Nisbett will be on the radio in an hour saying we've already committed to taking Flamenco in the MSD and any clubs that are interested in any possible trade targets from the Eagles later in the year can have them for free.

IF.... We landed Culley in the MSD

THEN.. I totally wouldn't be against getting the best available with pick 1, if that's Scully as a KPF or whoever else, then mids with our next couple picks.

At least we'd have already addressed our midfield somewhat with the Culley selection, and not de-prioritized it.

This is why the Culley selection is so important (providing we stay below those losers Norf for the next few weeks).

Culley can essentially change our draft completely. If we ignore him and get some rando 2nd ruckman or some other shit, then we're surely locked into a midfielder first and foremost with our first couple of ND picks. Hell, i wouldn't even be against going Culley in MSD then Wardlaw in ND, 2 high end mids straight up.

Twobiv inside mids? And we also have
That's why getting Culley if we have MSD #1 is so important. He's the stand-out 19yo mid who has gone ballistic this year.

He may just do a Judd and play 1 WAFL game then never be seen at that level again (to be clear, this isn't my expectation - just the out-there best case scenario). Or he may become a small/valuable contributor over the second half of the season.

At that point we can assess needs for the national draft. If he's able to come in and play a role consistently then our needs will/may change.

But if we go for Florenca at #1 then it doesn't really change our needs at all at the end of the year (as much as he can be a contributor for a number of years).

Free up two spots and pick Florencia with a 2nd pick in the MSD.

Duggan may need more surgery and Allen should just sit out the year.

Will be interesting if we have the balks to select a non WA player in the MSD.

The only reason not to pick Culley would be if he didn't want to come west, in which case **** the draft and go to every WA kid and tell them to tell every recruiter they're not leaving the state.

After Smith, Perkin & Hobbs if Culley was to do the same it's pretty clear there's no actual integrity around the draft being there to try and make the bottom teams any better so we may as well rort it as much as Victoria wants to.

He'd surely be worth a 2nd rounder as a trade at the end of the season anyway, so probably worth taking him regardless (that said, has there actually been any indication he doesn't want to move - our retention of players has been excellent historically)

Florenca is fine. Yeah old mate Culley is ideal given his age/size and potential upside, but Florenca is better than nothing.

Had 13 contested possessions after getting tapped on the shoulder 2 days out, in his first game at AFL level, from only 65% TOG

Shuey, Kelly, Gaff, Yeo, Redden hadn't had that many contested touches in a game for all of 2022 or longer

(Until Kelly recently hit the same mark vs Melb on the weekend).

Because it's out of character for Ro and Nesbitt JNR to even add 1 midfielder we desperately need, let alone 2 of them.

Getting first access to the highest rated young player (that's eligible) who also happens to be a midfielder and would instantly add something to our list is probably going to be a little bit too much for Rohan to get his head around.

I'm quite impressed with Wade Derksen - 197cm and a likely looking type. Would be happy with him in the mid season draft, especially as OA looks like being out of action. JD is undersized, and JK may only have a game or two left in him.

How old is he? Body ready for AFL?

Can we get Clarkson in the MSD. Simmo out due to having lost the balls to not pick certain players who have supposed credits in the bank.

What exactly are you on about? Its been literally impossible not to pick a player who’s available for about a month.

We've also got long-term-injuries to about 4-5 players who aren't on the inactive list (plus 2 that are), plus some aging stars who have publicly stated it is their final year.

And Florenca will be there at pick 10-15 (whatever a second pick, if we have one, would fall at).

100% we should take Florenca, but that should be in addition to - not in place of - young midfield talent.

I seriously hope our list-management/recruiting/overlord in O'Brien recognizes that the draft has and always been the fast-track to a rebuild - and getting as much talent through the door when the opportunity presents is the best way to find the next star (and, the sad reality is, many will not make it - but we've got to start turning the list over).

Yes.

I just don't think Rohan thinks in obvious thought patterns like that.

When has the kent EVER picked someone this board was super keen on? He's the master of disappointment.

"Hai gaiz, here's Jarrod Brander when we need mids..."
"Hai gaiz, i know he didn't make the vic metro squad and nobody has heard of him, but here's Xavier O'Neil"
"Hai gaiz, Brayden Ainsworth"
"Daniel venables errrbody"
"Hai gaiz, me again, i know Johnson and Hobbs are still on the board, but how do you feel about Campbell Chesser? He could be a mid one day

Really this is what rookie draft picks, ssp picks and mid seasons drafts are for. You get as much talent coming through and sort the wheat from the chaff. It's also why I really think larger list sizes are such a good idea.
