Because the club needs money and support from its members to get ourselves out of this shit show in the long term. If you’re going to pot them for trying to get ahead then don’t complain when we’re still stuck in the same position in 10 years time.
A 10 goal loss in a time where cost of living is hurting isn't the time to ask for money

I know this is borderline insane glass-half-full thinking but one big difference between thumpings we've copped in recent years and today is that we did put 10.12.72 on the board.

We were 9-3 last year when we scored 72+, and 10-3 the year before that. Considering how much firepower we were missing we could (at least) finally be turning the corner offensively which is a big step in the right direction.

Crows had Rory Laird with 24 effective disposals and Matt Crouch with 22.
They had 11 players who had 15 to 24 effective disposals.

We had 2.
Macrae, with 21 and Steele with 15.

Arie had more "effective disposals" than Wilson or Garcia.
Arie's disposals were also all back-half sideways chips or kicks down the line which are automatically considered effective

And we all know his deficiencies when defending

Needs time in the 2s

Yeah I see far better players in the Crows list. Nothing to do with how many games they've played
It helps when you're a 50% chance to sign any gun that wants to come home. We've lost 2 starting 22 players to free agency in the past 2 years and haven't made any big signings.

Point is , we turned over a lot of our disposals. They didn't.

Hahahahah **** me some people will find any way possible to be negative.

It’s called gratitude, the young blokes would be thrilled to live out their childhood dream, thrashing or not.
It’s reward for a life of hard work, and sacrifice from both they and their families.

You honestly reckon they’re coming from the field saying ‘gee I wish St Kilda didn’t draft me’. You’re having a lend mate

I actually do, I know if my sons were budding AFL footballers St Kilda would be the last club I'd want them at. Why should we pass our life inflictions onto our children.

The odds are they will spend their entire career in a state of flux, without ever seriously contending. They won't have the off field and after playing opportunities many other clubs present.

Plus there are very strong odds they will never be known as a premiership player. But hey they played for St Kilda....Battle & Membrey made exactly the right move.

I lived out my childhood dreams playing in multiple GF winning sides, first and foremost that's what you play for.

Sounds like it might be the right move for you too.

Why support a club you wouldn't want your children to be employed by? I don't get it.

No attempt to use his kicking to our advantage, didn’t take kick outs didn’t try to put him into space. I thought he played a decent game and needs to be persevered with and allowed to use his booming boot. Imo we had plenty who were a lot worse than Arie, including some who got the ball and butchered it time after time.

I don't agree with this take. Arie was very good with the ball and was equal first in the game for intercepts with 9. He did look slow when it hit the ground but Arie was far from our worst

It was a bad loss imo and exposed the lack real quality in a few who have been around for a while. These games when the team is undermined and underdone are often eye opening.

We need more under the hood and fewer GT stripes. Romo is a ruckman which means you can forget running with two rucks and the pursuit of a TDK seems crazy as he’s a Romo virtual clone. I’d love to see Keeler get a run this week playing as a forward who can give Romo a chop out and nothing more. Boyd tried hard but he’s not really afl standard and his inability to take a grab is an issue, decent, honest trier but surely he’s a break glass in case of emergency guy.

Hill needs to do better and will but that was pretty embarrassing. Jones and cordy I’m sorry but just no, I can handle watching kids struggle learning on the go but please no more journeymen.

Caminiti has gone backwards on that effort, hopefully he shows a bit more this week. Burns was ok but it’s hard not to think he’s just a place holder until one of the new kids comes on.

Now on to Geelong, hopefully we’ll bring a few in and be better for the run because that was hard to watch.

Also a pretty big part of why alot of guys request trades/leave in FA now.

Its a fair point, the eternal optimists wont see that.

Perhaps the kids feel great about their AFL debut but that doesnt last a career.

Nick Riewoldts little anecdote about his debut versus Sam Lalors on Thursday night was telling.

People aren’t seriously mentioning Ben Long surely.
McCartin over Petracca is getting a run again. Pretty disappointed nobody has mentioned Billings over Bont.

Really everyone knows we should have taken Petracca, our drafting has been fine since 2018, but you are right, mentioning Ben Long as something like our saviour.
Remember when Josh Bruce kicked 10 for the Bulldogs? Gee I wish we had him back :D :D :D :D

Things are never as good as they seem and never as bad as they seem.

We’ve got the 4th youngest list in the AFL and 4th least experienced. Ratten had the 2nd oldest and 3rd most experienced four years ago. We’ve already done the rebuild. Now we are just waiting for it to come together which takes a bit of patience.

Hawks were still getting belted every few weeks until last year, and that was 5 years after the rebuild started (which was 2019 – when they drafted Will Day and Finn Maginness). The Hawks also have more players on their list from other clubs than anyone else – they have continually topped up to fill gaps and support the nucleus of kids. Sound familiar?

We are two years behind the Hawks – we drafted Owens, Windhager and Wanganeen-Milera in 2021 to start our rebuild.

2026 is the year it starts to come together if the Hawks are any guide. Doesn’t mean we should accept the sort of result we saw on Saturday, but with 7 of our best 22 missing, those sort of outcomes are going to happen.

We are doing it the right way this time (finally – 20 years since we last did it the right way). Just need to hold the faith a little bit longer.
I like you optimism but pundits would have liked the Hawks list over the rebuilding years, they likely don't like ours anywhere near the same.

Jones, Hill and Webster look like they might be done. Might as well invest in kids instead at this point.
Yes to the first two.
Webster was really not bad at all. He still has the desperation. At this point we need him.

Get another 5 goals and the club will win a lot more games.

In an ideal world I would want 5 goals a quarter.

I never said Arie was bad or one of our worst - I thought he was solid

His kicking was good but it seems like from training and match play he either takes on too much or is too conservative - with the latter on show yesterday. Can be improved of course

But I still think there are glaring deficiencies in his game, in particular intercept marking and overhead marking. Hope he develops this in the 2s because once he does, he's best 22
