I can see North tanking the next few weeks to try steal number 1 in the MSD on %.

Just seems like the kind of thing they'd do.

100% they will, they have nothing to lose. Their supporters that have stuck around this long wouldn't give a shit and would probably prefer it to get the better pick.

IF the best rated players in the draft are KPP...
...THEN do we still insist on picking a midfielder?

If WCE_phil's analysis of the top of the order is anything to go by (and I have a lot of respect for his footy knowledge), it may be a decision between picking an A-grade KPP vs a B+ midfielder.

IF.... We landed Culley in the MSD

THEN.. I totally wouldn't be against getting the best available with pick 1, if that's Scully as a KPF or whoever else, then mids with our next couple picks.

At least we'd have already addressed our midfield somewhat with the Culley selection, and not de-prioritized it.

This is why the Culley selection is so important (providing we stay below those losers Norf for the next few weeks).

Culley can essentially change our draft completely. If we ignore him and get some rando 2nd ruckman or some other shit, then we're surely locked into a midfielder first and foremost with our first couple of ND picks. Hell, i wouldn't even be against going Culley in MSD then Wardlaw in ND, 2 high end mids straight up.

The past couple of weeks should've convinced our list management team that the Jamieson/Williams combo is worth persisting with in the short/mid-term. Obviously haven't come out on top in too many contests, but they already look competitive as a pair and should keep improving over the next couple of years.

Gawn and Jackson might be the best combo going around, and the Dees didn't get a massive lead in hitouts to advantage.

I'll be furious if we take a ruck in any draft this year, tbh.

Worth persisting with because we legit have no other choice.

Despite battling away they are both so very far off the standard of what you'd want from an AFL ruckman.

Hope nobody, or the club for that matter is pinning any hopes on either of these two long term. It's why i think we need to target an actual proper, not undersized, not part time forward, ACTUAL RUCKMAN at some point.

Neither Jamieson nor Williams will ever be capable of rucking solo at AFL level IMO.

If i was list manager i'd keep one, Jamieson due to zero trade value, and offload Williams to a VIC club, then draft a proper #1 ruck to develop.

Yeah culley and wardlaw would be perfect but if we get Culley and he kills it in the 2nd half of the year i can see us splitting our first and going more outside with tsatas ,especially with all our mature age inside mids

Given our low scores, it'll be a hell of an effort for them to drop their % under ours in 2 weeks.

Round 11 they play the Saints the day after us so will be (perversely) interesting watching the live ladder

That's why getting Culley if we have MSD #1 is so important. He's the stand-out 19yo mid who has gone ballistic this year.

He may just do a Judd and play 1 WAFL game then never be seen at that level again (to be clear, this isn't my expectation - just the out-there best case scenario). Or he may become a small/valuable contributor over the second half of the season.

At that point we can assess needs for the national draft. If he's able to come in and play a role consistently then our needs will/may change.

But if we go for Florenca at #1 then it doesn't really change our needs at all at the end of the year (as much as he can be a contributor for a number of years).

There are only about 38 points in it though (for us that is a full game score!). The scores against are pretty similar.

The risk being they could lose by 100 against the dees then maybe 70-80 against the saints, and we could get within 40-50 of the giants, then maybe 50 of the dogs.

Us continuing to park the bus, but being unable to score more than about 5 goals, is probably the safest bet. It works for development (always develop defence first), for not tanking (clearly trying to stop the other team scoring isn't tanking) and also for retaining a poor percentage (as we'll have our score doubled each week - even if it is 75/36 or so).

Pick #1 in the MSD, then #2 in the ND to avoid the shame of the wooden spoon.

^ This w***er knows where it's at.

we take Jai Culley or riot.

I've never even seen him play and if he's not our next captain I'm storming (lack of)Minerals Resources Park.

It's certainly best case, but if it was ever going to happen it would be this year. Given the lack of exposed form over the last 2 seasons at all levels, you would imagine the chance of a gem or two sliding through the normal draft process would be higher than usual.

Does some kent have a contact that the club this isn't just the membership one?

If so, i say we share that bad boy around all of us on here spam them with reasons why they should be taking Culley in a couple weeks. 50 different emails from big footy 'experts' might be enough for Ro or Nesbitt's son to at least consider him.

Mid Season Draft
  • Culley - Pick 1
  • Florenca - Later pick
>>>> Norf overtakes us to last position and we miss out on the spoon forever staining our club history.

National Draft
  • Wardlaw/Scully/Tsatas - Pick 2
  • Best Avail - Pick 20
  • Needs - Pick 28
  • Needs - Pick 38

Would be taking my membership card back out of the microwave if something like this happened.
