It has no history... but Brisbaneite's hate Eddie when the Lion's were at their prime after he said that Sydney + Brisbane don't deserve salary cap concessions.

Geez... give a fair comparison - you were using Brisbane as the example, not Melbourne.

Brisbane is a city of 1.7 million - Lions got 30,000.
Newcastle is a city of 450,000 - Knights got 21,000.

Yes Melbourne has awesome crowds for AFL... everyone knows that, don't need to dwell on that anymore. And don't draw on the fact that the Lions draw more than the Broncos.. I know that too.
WELL NOW ABOUT THIS ? Sydney has supposedly 4.2 MILLION people and the famous South Sydney can only pull 8000 to their last two games.

WOW THANKS FOR THE NEW UPDATE!

Yeah, South Sydney are pathetic for getting crowds. And they've been on the bottom end of the table for the last 4 years. What's your point?

There's nothing new to argue.

AFL crowds in Melbourne > NRL crowds in Sydney

Souths have been on the bottom more or less since 1990.

16 years of cr@p.

When they do finally come good, the bandwagon that hits will be the biggest bandwagon in NSW ever.

.

Au Contaire . Brisbane and Sydney share a similar history , with a good onfield rivalry . The crowds have always supported these clashes above most other teams . There was the great Warrick Capper poaching early on amongst others . Just because there isn't a hatred that seems to exist between some clubs , doesn't mean there isn't a keen sense of competition deserving over derby status .

its only a rivalry by default and geography, two transplanted teams, given huge concessions and really both only have a following, that is skin deep in each market.

Well Australia hasn't played NZ , but NZ has played has played the Australian states particpating in an Australian Football carnival with good results .

And the New Zealand Falcons are the world champions in Australian Football .

Never say "never" , it's a very long time .

do any of the sydney RL teams average more than the swans do per game?

Jesus, stop diverging from the subject matter!

I was talking about when the swans were averaging 9,000 a game when the Swans were doing sh*t.

In 1990, yes.
In 2006, no.

hey!!

read the thread title, its all about crowds, and I asked a crowd specific question.

Me: Swans got 9,000 when they were as sh*t as Souths is now.
You: Who has more histroy in the Sydney market, the rabbitohs or the Swans?
Me: How many other teams did they have to compete for support? The South Sydney Rabbitoh's or the Sydney Swans?
You: do any of the sydney RL teams average more than the swans do per game?

Notice how the first post was about when the Swans got 9,000 crowds?

perhaps its you, who has the attention problem!!!!

No, its not me.

No, its not me.

Me: do you think that the NRL will get many normal games in sydney, in their own stronghold, to outdraw a swans match?

Go on, keep on persisting, good luck in getting a different response from the first 100 times you asked the same question.

a few, but not many.

if the socceroos in the next 5 years get consecutive 100,000 sellouts at the MCG does that mean AFL will be relegated to #2 in the Melbourne market? If not, why not?
