, Bond threw it back to me with "we have just had no mids to take at our picks". I called bullcrap and gave him local WA mids that I had identified that went after our picks. Not so much in 2019 and 2020 as we had sold the farm by then with the Kelly trade.

I’m must admit SPS was a pleasant surprise. The kid has talent but lacks the desire to get the most out of himself. Put Maric’s tenacity in SPS and you’d have quite the player.

Watching SPS in person at the dogs game pissed me off. Was a dead set liability on the defensive end and it was all due to lack of effort.

It’s time we start to move on from these type of players even if they have talent and cutting SPS sends a message to the playing group that talent alone will no longer save your butt.

As for 7 off the main list I’m not too worried it signals a pick 1 split. We will probably split pick 19 if the offer is right, trade in a few players and we should look at elevating Maric now rather than later.

Keep a pick for the PSD or MSD next year as well.

SPS was a top 10 pick as well? Very much enforces why to me why we take reid and not entertain any of this '3 in the top 10 bs'

Fairly arrogant list management so far.

Arrogant already our best player

Imagine if Reid isn't actually the messiah 😲 He's a midfielder in the same way Jake Stringer is a mid, and as a fwd will generate 8 shots but miss 6.

He's basically a poor mans Petracca, so why not trade that for 2 players of equal level that play in a position of dire need for us?
1. He may not be the messiah. Absolutely possible. Everyone understands that.
2. He is rated by some as the best 18 year old talent that has ever come through. He's far enough ahead that it would be a stupid risk not to take him because, "he might not end up that good", or "but #1 picks are rarely end up the best player"
3. If he might not be the great player his potential says he might be, then why do you think other players will be? The truth is, we don't know with Harley, and out of a few other top 5 candidates, we have no idea who will end up the best, who will make it, and who won't. "We don't know, so let's not pick him" is a profoundly stupid arguments because we have no better idea with the alternatives. He might end up a poor man's Petracca, but equally McKercher might end up a poor man's Merrit.
4. The alternatives are a CHB, 2 Tasmanian flight risks, a small forward, and couple of could be buds, could be duds in Duursma and Caddy, and three GSA that we can't get our hands on. After that it drops right off.

Highly unlikely. No need to bluff and play games. I'd say we're taking Harley and only an absolute godfather offer, that realistically only North can offer (but won't), will make us think about it.

There is just no way the club is thinking, "right so we have what many people believe the best 18 year old to come through the draft ever, the other options are a CHB, a small forward, some Tasmanians who are a flight risk, a couple of could be anything players, 3 kids who are academy, and then f-all after, when we desperately need high end midfielders, right, let's split".

It's sound like you just want something to talk about and are all for the drama.
So Reid is the best player of all time and all the other players in this draft are crap. What a moronic position.

And the flight risk with Reid doesn't even need to be considered either. Lets just treat it like it is a game of SuperCoach where the players are just icons on a screen with a few lines of code behind the and you just buy and sell them and they go wherever the user and the code has placed them and stay there forever until the user decides to cut them.

I am not saying there is significant flight risk with Reid. I don't know. None of us on the outside know what the club's assessment of that is. But it is very possible. And the club will be considering it. So no i do not think the decision has made been made and was made on the basis of one variable as you suggest. The other clubs and the media, who would be well aware of which draftees clubs are talking to and what they are saying to them and what we are asking for in conversations with other clubs interested in the pick (and can guess the club's intentions and preferences based on what they are asking for) also seem to be convinced that we are looking to split the pick.

As dumb as the people running our club have been and how much they have run things into the ground people like you remind me that it could be worse. There are actually dumber people out there (like you) and thank god they are not in charge.

But I just saw glass in video package talking about Hurn retirement recently. Thought that was olive branch.

But ****ing hell Dev so disappointed.

Didnt you mother ****ing get subbed out idiot?

It's a bit selfish of Waterman to demand more then two years.

At this point he can only look at himself and what his done at AFL level. Which really isn't much at all. His gone out for himself. Could understand if he was an All Australian player demanding more then two seasons but come on Jake. Two years in his situation is being very generous by the club. His lucky he didn't get delisted. It's a poor attitude with this response from him.
You have to ask yourself

If Waterman and rioli both felt this perhaps we are the problem.

We alienate risky/injured players

Glass was one of those guys that looked at the club and viewed Nesbitt as a bit of a ceiling to any personal ambition.

Glass himself is fine, absolutely believes Robertson is starved of opportunity at Brisbane. I'd guess that Dev is enjoying his football at the moment.

If it's a battle between Zane and Dev then the former offers much more value from a list management side.

He’s probably not the messiah but is a big upgrade on Stringer.

Too early to say that he‘s a poor man’s Petracca, his junior record doesn’t point to that.
Not as a shit bloke or fat ****, but more of a pinch hit in the middle that never really becomes a full time mid because there's no need.
And Petraccas jr record was a fair bit better than Reids (and most other draftees). Reid probably has better top line speed but less midfield ability and brute force power.

He had 8 clearances the other day playing with an injured toe. 8 clearances hardly describes a forward hoping to become a midfielder

He’s trying to get picked for a prelim final. Not sure what else you expect for his reps to be saying.

They aren’t going to come out and say they are leaving. He’d be dropped pretty quickly if that happened. Happy for him to do a Lycett. Win a flat at brisbane then come home.

The Eagles already have a strong draft hand with the prized No.1 pick – set to be used on Victorian teenage star Harley Reid – as well as picks 19, 35, 38, 54, 57 and 75.
interesting how definitive this statement is. especially compared to the vic media today
Cavanagh: "a deal for North Melbourne to trade up for West Coast’s pick 1 won’t be able to be thrashed out until a potential draft assistance package and free agency compensation for Ben McKay are sorted out for the Kangaroos."
