Good point.
But I thought even when the quarantine they could go to the club.
Then you’d have the players that didn’t travel to Brisbane being exposed to the squad members/coaches in quarantine and would throw out the few guys that were available for WAFL selection as they’d then have to quarantine too.

Posted something earlier about the frustration of having to wait but it is what it is. As others have said, trade week is still weeks away and the draft even further.

A lot of players have triggers, incentives.
Apparently Jake Stringer had a $50 000 bonus if he made AA.

But like you said, most top line players wouldn't sign.
A players agent would advisers didn't.

A graders (like Gov was) just say this is my value, pay it or I'm off and clubs are held to ransom in a way.

Look at how GWS have had to pay overs to retain players.

I guess the poker game comes down to whether they would leave or not.

Perth is a 2 team town - so it is uprooting your life if you are a local born, bred and drafted from WA. Very unlikely the 2 WA teams trade (not sure the last one but it hasn't been recent).

That's not to say hold our players over a barrel, just don't pay 'what nth will pay me' when they set wage expectations.

And then put some juicy incentives into contracts (obviously the incentives come from a small wage reduction across a number of players - but at the end of the day if they perform they get paid more - not less).

There is always talk about moneyball - but isn't performance based pay almost an extension of that (in a league where there is a salary cap)? If every player (draftees excluded, as their initial contracts cannot be varied) had a $5k bonus for making finals - then that is $150-175k that doesn't get paid out when the team performs below expectations (and can be banked for future years).

Can't believe the hate for the Gov. The bloke was on a cheap rookie deal and in the All Australian squad in 2015. We got him on the cheap for 3 years and when he finally got paid in his extension in late 2018, he backed it up in 2019 with another All Australian season. It's all evened out in the end.

Once he's over the rumored hip problem, I'd play him at CHF backing up Nic in the Ruck. There's no one in the league who can take a pack mark better than Gov. He's our best option to sit under the long bailout kicks up the wing. Darling's too short and ineffective up the ground. Him and Allen should be inside 50 now. And yes that means I'd retire JK this year.

- Gaff to Melbourne for their 2022 first rounder. If they don't win the flag this year, would they be interested in Gaff? Grew up an MCC member and Dees fan. Gives him a shot at a flag.
- Waterman to Brisbane for Robertson and a late pick their way. Hipwood no guarantee to return, McStay isn't much chop.
- or Waterman to Gold Coast for Sharp. Fit enough to make use of the size of Cararra.
- Sheed to anywhere.
- Brander to Geelong for Clark. Or if Gaff go's keep him and tell him he has the wing.

It is not very clear to me exactly what we need, on paper our forward line midfield and defense all look great. Can you draft a mindset?

Also just confirming do we get pick #9? I had it in my head that we traded that for Tim Kelly?

That was last year’s pick. Agree on paper things seem better than they are. We’re a real ‘less than the sum of its parts’ situation at the moment

Can't see why it has to be face to face at all.
I'm sure zoom exit interviews would be fine.

Is there some pressing reason why it can’t wait until the players and staff are all out of quarantine next week?

Some players have a WAFL game remaining.

Contracts run until the end of October anyway.

The trade period doesn’t start until after the grand final.

I must have missed the part where there is a bonus prize for being the first team to get their delistment and retirements done.

Mark McGowan said the border closures had stopped the drug problem. Another lie

If we could do that than I would like Johnson and Van Rooyen with the bullies pick ..

I'm not sure Van Rooyen goes that high off of one game against a side with shit tall forwards. I still think as it stands he will be there for our second pick as it stands and if not Bazzo will be imo.

3 years of development and you have a 21 year old Van Rooyen or Bazzo (I probably still prefer Bazzo), 24 year old edwards and a 28 year old Barrass. Rotham is 26 but plays slightly smaller than he is taking sheps role after he retires. Duggan 27 for one half back which means we really need Johnson to hopefully be kept and come on in the next couple of years as he has speed and kicking. That leaves the seventh defence spot for cole or nelson. (or Josh Sinn)

The midfield goes very deep in this draft. If we can get the Bullies pick in we could pick up a second top tier mid I can definitely see one of the more inside players slipping, Particularly if the WA team keep playing Johnson off of the HF line. If we Managed to grab the dogs Pick I would go 10. Sinn 14. Johnson 29 Bazzo 35. Warner 50. Dittmar

We end up with a HB who needs a bit more development but is lightning fast, great run and carry and a long boot, A very classy ball winninh mid in Johnson (either side of body and has that ability to seize space others don't see), IMO the best intercepting Key back in the draft who can also actually defend, Warner while not putting up huge numbers is playing league and isn't physically developed for it. Runs both ways and seems very good at losing his man when he wants to and Dittmar who is just a bull. Is great one on one, is a booming long kick and worst case scenario he is a 100+ game tagger. Horne-Francis arseh*le might be a bit sore after Dittmar kept an eye on him for 3/4 before Horne went forward.

I haven't followed the thread for a bit, how are we getting the dogs first rounder?

Dogs will need points to match the expected bid for Luke Darcy's kid who's projected as a top 3 pick

Would Gaff get a game with the D's? probably not
Waterman certainly would not get a game with the GC. He isn't fit enough work work a bowling green
Sheed a pick 40-50 so no point.
Brander is not trade bait - he has shown nothing at 22 to be attractive to anybody..

This is why it is hard to remember our last good win (It was port and the won the second half)

Any interest in George Hewett from the swans, played well on the weekend looks to be on the way out at the swans
