It's 0.001% of the world's percentage lol.

The flu kills 650000 people every year.

Jesus H Christ.

It's incredibly infectious and lethal. That's why whole cities are being shut down. That's why medical experts, ie, not dickheads online, are issuing very serious warnings about it.

So here's a stat for you:

Regular kinds of flu have mortality rate of 0.1%. Coronavirus is 2.5%.

Yes, it is 250 times more lethal than routine influenzas.

I've moved to the most remote part of Aus (won't name the location) for safety. NBN works great out here, amazing speeds.

Don't forget the y2K bug...it didn't actually kill anyone but it made a few very rich.
That's because we took precautions.

If it becomes uncontained here in OZ which would be quite easy for that to happen the season would be stopped.

I am sure Gilligan would have already been briefed about this.

Having Richmond as reigning premiers for at least another 12+ months would be far worse than a pandemic happening.

Not sure if this has been touched on yet - if so mods please delete.

The spread of Coronavirus the last few days has been unprecedented. The number of cases outside of China has jumped significantly with more than 82,000 people infected globally and is worrying governments worldwide with it's rapid spread. The PM has initiated an emergency response plan as a top Australian virologist has declared that 'everyone is likely to contact coronavirus' and that we are on the verge of a global pandemic. More information regarding this can be found in this Herald Sun article - heraldsun.com.au/lifestyle/health/coronavirus-questions-over-home-isolation-rules-for-chinese-students-returning-to-australia/news-story/b7d91a7fe8e431868007e36a7a7e2542

For those unaware, Coronavirus has a long incubation period (roughly 2 weeks, sometimes longer) therefor the number of cases worldwide is a rough estimate and we don't know how many people have actually been infected.

The reason I bring this up in regards to the AFL, is that numerous sports events are starting to be affected by this virus. The Six Nations rugby tournament has been postponed due to the number of cases in Italy, the last two stages of the UAE Tour in cycling have been cancelled and A-League side Perth Glory have refused to play an AFC Champions League game in Korea against Ulsan Hyundai. Other sports events such as the Cheltenham Festival, Euro 2020, the Giro d'Italia and the Tokyo Olympics are all monitoring the situation.

Should the AFL release a statement or have a plan in place in regards to the spread of the virus? While the number of confirmed cases in Australia is at 23, that number could well rise and potentially affect scheduled games.
AFL release - if you get the sniffles it may be a cold it may be coronavirus. If you believe coronavirus is a major issue, don't come to games. If you are sane and realise it's just a flu like problem then feel free to attend.

I wonder why the China game isn’t called off yet. That’ll almost certainly be kept in Australia.

Yep, definitely should be cancelled.

But as the figurehead behind the game, I think it’s only fair that we still send Kochie over to China to apologise personally for the cancellation on behalf of the game and the nation. Just put him in a comfortable room and get as many Chinese people as possible file through so he can address them personally, give them a long genuine handshake, and maybe even a hug. Wuhan seems as good a place as any to do it.

Couldn't they just test all the players then play with no crowds? It would be shit, but better than no sport and the AFL would still get ratings

St Kilda vs Port Adelaide in Shanghai, sponsored by Corona.

The marketing dollars must be difficult for the AFL to refuse.

Hong Kong 7's now put back to October, which is a far bigger event than any AFL game taking part in Mainland China.
You have to say the RU cares more about its players welfare than the AFL.

You can play the matches behind closed doors if worst comes to worst. Noticed Inter Milan did that last night. it really depends on the response by the government.

I can't see how we will not have it here now that it is in Europe and East Asia. Just a matter of time
behind closed doors also depends. What happens if a squad gets hit with 14 days quarantine?
Given it can spread before symptoms show, if one player in a squad gets it they may all be in quarantine. Just as some workplaces overseas are shutting down over a single case (though that's only in areas where the spread is already uncontrolled such as Korea).
