i think there are few peopls who are both genius tactitions AND people managers. Whats most important is to know what your weaknesses are and delegate those areas to people better at it than you are.

I think clubs should always surround their head coaches with assistants whose strengths complement the head coach's weaknesses, regardless of what those weaknesses are. That said I prefer to go after coaches who are tactical experts first and foremost because it's my belief that coaches who are able to stay ahead of the game tactically are far more rare than people with leadership skills.

Not quite. I for one would not hate any Coach if we were losing a game and the Coach tried changing tactics (e.g. swapping from Zoning to Man-on-Man, or whatever), and also moved players into different positions....and we still lost - I'd give the Coach a huge pat on the back. But a massive spray at the players.
But it's when a Coach won't adjust tactics, or won't move players around boldly....and we still lose - that's when I blow a fuse and go off at the Coach (think Neil Craig's last few years).
Oh, and this extends to not being aggressive and bold with List Management. But on this last point, I strongly suspect the upper Hierarchy has meddled in this area in the past. I'm hoping Don Pyke will let the Hierarchy that he is in charge, in relation to all on-field, Coaching, and List Management matters. Nobody else.

The bolded part no longer happens at clubs these days. Coaches have input into list management for obvious reasons but clubs need list managers to protect their long term interests from the influence of coaches trying to save their careers by chasing quick fix solutions.

Since Roo, Fagan etc. came on the scene, things have really changed for the 'Chief Football Writer' here in Adelaide. How apt is the treatment the AFC is dealing up to Rootchi in keeping the arrogant, smart-arsed, biased, spiteful, malevolent, gloating writings, devoid of any real information. We never ever had to accept the blatant venomous scribings of this PA aligned joke and what an overdue day when we called enough. As a 'Chief F W' he seems now to be living on the periphery and the wheel has turned upon him and he gets no more courtesy than a work experience copy boy in any of the local media.

I don't expect it but I hope some lessons are learnt from where he now finds himself.

I always said we should find a Patsy in the lower rungs of SA journalism and take them under our wing and feed them all the good info. We are the biggest ticket in town, we should control the media.
