The AFL is taking its lead from the government and deluding itself in the hope that things will just pan out. A player will be exposed, the season will end and all this nonsense will have been for nought. Try getting in front of the problem, for once.

We’ll all live without footy for a while and for those shedding tears for the AFL’s financial situation, the government will go to much greater lengths to save it than the local corner shop,

so just one inevitable positive test and it shuts down, yet they will have made plans, pre booked flights hotels which will still be an expense. is it april 1?

Suns beautifully placed to make the most of things - generally bank wins early before fading, played the first 10 rounds away from home only a year and a half ago so know their way around a compromised season and have been to China more times than most so are probably stacked with immune players.

Get around them for the flag :thumbsu:

If the swans are as is mosy likely wooden spoon contenders this year and the suns somehow manage not to be I'm absolutely jumping on that bandwagon.

I don't get what's the problem with flying domestic length flights. They land and go to the hotel and are otherwise in lockdown anyway.

as long as all five state governments:
a- Don't put restrictions on movement between (its happened in europe) the NZ 'state' has already done this. WA is effectively a different country by distance
b- Keep their general restrictions consistent

That’s the thing about Australia the distance between our capital city’s is quite large compared to places like Europe where you would cover the same distance and go through multiple country’s

The Australian Constitution guarantees freedom of movement between all States and territories.

The dilemma is whether the people and governments are happy to suspend this for the sake of controlling this pandemic. If WA instituted a travel ban at ports and airports (land crossings are relatively few) for interstate travellers we could theoretically get on top of this - but the legalities are problematic.

Any decision to play is motivated by money and that's all.

The whole season is now completely compromised and any results coming out of this year will be met with a dismissive asterix. It's pointless.

Sometimes I get little bored and play around with ideas... I have previously already designed a fair 17 game H&A season, and even more so, if it were to be 2 years of 17 in a row.

Its pretty simple, I posted the basics on twitter last night, but it goes something like the following:

Each team plays:

8 home games
8 away games
1 shared gate with same stadium tenant game
Shared games look like the following:

WCE v Freo Derby
GWS v Syd Battle of Bridge
Bris v GCS Q Clash
Ade v Port Showdown
Ric v Car Season Opener
Ess v Coll Anzac
Haw v Geel Easter Monday
Bull v North Good Friday
Mel v StK Make up something for them.

Then, for fixturing purposes only, you keep those teams grouped in pairs. Each team will play one home game and one away game for each pair,
This means equal amount of travel for EVERY club (excluding their location/distance). Each team will play in WA, SA QLD and NSW once each and 5 away games in Melb each (1 of those will be the shared gate for Vic based teams).

Then, if it is a two year fixture rotation, you just swap home teams to away teams and vice versa for the following season and still, 1 game each in non vic states, 5 away games in Melb.

Now every second year, the AFL could mix up the Vic shared games for a little variety, but the formula in principal remains the same, and it is the fairest draw possible for EVERY team in the comp.
