Geez... give a fair comparison - you were using Brisbane as the example, not Melbourne.

Brisbane is a city of 1.7 million - Lions got 30,000.
Newcastle is a city of 450,000 - Knights got 21,000.

Yes Melbourne has awesome crowds for AFL... everyone knows that, don't need to dwell on that anymore. And don't draw on the fact that the Lions draw more than the Broncos.. I know that too.

There was the great Warrick Capper poaching early on amongst others . Just because there isn't a hatred that seems to exist between some clubs , doesn't mean there isn't a keen sense of competition deserving over derby status .

if the socceroos in the next 5 years get consecutive 100,000 sellouts at the MCG does that mean AFL will be relegated to #2 in the Melbourne market? If not, why not?
