Cox and the Brownlow

He'll probably be leading WC, but no way will he poll anything meaningful. If he has 10 votes in total for the year, I'd be staggered.

We haven't just been losing, we've been losing big- when you get slammed by 10 goals, you very rarely even jag the 1 vote, because there are too many good players from the opposition.

Good work Cuz09, I was right, though Judd kicked more goals and probably had more contested possessions and clearances, but still, you would have to say that if you were starting a team from scratch and had to choose out of Cox and Judd you would have a tough decision to make

i'd say cox will be lucky to hit double figures, even though he deserves to.

once the margin hits about 10 goals then one team will almost always get all 6 votes so that rules him out against Richmond, Geelong, Hawthorn, Collingwood, first SYdney game and first Adelaide game (statswise 5 of those 6 games, sydney the exception, have been some of his best games this season for which he'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 votes out as a reward).

Then in the games we won, against Adelaide he won't poll and I don't know how the other guys went against Brisbane but he should get 2 or 3 there.

in the other games he might snare a few votes:
Fremantle, unlikely
Port Adelaide, unlikely
Bulldogs - may sneak a vote
Carlton - should get 1
North - should get 1
Sydney 5 points loss - doubt it, maybe though because it was close
Essendon - doubt it, Hille played a blinder
Brisbane - should get 1 despite the loss

i'd say at this stage he'll be on 6 to 8 votes.

It's been a while since a team in the bottom 3 has had a player this dominant.

Not even Cousins or Pav were like this during the early stages of this decade.

Yeh i dont think hes a shot to win it. Even though hes at $151 for him to finish top 3 at $38.50 is worth a punt. I calculated he would get about 14 votes max uptil now. And thats being generous. Unfortunately this isnt the year for Coxy. If we won about 1/3 of the games and didnt get smashed by 10 goals+ in the ones we lost then he'd be a shot.

Although i have bet on more stupid things.. like us to win last week by over 16.. that failed. This week .. eagles to win anyone? We're at $5 just to win and we're at home!

Not sure how he will poll but he is a brilliant player. Top 20 in my eyes and can be a matchwinner. Basically a midfielder with his tremendous running ability. Amazing player that should get AA this year. Been a shining light this season playing through pain.

if recent history is to go by it's not out of the realms of possibility that he reaches the top 5

in the past 8 years, the bottom 3 teams have featured in the top 5 of the brownlow medal on 3 occasions.

Scott West 2004
Ben Cousins 2001
Nathan Buckley 2000

which is more than what i would've thought there'd have been.

in saying that all 3 of those guys finished in fifth or equal fifth so betting on Cox to be top 3 would be going against the trend.

Don't see him doing that well in the Brownlow unfortunately, but I'd give him a good show in the AFLPA MVP award.

Specially since it's the Leigh Mathews Trophy, and Leigh himself just said he's the best value ruckman he's ever seen

Robert Walls is an ALL AUSTRALIAN selector and was just onthe couch saying "Sure he got 36 possesions but there were a lot of cheapies" then went on abotu Darren Jolly having a great year.

Would not surprise me if Cox misses out - he deserves to be on the bench at the VERY least.

Robert Walls sucks many different ***** every season.

First he sucked off the Freo Dockers and then he sucked off Geelong.

Then he said he loves Big Cox and sucked him off and now he is sucking Jolly.

See the pattern, Cuzzy?

Interesting Leigh Matthews said about Dean Cox in a press conference after the game that he was the best ruckman that he had seen in his 40 years in the game and that included John Nicholls and Polly Farmer.

Maybe Walls has a problem with fact that Dean plays for an "EVIL" side.

I get that feeling too - petty

All midfielders though.

We are dreaming.

I reckon if you pulled up Chris Judds stats from 2004. you will probably find that Cox's stats are better
They probably are, but who would you rather have in possession of the ball?

And let's be honest, even though he has easily been our best player this year, he has picked up a lot of cheap possessions in the back line and really hasn't been all that damaging up forward

No chance of going anywhere near the pointy end of Brownlow

i'd say at this stage he'll be on 6 to 8 votes.

just looking back at what i wrote there and i think 6 to 8 votes would be accurate, but if we had been a bit closer in some games, and even won a couple more he'd probably be on 12 to 14 and half a chance.

The one thing is though, from all reports, Ablett could be on 20 or 21 to this point. But then last year most people said he was a shoe-in for the brownlow.
