Phillipou isn’t in that bracket nor Owens and Henry. The players we are missing are between 23 and 27.

Nah the bracket was dudes between 20 and 100 games - those in the range where they can really improve fast.

They're the ones we'll rely on to have a good year, and they're the ones who are mostly injured.

Our best players are Wilkie, Marshall, Macrae, Sinclair. None are mediocre, but all are in the final stages of the careers though.

We got a few good experienced guys as every club does, but on the whole that group is mediocre.

Our team and how it performs will be all on potential - we do have the usual more experienced players that we know there capabilities like Wilkie , Marshall , Sinclair , Steele , Hill and by the way all of these guys played today and apart from Wilkie no of them showed up today.

Any we have been waiting for this year to commence and hoping our young stars with potential start winning us games -

King / has the talent to be anything but has been restricted due to injury.

Henry / is a player who gives us as they say Xfactor that most other teams have , once back in we will be far more dangerous in the forward line.

Owens / Maybe our best contested player in the team - if he fills his potential he could end up being our best player.

Phillipou / this is the kid who showed in a few games last year after playing in the 2s he will be better than most of our midfielders we currently run with.

Sharman / a true forward who can take a mark and is a o'k kick - the sort of guy we need not having Membrey now.

These are the future of the club and if they perform this year we will win more than we lose - of course guys like Howard and Butler will give us more than what there replacements showed today - but it is time to move past Camanitti as a key forward , you need to have a creative big mobile guy who can create and I hate to say it but he will never be that guy , I'd rather give Keller a run due to his natural ability , just seems the indigenous guys have it.
I would not right Hammer off because he could very well be our best option down back ahead of Cordy who at best is the 3rd defender in a backline and really he shouldn't be getting a game again due to he has shown everyone he is not very good.

The game plan of playing Marshall more forward this year is way off the mark - he is our best midfielder and should be played there - way off his best today as well as Sinclair / hopefully they get game fitness and lift us from what we saw today.

Hill needs to play as a true wingman and if he doesn't get into the game he needs to be dropped / we need to stop giving him excuses.

Anyway this is the team I would be running with this year when everyone is available.

Byrne (needs to become Websters replacement)or blood who has the ability to do it.
Howard (our best defensive tall)
Schoemaker (our best 3rd tall option)

Sinclair and Nas our strongest players in the halfback line
Wilkie will take the most dangerous forward.

Wood - does the job on a wing / not great today but as we know he can help out our undermanned defensive with his elite 2 way running.

Macrae is likely going to be our best midfielder so I'd keep him as our mainstay in the middle.

Hill on the other wing and if he is useless again replace with Wilson who could already of taken Hill spot.

I think Byrnes is too short to be a genuine lockdown medium defender. You look across the competition at all the lockdowns; Webster 188cm, Starcevich 187cm, Archer 185cm, Maynard 189cm, even Paton is 186cm. Ronnie is 181cm

Fine as a 7th defender to take the 2nd best small but you want these types of players to also be able to impact in the air, not just lock a player away

It just means when the opposition delivers the ball to a player's man and they have to contest 1v1. Nothing to do with success rate, just the raw number of times that player is involved defensively

Saints have loads of kids- 3 debutants yesterday and 3 with under 10 games. Plus others like Nas, Windy, etc who are still fairly young.

We also have loads of experienced guys - Wilkie, Marshall, Steele, Jones, Cordy, Hill, Wood, Webster, Macrae etc.

We probably have more 28+ than most teams. But also, more kids

The list management decisions of the last decade are haunting us- traded first round draft picks in 2015 and 2019 for guys no longer at the club (Carlisle) or in the twilight (Hill). Other top picks didn't work out for various reasons (Clark, Coffield). Hence we lack 23-27 year olds right now.

So we're left with a list without clear direction. A mish mash of youth and experience. I'm genuinely excited about our young group- especially Nas, King, Pou and Wilson. 4 potential stars there. But as they mature Sinclair, Wood, Hill, Steele will decline in coming years.

I'm worried we'll spend the next decade where we spent the last decade- right in the middle. Between 9th and 12th majority of the time. Occasional finals appearance or bottom 4 in a particularly good or bad year.

It's a good point, and I'm not sure if we can contend while those senior guys are still around - the reality is probably not. We'd need the kids to come on pretty quickly and those guys to extend their prime years into their 30s. But there's a reason we resigned Hilly and Wood for 2-3 years, they are invaluable off the field. Wilkie, Steele, Marshall, Sinclair are champions of the club (none of whom were star recruits).

We have a huge wave of talented kids coming through which we may well add to again this offseason, we need these senior guys to drive the standards and show them the way, and hopefully they'll be rewarded with some late career success.

On the weekend effort, I totally agree on Jones.
I would cut Clark some slack though, subbed in after the game totally shot and we were getting absolutely mauled in the mids.
Don't know if it was him per se or a better balance but we evened up the clearances a bit when he came on and stopped them just walking it out of the middle. Wasn't impressive but not totally invisible like Jones.

We are a bottom 6 team and are playing like one.
We were 13th for the majority of the season untill a kick with 60 seconds to go in 2024 moved to 11th by orientate only.
With the natural improvement of Melbourne, Gold Coast and Adelaide we are a bottom 4 team and we are playing like one.

I actually do, I know if my sons were budding AFL footballers St Kilda would be the last club I'd want them at. Why should we pass our life inflictions onto our children.

The odds are they will spend their entire career in a state of flux, without ever seriously contending. They won't have the off field and after playing opportunities many other clubs present.

Plus there are very strong odds they will never be known as a premiership player. But hey they played for St Kilda....Battle & Membrey made exactly the right move.

I lived out my childhood dreams playing in multiple GF winning sides, first and foremost that's what you play for.

My daughter accuses me of "child abuse" for making her grow up a Saints supporter.

We didn’t miss any players because we paid Hannebery. Nobody left because Hannebery took their spot.

Winning a final is far better than not winning finals. Again, that final isn’t won without Hannebery on the list.

He clearly didn’t work out as planned, but it’s hardly the disaster some people like to say it is.
