Autopsy Crows hammer Saints by 63 in round 1

Of course but it’s looking unlikely that we won’t lose heavily again next week and the way Richmond played they’re likely to start favourites. The season could legit be over by round three again. If you were a betting man, we look bottom 4.

I don't think we'll finish bottom four, but I also don't disagree that we look likely to cop another hiding next week.

I thought this was always a likely outcome, given we've once again started the season with the longest injury list in the AFL and several of our best players still underdone. Secretly Ross must be fuming..

However, I'm looking beyond just this season. I liked the look of Hall, and Hastie impressed me in the first quarter. I'm excited to see Henry again soon, as well as Pou and the new kids, Tobie, Tauru, etc.

Throwing toys out of the cot serves no purpose right now.

We have a small hand for this draft.

No free agents.

And Dougal and Nas headline our OOC. No one wants to lose Nas.

I just don’t see how we do much this offseason unless it’s free agency.

Of which, outside of LDU and TDK. There isn’t a lot. I’m not big on Worpel.

Pick up Ed Richard’s and trade Steele maybe?

North are improving. They will jump up at some point. They need to keep playing together until it all falls into place. We have a better list with more experience and we are uncompetitive a lot of the time. We are a lazy team with a laid back mind set. I’m not sure where we are at now. Two matches where they were absolutely embarrassed by average sides. I actually think it might be Boris that got it wrong and terrible list management to not pick up cover for KPDs after losing Battle. Our best line last year is now our worst.
Yeah, you keep saying that, and yet…

You'd much rather a team of 22-28 yr olds over half 30+ and half <20

Our three debutants were 22, 22 and 27. Hall was good, the others I could take or leave. It's not like it was three teenagers we were running out there.

We had more 100 game players yesterday than they did (11 to 9).

Who’s throwing toys out of the cot? We need to change direction, the depth isn’t any good so play the youth. No point losing by 100 points shoving games into guys that are barely AFL standard.

Agreed.
Don’t understand calls for Hastie to be dropped, though he was decent and is the future.
Roll some blokes with speed through the middle. Would honestly rather see Steele at FF the way he’s going.
Put Wilson in mid, tell him to go head to head with Holmes and learn the trade.

Yep.

Steele as a mid now is ok. That's all .... he's ok. I see so many mids in the comp that leave him for dead with speed and flair... skills by foot etc.

He usually tries hard. That's great, but we need more.

Throw these young blokes in. F*ck finals. I honestly won't care how many games we win if we bite the bullet and build a side for the future.

I know Steele won't be dropped, but would be happy to see him spend less time at centre bounces.

The pessimists and half the media tip St Kilda bottom 4 every year.

It's only happened once in the past decade.

12th-14th more likely with 9-11 wins I reckon. Assuming a decent run with injuries (from here).

Yeah, you keep saying that, and yet…

They have done the bulk build already. Now they just need time. We have done it piece meal and without a lot of structure. I think they look likely to be a dominant side in the next few years. We are still gambling on a fair bit of luck over systematic list building.

On the youth point, Adelaide were younger and had played fewer games than our team yesterday.

That's because of averages. We have Hill, Wood, Macrae, Steele, Webster, etc.

Our forward and back lines were very inexperienced, and we have more guys who are finding their feet at the level.

If this was represented on a scatter plot, ours would show a few players with lots of experience and several others with literally none. In contrast, Adelaide's list is consistently young, but most are now in an good age bracket where conststency starts. They're also becoming less reliant on older players like Tex.

Exactly North are no easy beats
A young midfield brigade of Sheezle, Wardlaw, LDU, Powell and O'Sullivan's is all A grade to Elite
Something we can only dream of

Watching Soligo get 3-4 consecutive clearances with no prick with 3m of him shows what a poor leader he is. Too slow as well.

I don't know about all of you, but I am currently sitting down and drinking a nice cold stein of optimism this morning.

Sadly, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong yesterday. I remember seeing the team selection for the Port practice match and thinking "yuck - this is a really weak and inexperienced team". Our squad yesterday was weaker than that.

We desperately need senior reinforcements, not just for competitiveness, but to support our youth. Good luck being Garcia, O'Connell, Hastie, Schoey etc when our senior players are either underdone or not performing.

I encourage others to steer clear of the media piñata attacks we will receive during the week.

Much like RTB mentioned in his presser, I wouldn't want our senior players to play two pathetic performances in a row. It doesn't get any easier against the Cats on Saturday night, but I hope we get plenty of crowd support for our first home game.

Nah I spelled this out yesterday - it’s the 20-100 gamers where we lost it. They had 12 including a bunch of great performers, we had 6 including our sub.

Our average age/experience is dragged up by guys like Hill who have minimal impact. Looking at averages is rarely useful.

In what world are we considering 20-40 game players to be in a group that give you an advantage? They are young, inexperienced players.

The general consensus on when a player starts hitting their straps is around 50 games. And we had 15 vs their 17 50-game players.

He should have to wear the no contact cap so no one gives him the ball and be used as a tagger. Let Windy play his defensive mid role. At least he still has potential. Steele has played half a good season in about 4 years. He’s gone from placing in the Brownlow to being brown pants at any sign of a contest.

Right now that would probably mean dropping guys like Wood, Hill, Webster, Cordy and Jones

Cordy and Jones I could see happening and frankly I think we should. Hill as well if he doesn't bounce back from this week

Other than those guys its hard to see us making tough calls on our other experienced players with our current injury list.

That sounds like the excuses we made when it was just a practice match.

Wood gets a let off because he’s returning from injury. Hill was terrible, as a senior leader dropping him to build standards seems like an investment. Cordy just isn’t up to it. He moves like his legs are made of concrete. Jones is VFL standard. Probably only bring him in if we don’t have anyone left, he’s below the standard without any up side left.

Exactly our best mid was a 30yr old player that Bevo didn't want.
Steele has been over for years.
Time to make the hard decisions before clubs go past us like Adelaide, Gold Coast amd North.

We fumbled Crows did not.....imexperience.
Crows had clear stoppage patterns We did not....coaching and experience.
Often in defense we left our man to impact contest which is a good quality but didn't...result goal..s to Adelaide. Hastie twice in first quarter...he will learn as he is a good player...good skills....it just takes time.
Wilkie can play a different role when he is part of the 3 amigos. None there now so he cannot impact like he used to FACT. Doogs back will help.

Battle played everywhere fwd wing ruck, till he eventually found his spot 3rd tall backman....maybe Camaniti's eventual home....it's not forward...but we have 5 of our first picked forwards out.

Marshall Sincs Clarke all underdone and it showed.

Nas is playing at times like he has drunk his own bathwater...get back to basics... too many errors for my liking.

Outpositioned at stoppages allowed one touch Crows to get the ball forward out of stoppage....into an open forward line.....no wonder they kicked 11.2 inside 30.

Positives
Boyd tried hard no blame on him.
Hall can footy
Wilson played like a 100 game player
Macrae was excellent

Will be better for the run
Wood
Sincs
Marshall if he gets up
Clark
Garcia
Webster

Jury is out on
Ari
Byrnes
Jones
Camaniti
Cordy

Hill was tagged and just had a bad game. Has credits so relax.
Windy and Steele were just okay....but our as a captain he was substandard.

We have less questions than Freo WCE and Norf.
Tiges played a Blues out fit more like the team we put on the park, same with Dogs against Norf and Port wtf was that performance?

Hoks started what 0 and 6.
Can see us 0 and 6 best 2 and 4.

But by then, we start getting our troops back and matchfit an from there who knows.

Season as they say is a Marathon, not a sprint. March April champions last year Sydney shows that there is a long way to go.

Yep invest in the kids now. Perhaps we could let Steele play on a forward flank where he can go at 50% without doing damage to our chances. He’s an okay forward.
