MSD, if somehow we come out with Culley and Florenca

Then trade period - Tanner, using Ports pick and Devon a 3rd rounder. Both out of contract, both no getting games. Come ND with Pick 1 (Lemmey or Scully) and 19

I think the majority would be happy with that result.

Losing picks 27 and 37 for Bruhn and Robertson looks like a win. Whether Brisbane and GWS would accept that though. Seems unlikely.

Would be tastier if we could offload at least one of Petrucelle, Gaff or Bailey Williams to boost our draft hand a bit more after that.

1, 19 and 73 isn't awful though.

Midfield wise we'd have added Culley, Florenca, Robertson, and Bruhn. That's a lot of midfielders in a nice age bracket. Chesser in 2023 as well.

Totally be taking Scully with our first.

Surely this is the year we get Daniel Rich

Bailey was ok last game and got better as the game progressed. So that was positive. But I can't see him every being a first ruck, so unless he can also learn to be a forward and actually take marks and kick goals, I am not sure what he will offer going forward. I know talls take longer but I am just not sure what his role will be as he isn't great at either rucking or being a forward.

I'm a bit gun-shy of using draft collateral to plug holes in the list via trades, but definitely open to churning over some players with value that we'll have replacements for come our next tilt.

What would a club further through their build pay for someone like Nelson? Experienced, durable, will protect the kids coming through. Not a superstar, probably at or near his ceiling.

CHF and trade out Darling. I think his antics at the beginning of the season has broken him a bit and i feel he is offside with the rest of the group.

I think it would be pretty risky if we replaced Darling with BW given BW's output to date. That said, if Darling has lost the group then that is another issue. Just not sure BW will be the answer. I hope he keeps improving as I had high hopes when we drafted him. But now have my doubts.

I am pinning all my hopes on his astute banana that he pulled out last weekend.:(

Bailey kicks one pearler after missing so many sitters and this board wants him to be a forward. Never change Bigfooty 😂.

I used to love Bailey but he is a lost cause and he should be delisted at the end of the year. I could excuse his terrible body positioning and ruck craft had he had the desire and intent of a Jamo but he gives us nothing

What I think the club will do is chose players that fit guernseys we already have, not players that fit a position that we need.
They won’t want to have new players with no jumpers to play in until half way through next season again.
Probably already asking potential national draft picks what size jumper do you wear so they can get it organised now.

He played better than Jamieson the other night.

Though he needs to do more, more often - 100%.

Petrucelle and Gaff 100% but i did not mind Bailey Williams last game.

Thing about Williams, is that he's a jack of no trades. And i was more chuffed than anyone on here when we drafted him.

He can't handle the ruck mantle on his own, not even close, and at the same time he's no real threat as a forward either. 4th season now as well.

Sam Hayes, an actual legitimate ruckman leading Port (who has developed properly in the SANFL) is only a young player himself, and he schooled Williams and Strnadica a couple weeks ago, picking up 47 hitouts on his own.

Bailey had 17, Strnadica had 9.

I'm not sure keeping these Jamieson (6 hitouts per game,), Williams (12 hitouts per game), Strnadica (9 hitouts per game) types is the way to go.

Don't think any of them are AFL quality personally, but Williams is the only one who might have trade value.

Good post.

I'll make the bold prediction that, in 5-6 years time, Williams will have found his level at the VFL playing as a key defender in the Liam Jones mould.

He doesn't do enough in the ruck but has the athleticism to make it at that level in a different role IMO.

What are our options though? I know you sad faced me with Darling but he is also a non event at this point in time and spends most of the time getting knocked over or begging for free's and collecting zero touches.
He is now 29 and has lost heart (as sad as that is to say).
I would rather the club, or J.K, work with Bailey, at least there is a glimmer of hope/chance.
Desperate times for our club'............... but we are building character.

Therein lies the issue with most of the younger players coming through. Few, if any appear to have something that screams one exceptional feature making it worth our while to persist with.

Pushing aside the Tim Kelly draft picks sent out, our draft approach needs a complete overhaul as West Coast hasn't drafted well in years.
