Well done to Banyule winning both games on Sunday. Their class shone out in both games being able to score into a howling breeze.
In the seniors Parade won the toss and kicked with aid of very strong breeze. Parade didn't kick a goal until the 22 minute mark while Bears squandered chances of their own into the wind. Banyule kicked 3 goals to nothing in the second and should have been further up. The game was won in the third quarter when Banyule were able to kick 3 goals into the wind in a quarter dominated by Truefeldt (14) and Sheppard (4). The last was a formallity where the Bears were able to extend their lead.
Drapac (6) Christian (9) French (41) Truefeldt(14) Gayfer (25) and Parthenidies (36) were the better players for Banyule. Boundy (26) and Young (21) were two of the better players for Parade.

Ahh Dr Truth, when I played the place kick was still in vogue as were black and white shorts, one umpire and the obligatory 3/4 time ***, and if you were lucky a nip of scotch to keep the old ticker working.Hard ball gets sounded like the name of a fancy restaurant some people would be lucky enough to visit once a year.Definetely a fringe player, but played at a time when it was hard uncompromising footy where contests were the order of the day.Nowadays it is the rocket scientists that dictate how the game is played.Alas the game is not the same, but it is still better than watching soccer.

Hi Dr Truth, have SMS decided to stay in D2 next year or are they going to take the drop and rebuild in D3. You were pretty competitive this year with a few recruits over the summer you will be OK.

It would have been funny if Prahran finished 9th, saved from relegation in 2008 when Peninsula got caught cheating and relegated then to be saved by us leaving the league this year.

So, is it now official - Bentleigh back to the SFL ?

The only way the Two Blues would remain in Div.2 would be if the Bentleigh rumour is true and the one that St Mary's wants to take the drop and rebuild is true after being offered a lifeline !
Plent of moves still ahead for the old VAFA Admin and some club head honchos !

I can tell you no one at SMS is happy to go back to D3. If the chance came to go back to D2 we would jump at it. No guarantees in football. Much easier to build a club and a list the higher the grade you are involved.

Bentleigh has appointed Indepedant MP Robert Oakeshott to announce the decision on their behalf...click below for live streaming of the press conference ON NOW

Bearded one, I'm sure SMS will gladly rebuild in D2 rather than D3. I believe the new facility can provide the impetus. I reckon SMS, ESL & GE will miss their old foe from the ESCFA. One wonders whether Bentleigh will go back to their "Chicken Twisties" jumper, would suit the SFL. They'll be needing some cash, so maybe auctioning the 40+ jumpers last worn in the VAFA could be put straight into player payments. With all that cash someone will be looking for a financial planner. I'll bid $20 for number 20. Good luck in the SFL.

Going once.....twice.....three times....SOLD!! Congratulations Sir.

However $20 is no bargain for that item ;)

Probably the best ground and atmosphere we had in our comp. Spewing if they really are going. Not only that reason, it also allows a below standard club get another chance in a division they are not up to.

Well done bears on a solid season. Well deserved flags in both 1s and 2s.

On a side note for 2012, I am to believe there is a GM happening in regards to the lower grades D1 - D4 and turning them into SOUTH 1, NORTH 1, SOUTH 2, NORTH 2. Similiar to that of the 19s.

It would make perfect sense, especially for those wanting to play "Local Footy".

Grandfinal being played in Craigieburn, what sort of statement was that!

On a final note, great even competition IMO 2010 was. Banyule were are a standout, but I think 2-10 teams, anything could have happened on Any Given 'Saturday'!

Its true, the VAFA are floating the idea of making the lower divisions more local, but couldn't give a time frame as to when.
So with nothing to do now on Saturday/Sunday arvos I'll have a stab at what the future divisions could look like if the concept were to come in next year. So here goes....

Divisions are based purely on location of teams & 2011 standings, & on the assumption no team leaves or joins the VAFA before 2012. Division 1 (Premier) stands as is regardless of location to make it fair
(Team & 2011 Div)

Division 1 (Premier)
North Old Boys/St Pats (D1), Bulleen Templestowe (D1), Old Mentonians (D1), Whitefriars (D1), Peninsula (D1), Old Geelong (D1), Banyule (D1), Old Paradians (D1), Williamstown (D1), Parkdale (D1)

North
Aquinas (D2), Yarra Valley (D2), Therry Penola (D2), La Trobe Uni (D2), Eltham (D2), Ivanhoe (D3), UHS-VU OB (D3), Mt Lilydale (D3), West Brunswick (D3), Manningham (D4), North Brunswick (D4)

South
South Melbourne (D2), St Leos (D2), Glen Eira (D2), Bentleigh(D2), St Johns (D2), Old Westbourne (D2), Prahran (D3), St Marys Salesian (D3), Elsternwick (D3), Albert Park (D3), Powerhouse (D3)

South (1)
Hawthorn (D3), Monash Gryphons (D3), St Francis Xavier (D4), Box Hill North (D4), South Mornington (D4), Swinburne (D4), Eley Park (D4), Richmond (D4), Chadstone (D4), Point Cook (D4) , Kew (D4)

*Most won't agree but the Premier Div has 10 teams the other comps have 11 teams, having a bye
*Grand Final winner of Premier only gets promoted to C Section
*Only last placed C Section demoted to Division 1 (Premier)
*Grand Final winner of both North & South only get promoted to Premier every year
*Bottom 2 of Premier - demoted: North get 1 team & South get the other
*Grand Final winner of South (1) gets promoted to South
*only last placed in South gets demoted to South (1)
*No-one ever gets demoted from North

Before I sat down & mapped this out I gave the concept no chance of working at all, but I think this may actually be viable. What do you guys think?I might sell the idea to the VAFA ;) :D

Ridiculous. The one good thing about this comp that not many other leagues have is plenty of clubs and divisions where teams go up and down. Meaning no sides languish down the bottom year after year. As we saw with d2 this year it allows for eveness across each division also. Terrible idea. But good effort anyway

Agree, Banyule were certainly the standout team. Parade got there because they kept things pretty simple and even hard at the pill. Westbourne and Glen Eira liked to share the ball alot more and this was difficult to do with the weather experienced during the finals. Bring on 2011. Big improvers in D2 2011 will be Emmaus. May have caused some real headaches if they made the finals in 2010

Go and have a look at the results for the year peanut.

Yes let's look at the results, in particular SMS' wins.
Prahran (away) Old Paradians (away), Eltham (home), Bentleigh (away), Therry (Home) Eltham (away)

I cant tell if you having a go or not Sniper!!!!

My point was that i dont think we were out of our depth in D2. Probably should have won against Geln Eira twice and also in a winning position against OP at home late in the year. (should have, could have, would have..... I know)

On the contrary.

We also had about 5 games where we lost by under 2 goals (which hurt our finals chances) & were troubled by Prahran in both games - that's how even the D2 2010 comp was

And the Two Blues lost 6 by less than two kicks, and another 2 where we were ahead at 3/4 time. It was ridiculously even and save for Banyule, despite the fact we managed to roll them, there wasn't much between 2nd & 10th, although Parade were probably the next best. Will be an interesting comp D2 in 2011. A shame we won't be part of it.

Its good you wont be apart of it, you have qualified for relegation 3 years in a row and were not good enough to stay up. Go to D3, build some depth and get some young players and come back stronger like we did a couple of years back. You guys have great facilities and a lot to offer so it shouldn't be too hard.

Otherwise you could get that Pokie Venue of yours working and join us in the Southern League.

Thanks for the advice. Appreciate it. Never indicated we were were good enough to stay up, pretty obvious, just highlighting the evenness of the competition.
