No mate, the problem is supporters like you think there’s a magic wand that can undo the mistakes of Richo, Watters, and Ratten.

You want to win a flag, or you want to do what we’ve done and be a middling mediocre side for the next decade?

Eat the ****ing lemon and shut up. It’s a narrow minded rhetoric to demand success now without considering all of the factors at play.

If it takes us an extra three years of being shit to then bounce and stay up not a single person on here will complain.
No supporters like me show up and get rewarded with putrid football.

Supporters like me are sick and tired of the excuses. Sick of the same old shit coming out of the club.

We have heard that we will come good in a few years for far too long. It's like Homer Simpson with the flying pig.

St Kilda fans are far too accepting of mediocrity. Collingwood fans don't. Carlton fans. Why should we? Why should we not demand high standards?
We should be demanding success now and that success be sustained.

I think we finally need to take our medicine

Who cares? What's wrong with people wearing their clubs guernsey? They're showing support for their team.

The idea that adults shouldn't do that is just stupid. Bizarre to have a sense of superiority over other fans because of that.
Hit a nerve. Wow wee. Was only an observation ffs. To suggest I feel superior to them because of it is actually idiotic. Take your meds.

There’s a significant difference between accepting mediocrity and acknowledging that there’s no quick fix to our current state. I’d absolutely prefer us to be playing winning footy and have a list capable of contending but reality is that’s completely unrealistic.

Ross and co get the opportunity to right the ship and build a list capable of doing that because of how badly butchered our list build has been for 10 years.

If you can’t identify that that’s not my problem.

Carlton fans? How's that going for them?

Your comment re: finals as a "non negotiable", what happens when we don't make it?

For me.

I review whether or not spending 500 bucks a year is worth the investment.

Cost of living and I'm looking at what I can cut back.
Other memberships to the cricket and soccer have already been given the chop.

I won't be the only one looking at the same.

Well said above

I'd love to turn back time and reverse
  • Pick 1 McCartin
  • Pick 3 Billings
  • Pick 6 traded for Carlisle
  • Pick 7 and 8 Clark and Coffield
  • Blake Acres and a 1st round pick (potentially Kosi Pickett) traded for Brad Hill
  • Hannebery
Reality is it happened. We can't change the past.

Over the last few years they finally got the message and stopped trading youth for sugar hits.

They've been (mostly) making the right moves to give the best opportunity for sustained success. On and off the field.

I'd keep Carlisle and make him captain of the club, and keep Hannebery - but pay him triple so it prevents guys like Lonie, Billings and Gresham getting way too much money. Agree with your other changes, though

I actually do, I know if my sons were budding AFL footballers St Kilda would be the last club I'd want them at. Why should we pass our life inflictions onto our children.

The odds are they will spend their entire career in a state of flux, without ever seriously contending. They won't have the off field and after playing opportunities many other clubs present.

Plus there are very strong odds they will never be known as a premiership player. But hey they played for St Kilda....Battle & Membrey made exactly the right move.

I lived out my childhood dreams playing in multiple GF winning sides, first and foremost that's what you play for.
I happened to run into the father of one of our 1-2 year players walking to AO on Sunday. We were both lost trying to work out which way to walk.

He mentioned that our group of youngsters, including his son, love the place, are all really close and get along really well. There is a 3 year plan and they are all in it together. They want to win the next Saints premiership.

Mentioned Mason Wood is like a father figure to them all, and does an amazing job. Also said the club has been unbelievable in looking after the kids and particularly their families. Concerted effort being made by all at the club.

Got me really excited and proud of the way the club was being run. Then of course I watched the game.

Looking after the families seems to be one lesson we have learned from Battle's departure. Clearly it was an area we were lacking a bit.

Hannebery I should probably take off the list because A. He provided leadership B. We didn't give up high draft pick for him and C. No one else would take our money anyway

My problem was the process. My understanding is Lethlean knows his Dad. It was all very quick. I wonder whether he even did an adequate medical. Absolute amateur stuff.

Carlisle I admit I thought a good move at the time but A. The missed drug year and B. His injuries and premature retirement means, in hindsight, a move that didn't work as well as hoped.

I feel you but there's not really an alternative to "we will come good in a few years".

There's "we will be shit forever" (obviously no) and "we will be good starting now" (a lie).

It's a hard pill because we've been in the tunnel forever and have yet to even see the next turn clearly, let alone the light at the end. Unfortunately we just have to stay the course and hope we got good directions this time.

I don't blame anyone who doesn't want to pay up for memberships right now.

Sorry, I wasn't totally responding to you specifically. I've seen a lot of people, particularly on Reddit who like to talk shit on people who wear guernseys to the footy. I just never understood why some people thought adults should be above that.

I just used your post to fire off my own thoughts on it. I'd like some meds, though.

Fair enough. I like my meds as well.💊

Oh I think you should keep Hannebery on there. Please don't wheel out the leadership thing re Hannebery. Was a total disaster his recruitment. That year, 2018, was a shining triumph of Richo and Lethlean.
Hannebery, Dean Kent, Max King (jury is still out), Jack Bytel, Nick Hind, Matthew Parker, Robbie Young.

We don't win a final without Hannebery. Worth every cent.

But to be fair Bassett and a lot of the board that told us to trust them we are doing it right this time when they brought Ratts in, are the same ones telling us we are doing it properly this time. This is a 14 year rebuild can understand 100% why supporters are getting p1ssed and not buying memberships

Read some of Bassetts emails telling us we are building for sustained success this time when he brought in Ratts - Leathlean and others years ago

Here’s a hypothetical to ponder. Imagine if we’d gone down the same “list rejuvenation” avenue but with Ratten at the helm? How would our development of the kids be going?
They'd be 10kg heavier (fat, not muscle) and run out of steam in the first quarter. Although I do think Mitchito could be a force to be reckoned with, if he went sumo mode and we kept him at full forward

Matty Lloyd looks and sounds like Derek Zoolander, played by Ben Stiller in the eponymous movie, that takes the piss out of the modeling industry, “Zoolander”.

Every time I see Matty attempt to sound serious and he stares straight down the barrel, all I can see is the cretinous Derek giving us his signature look, “Blue Steel.”

Then he opens his mouth and sounds as stupid and vacuous as Derek as well. At he thinks he’s really, really, ridiculously good looking, as Matty and Derek both know is all that matters.

This is fair enough. I had to make a decision and decided the MCC membership takes precedence.
As everyone knows, I am passionate about the Saints to the point that I travel over an hour each way to training.
However you, like me must make decisions. I will continue to support the Saints however the fact we are continually disadvantaged by sham NGA'S and FS and undeserving clubs get free legups, has led me to believe that the AFL is rotten to the core and corrupt and is only there to make money.
But heck them, they won't take away the enjoyment of the sport from me, although I can't justify supporting a competition blatantly corrupted.
