In what world are we considering 20-40 game players to be in a group that give you an advantage? They are young, inexperienced players.

The general consensus on when a player starts hitting their straps is around 50 games. And we had 15 vs their 17 50-game players.

Getting rid of 20-40 game players doesn't change the picture much tbh - makes it worse if anything.

Crows 10: Rankine, Cumming, Sholl, Hinge, Soligo, Rachele, Murray, Thilthorpe, Peatling, Michalanney

Saints 4: Clark, Wanganeen-Milera, Byrnes, Windhager

Have a look at those two groups and tell me that's not where their advantage came from.

We fumbled Crows did not.....imexperience.
Crows had clear stoppage patterns We did not....coaching and experience.
Often in defense we left our man to impact contest which is a good quality but didn't...result goal..s to Adelaide. Hastie twice in first quarter...he will learn as he is a good player...good skills....it just takes time.
Wilkie can play a different role when he is part of the 3 amigos. None there now so he cannot impact like he used to FACT. Doogs back will help.

Battle played everywhere fwd wing ruck, till he eventually found his spot 3rd tall backman....maybe Camaniti's eventual home....it's not forward...but we have 5 of our first picked forwards out.

Marshall Sincs Clarke all underdone and it showed.

Nas is playing at times like he has drunk his own bathwater...get back to basics... too many errors for my liking.

Outpositioned at stoppages allowed one touch Crows to get the ball forward out of stoppage....into an open forward line.....no wonder they kicked 11.2 inside 30.

Positives
Boyd tried hard no blame on him.
Hall can footy
Wilson played like a 100 game player
Macrae was excellent

Will be better for the run
Wood
Sincs
Marshall if he gets up
Clark
Garcia
Webster

Jury is out on
Ari
Byrnes
Jones
Camaniti
Cordy

Hill was tagged and just had a bad game. Has credits so relax.
Windy and Steele were just okay....but our as a captain he was substandard.

We have less questions than Freo WCE and Norf.
Tiges played a Blues out fit more like the team we put on the park, same with Dogs against Norf and Port wtf was that performance?

Hoks started what 0 and 6.
Can see us 0 and 6 best 2 and 4.

But by then, we start getting our troops back and matchfit an from there who knows.

Season as they say is a Marathon, not a sprint. March April champions last year Sydney shows that there is a long way to go.

Don’t think Marshall is much good as a second string forward ruck. If he’s not the main man he doesn’t seem to impact

We threw away all our players in that age bracket. Poor list management 5 years ago made massive holes now.

Wood gets a let off because he’s returning from injury. Hill was terrible, as a senior leader dropping him to build standards seems like an investment. Cordy just isn’t up to it. He moves like his legs are made of concrete. Jones is VFL standard. Probably only bring him in if we don’t have anyone left, he’s below the standard without any up side left.

I'd give Hill one more week to sort his shit out.

As a leader, back him in to respond to his poor performance and give him the opportunity. I'm generally against dropping players after just one bad game unless they've clearly broken team rules.

That said, I agree in principle—sometimes a message needs to be sent. He wouldn't want to repeat that performance again.

Yeo invest in the kids now. Perhaps we could let Steele play on a forward flank where he can go at 50% without doing damage to our chances. He’s an okay forward.
Steele should be played like Swans did with Parker...but we do not have that luxury

We've
He can make it- endurance & strength has improved- but got to work his butt off re speed & defensive craft - does he want to do the work?
There was one bit of play in the 3rd when the ball was streaming down the ground when he did read the play and got over to the loose forward and spoilt the ball over the boundary line. Small thing but it was after those 3 quick goals so I still think there is a lot there to work with for a young defender. Sometimes effort can be seen at the ground more than off the t.v. There is a lot to like about Arie as a young defender and I hope the coaches show that vision to him as a "do that" action.

How bad was that 5 mins after I think hall kicked his second. They must have had the next 5 centre clearances in that time.

Also how bad was the effort from the lads not getting around hall after his first.
That period was the time I was so disappointed. I expected to lose by about 6-8 goals, but wanted us to play it out. Those 5 in a row where they walked it out was appalling. Absolutely no change of hit out by Boyd, no repositioning by the mids, where were Sinclair and Jones coming off the back of the square to even the contest?
Nothing. And with a 6,6,6 formation and skinny in the backs we were sitting ducks.

A couple got around Hall but was disappointing as hell considering he was our only scoring option.

Yep. That was another area where we lost out.

Marshall is usually good for around 20 touches, 5–6 clearances and a handful of marks.

Boyd isn't going to be a forward option, so it's hard for me to see them both playing effectively together.

Hill is a runner, he should be able to burn players off through work rate. He just sat back and watched. NAS was awful but mostly because we didn’t work to make space ahead of him. We stood around waiting for someone else to do the hard stuff. Our leader gave up after 10 minutes of footy. A VFL level small forward, a bulldogs reject and an SANFL ruck looked like the only ones trying to drive standards. There is an attitude problem at the club.

That sounds like the excuses we made when it was just a practice match.
Definitely not excusing that pathetic performance. I am willing to give one mulligan against a full-strength, finals bound Crows side at AO. Produce that level of filth again and the club will have to live with sub 22k crowds on Sunday evenings.

We are so bad right now that playing Boxshall and Garcia on ball is not going to make us worse. Steele played like he’s trying to go home in clean shorts. We probably lose by 100 points this week. At least with a bunch of kids in you don’t feel embarrassed for them.

Nah mostly injuries actually - injuries in that experience bracket:

King, Dow, Henry, Owens, Sharman, Phillipou, Carroll

Not to mention interrupted pre-seasons for Clark and Caminiti leaving them underdone.

The main problem yesterday was that we were missing most of the players who should be able to drive our improvement this year. Unfortunately that's not going to get fixed any time soon.

Unfortunately we never perform against Geelong so I don't think there's much to hope for this week.

Yeah that is a good point.

King, Pou, Owens, Sharman, Henry would probably be the top 5 people would have expected improvement from as far as impacting team performance.

Hugo the other one who did play and was solid at best.

On the youth point, Adelaide were younger and had played fewer games than our team yesterday.
Averages are misleading. You’re telling me you’d expect the same output from 2 x 25 year olds (in the system for 6-7 years) and a 32 year old and an 18year old first gamer?
Their list profile is 80% between 22nd and 30.
Show me how many players they had with sub 30 games experience? Maybe 2. Believe we had 8.
Or players 20 and under. I counted 2 (both top 8 picks) we had 4.

While I believe our effort was poor. This list comparison point doesn’t stack up

However doesn't explain the poor performance and effort of Hill and Steele
Hill had 1 touch at half time due to a lack of effort
Steele has been off for years

When the club is out publicly offering $17 million to opposition players when existing players aren't even on 20% of what he will be getting then its not hard to paint a picture.

I think there may be some merit in what Caro said last week.... Rooey did his best to try to back us up but he's a consummate professional and will always do his best for us.

I'm beginning to question Bassets tenure as being beneficial.

The club never did anything publicly.

Also, who on our list is anywhere near Callaghan in terms of value at the moment. Some will point to Nas, whom I love, but he’s nowhere near Finn’s value.

Caro brought up something that happened at our B&F last year the silly tart, was quite weird.

They have done the bulk build already. Now they just need time. We have done it piece meal and without a lot of structure. I think they look likely to be a dominant side in the next few years. We are still gambling on a fair bit of luck over systematic list building.
A full strength North got beaten by a Bulldogs team more understrength than us, but you keep building them.up.

They also got a whole bunch of free draft picks which they used to pick up good kids and trade for some experience.
With the legups they got, like Gold Coast they should be dominant.
When do we get the leg ups? The free NGA's or our CEO goes to the AFL and grants their ex club a bunch of free draft picks because they purposely destroyed their list.
You compare our drafting with theirs while we have one hand tied behind our backs.

I remember seeing hawks v dees round 3-4 last year. I left that game thinking hawks were along way off from being a good footy team. - things change fast.

We had no forward line yesterday.

Let’s just re-access in 5-6 weeks.
A very tough nest five weeks...
