Our mids all seem to be low possession type mids (apart from Gaff who does nothin with the ball and maybe Sheed) and Phillipou comes accross as that low posession / high impact player.
Not sure that's accurate.
In his 12 games of U18 SANFL earlier this year Phillipou averaged 28.0 disposals, 6.6 marks, 5.1 tackles, 4.3 clearances, 7.0 inside 50s, 1.5 goals.
Then against the Allies on 19th June he had 24 disposals, 17 contested possessions, six marks , five clearances, two goals and two score assists.
Coupled with his efforts on the weekend (being injured after quarter time) I think it's fair to say he doesn't have issues finding the pill and is actually tracking at a much higher output than a Bontempelli or Oliver (both of whom I think are comparable in size and style) at the same time of their draft years.
It's just that he's not doing the Diacos, Ashcroft, Swallow level of U18 disposals.

If you wanted to watch Phillipou's game against the Allies see link below:

Sold haha

Cheers :thumbsu:, good to know he can rack up the posessions. You can build misconceptions watching highlights and reading reports. It comes accross that he's been playing forward mostly with little stints on ball.

I'm annoyed at myself for forgetting such an obvious choice.
Gaff. Gaff by a mile.

Gaff and Sheed then daylight.

A whipping boy is meant to be your Dawson and Vicary types - they seem to warrant auto selection despite obvious underperformances (in this case lack of tackling and defensive pressure).
Nelson and Waterman are terrible whipping boys as they actually do get dropped often and are nowhere near auto selection.

Phillipou and Sheezel can both win their own ball and are maximum damage around the ground.
It's one of these two for mine, closely followed by Wardlaw and here is why I would prioritise them over Wardlaw;

Culley brings a serious contested game already, added with the fact I think a good contested mid will be there at our first second round pick; Szybowski, Hollands, D'Aliola or Ginbey. Better to go the good balanced midfielder with Xfactor early, and get the more contested midfielder later, as if you went Wardlaw first it's much harder to find a good balanced midfielder later.
Hollands is an outside/balanced midfielder. Also likely to be targeted by Gold Coast if they manage to trade for a second, first round pick.

Tanner Bruhn and Devin Robernson as good as ours for Jackson Nelson and our 4th.

Giants already bad, about to get a whole lot worse.
Giants have a problem. They have too much talent in the midfield, not enough up forward (besides Toby Greene). If they can convert a few gun mids into a decent key forward and another good small forward they’ll be much better balanced.

They could lose Taranto, hopper, bruhn and hill and still run out a good midfield.

And yet Brander still can't get a game...
