Totally agree 23 needs to have a run purely for rewarding a player. He has one of the best goal instincts at the club and SHOULD have had a run. People question a few of his traits but is very creative around goal and has an uncanny goal sense.

The other big key forward despite popular belief is not on the juice at all. He actually hasn't hit a gym since the start of the season. Are you admiring his gains? He will be promoted in due time I imagine as his last few weeks has been very good. Just needed his confidence back I would imagine and is still young and needs the experience of senior football.

Bentleigh had a very down week, I did not see it but from all accounts. Banyule were firing especially in the second quater and were dominated out of the middle led by the ruckman from Banyule. I'm sure Bentleigh will be froffing at the bit next time to atone for such a poor result.

Time for a Bentleigh fwd reshuffle me thinks...

Any chance we'll see mightysainters pull on a Demons jumper this year?

Yep sniper will wonder down to training this thurs been doing more cardio now so will give it a crack.. My joints aren't what they use to be ;)

Both Bentleigh and Banyule look to have good squads across both Seniors and Reserves (based on the ladders anyway). What's the story with Parade though ? They are winning well, albeit against the lower sides and looking over the scores, have a good even spread of goalkickers. Are these players just good against poor sides, or can any of them make the step up to the Seniors to play against the big boys ?

Forget it mate. Parade have been gagged from Big Footy since they were talking about dominating the comp back in Feb March

More than just other fwds ability, lot more to do with old guys dwindling/dwindled ability, slow, old players make it easier for the likes of Banyule. He may kick goals against the sides not going so well this year but it counts for zero if it can't be done when it really matters

Bentleigh are a serious contender for a premiership and/or promotion to D1 , can't win a flag being loyal to old guys and to make the leap to D1 need to get the young guys playing senior footy now....

Other observations from 2 games on the weekend, Bentleigh were short not a tall defender to be sighted, whilst in the 2's they had a tall, young? player running around (number 2) who looked like he had more ability than some playing in bentleigh 1's

May have been a bad day but the ruckman in Bentleigh 2's surely could be a better option than the pot bellied old guy thay had in the 1's?

OK, I'll bite.

Always good to hear from people having opinions on players from outside the club:rolleyes:

No. 2 has played several games in the 1s in years gone by & probably unlucky not to make the 1s D3 Premiership side last year.

Fact is, this year he's been plagued by injuries. The Banyule game just gone, was his 2nd game back, so he needs match fitness in the 2s rather than just throw him in against the best 1s team in the comp.

On the Bentleigh 2s ruckman, its his first year of football or his first year in a long time would you beleive, so he is still learning the ruck caper. Hardest position to play is the ruck IMO, so it will take time. Doing a fantastic job in the twos. Has played 1 senior this year though.

Lastly "the old guys" in the 1s you're referring to (#14 & #18), I'd love to have them in the Reserves :thumbsu:, but thats purely just a selfish thing ;), you just can't buy that experience.

Oh dear, it's turned into the BentleighFC forum again, ala pre-season 2009!!
Some interesting reading and points of view. I see the question was raised a few weeks ago on why Hunt (#23) didn't get a senior call up after kicking 15 and everyone was very quick to jump in and say he hasn't got what it takes.. now there's plenty out there doing a complete backflip!

Bentleigh obviously failed last week in the challenge of facing Banyule at "the bear cage" and I'm looking forward to seeing how we go with another big task in the now 2nd placed Therry. If the coaches do look to make changes after the big loss, there is obviously plenty to pick from in the reserve side that sits undefeated, a great luxury to have! Will be great to be back on our home deck after the last 2 games being away.

sniper thanks for the great link :thumbsu: distracted me from work for 30 mins :)

anyway tips for this week

Bentleigh v TP - match of the round TP in a close one 8pts
SMS v Eltham - Eltham 30pts
GE v Prahrah - GE to bounce back with a 22pt win
Banyule v OP - Banyule to easily account for a very dissapointing Parade outfit by 60 pts
OWB v STL - OWB at home in a close one by 15 pts

Therry have looked to hit their straps and notch up some wins recently, very quiet out of JP Fawker.

OP whats with being gagged you guys were pumped up during pre-season

Sniper I hope your boys are able to keep a lid on things as you seem to have a very good balance thoughout the 1's & 2's

OWB seem to be on the rise, could be due to game plan and match fitness starting to work

Banyule still the yardstick for the comp, have great depth as shown by the 3rds in section B, definately a club going places if they can hold there list together over the next couple of years

Good luck to all teams this week

Bentleigh v TP - Hate tipping Bentleigh but they'll get up
SMS v Eltham - Eltham are pretenders and will lose focus. Serious waste of talent.
GE v Prahran - A draw for these 2 disappointments
Banyule v OP - Fair weather Parade supporters will get back on Bigfooty in droves if there is an upset. Don't put your house on it - Banyule to win.
OWB v STL - St Leos hang out to play away from home and I don't blame em after seeing their sh1theap of a ground

Amazing scenes at Packer Park yesterday with the 2s getting up for their first win in two years for Joffa Egan's 350th and final game for the club.

In the seniors a Prahran player was yellow carded half way through the third quarter, a minute later he gave the umpy a spray from the bench and copped a black card. Prahran kept playing with 18 players and a count was called a few minutes later. They were found to have too many on the ground even though one tried to sneak off while the umpires weren't watching, the crowd made sure that didn't happen. The saints then kicked the next 7 goals. Prahran not happy and on the phone to Benny Goodman at 3/4 trying to get their player back on. I think we'll hear a bit more about this one from the VAFA.

This will be interesting as i am pretty sure this is an incorrect decision from the umpires. The player was allowed to be replaced with the yellow card, and was off the field when the black card was shown, so Prahran were within their rights to have 18 on the field.

A black card for a report off the ground???Technically, the yellow card means 12minute suspension from the game. Its like giving a black card to a supporter.

Excuse me for my ignorance but I've always believed that the colour coded send off/report system is a grey area (witty little pun intended).

By my understanding:

Yellow: player sent off for 15 mins & can be replaced
Red: player instantly reported, can not be replaced for 15 mins
Black: Player reported can not return to the field for the rest of the game

Can someone more learned than I correct me if I am getting confused here?

Been awhile since a Therry post has been on, thought I’d chime in.

Firstly, congrats to Joffa from Glen Eira playing his 350th and final game, a great effort and a true gentleman – sensational effort to get the win for him too.

Interesting results from the week-end, competition still very even with Banyule deservedly on top with the weeks break.

Thought I’d get on here to talk about the senior game between Bentleigh & Therry game at Arthur Street Reserve on Saturday.

Bizarre day in my book. Played the last quarter and a half in the dark, lights on & yellow footy.

This post may look to some like being a “sore loser”…..I can cop that….that’s fine.

It also may look like Bentleigh was a far superior side on the day…..that’s fine.

Therry may not have handled the conditions in the 2nd half as well as their opponents………that’s fine.

What isn’t fine is the disgraceful act on the football field in the first quarter by number 81 for Bentleigh that lined up and crunched a Therry player with his head over the ball (ala Michael Long vs Troy Simmonds – circa 2000 Grandfinal – but worse) – For those who say, he was going for the ball….crapola. He had a decision to make, for a long time, and chose the cowardly act to hit him as hard as he could in the top of the head ….ambulance came onto the ground, player was sent off (should have been black carded)….1st quarter went for 52 minutes, 8 minutes shy of the game being called off. Therry's player is now OK despite a severe headache, some stitches in his head and a very sore neck, all feeling in his arms and legs have returned. He was released from the Alfred Hospital at 1 am, Sunday morning.

Player tried to take the 3 weeks after the game. It will be heard at the tribunal.

What occurred after this in my book is a lot worse….we had a player, who was obviously unconscious for a long time, who had been convulsing on the ground, waiting for an ambulance, everyone concerned. The Bentleigh bench, coach staffincluded acting jovial towards the situation…..Number 44, Kyle Swindon was riding on an exercise bike actually laughing at the situation….laughing whilst it was unknown whether or not our player would end up a paraplegic. This isn’t an overreaction….it was the worst act during a football match I have ever seen, I have been involved and played in amateur football for 20 years.

Not on here to seek retribution just thought I’d update you all on what kind of people we have in our competition.

I was proud of our boys for remaining disciplined from that point on, and remaining focused on the ball. Unfortunately we were beaten on the day.

When I last wrote about the Bentleigh ferals I was lampooned by Sniper. What now Sniper after Saturdays incident. And just quietly I was at a game where one of the Bentleigh bully boys tried it on but backed down when confronted and I wasn't sitting behind my computer.

You have got to be kidding me mate. No one in their right mind would be laughing at a situation like this, to say this on a public forum is totally absurb & inflammatory.

The Therry player lay on the ground for approx 25 mins, do you think the coaching staff & the Bentleigh may have been talking about something else within this time?

But thanks for you're only contribution this year to the forum, one at which is slanderous

The incident happened right in front of me & I can tell you it was a little worrying to see the player laying on the ground for that long, not something you want to see at every game. But he was in the best of hands prior to the ambulance arriving. Not only were your trainers there but ours as well, plus highly two fire brigade members from the crowd (one of which is a trainer for the Demons) & our ground manager who called the ambulance.

We as a club were very concerned for the player's welfare, as if he was one of ours, & we are pleased to hear that he will make a full recovery
