monash came home with 6 goals unanswered in a rush in the last to nearly clinch the game.
lee wells kicked 5 in the last. good game

The scribe is the coach Dennis Grace. I saw him in action in their Friday night game last season and he's not one to talk up his team if they don't deserve it. He calls a spade a spade and is an excellent coach.

Mcglede,
Surely Hawthorns thrashing of powerhouse yesterday and the wicks insipid performance against West clearly shows that the super coach of the decade (1 D4 FLAG) TALKS UP HIS SIDE WHEN THEY DON'T DESERVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsu:

What? It's surely so because you say it is?

Hardly.

I will be interested to read the report from this week. If someone could post it here it would be appreciated. I doubt the coach will fill his team full of praise this week. My guess is he will tell his players that the effort wasn't good enough.

That said, could we all say it was unexpected? I would be interested in seeing Elsternwick's record over the other side of the Yarra River. They rarely win when they have to cross the river.

i wouldnt call Westbourne soft this year. The recruits have added much needed toughness and cant see anyone getting within 5 goals of the mighty warriors as they progress up to the next section in the amateur ranks. beat two good Central Highlands sides for hardness at the ball in preseason games and thats what most 2nd division country sides are good at.

Hooray - good to see the Warriors bandwagon running full steam ahead. Vineyard, keep chugging, massive early season wins is what it is all about. Must be so proud to beat the bottom two sides. even though April rain does not signify the end of a drought, neither does two wins against sides that would do well to compete in the "little peoples" games. A dry winter and the warriors wagon to will shrivel like your chemically shruken testicles!

Go Hawkers!

Did Latrobe have an unregistered player in their game against monash?
I too have heard a rumor that La trobe may have played an unregistered player in their win against Monash. If true it would be a devasting way to lose 4 points after such a close hard fought game.

Has anyone else heard such a rumor?

well the there has been a whole round of games played on the weekend so surely people have got some thoughts on the matches.

OW v Swinny. good hard fought match. With swinburne getting within 11 points late in the 2nd 1/4. OW kicked the last 4 of the quarter to hold a steady break at half time. but didn't look as sharp as the margin suggested. missed opportunities cost!
3rd quarter was one way with ow finding some fluency in their ball movement. The sting was out of the game in the final quarter and some tired players ran the game out.
Swinburne had some good signs. their attack on the pill was good and with such a small ground that may be a huge factor in them getting a few upsets on their home dung. CHB (big bald bloke) took some good contested marks and Merry at FF was terrific kicking a bag in a side that struggled to supply him.

Ow had numerous good players as you'd expect when kicking 25 goals. good to see a couple of wise old heads back for ow in Juck and Plats.

Holding reservations on OW until they are tested by a quality side!

any other match reports fella's?

patty - mate its about time someone came on and talked about footy.

Is talking about how little everyone else talks about footy considered 'talking footy'? You are a stain.

I definately didn't predict Hawthorn's big win. Any details on that game?

Hey I'm getting better at tipping, 3 up on last week for a grand total of 3 for the year....I know football.

Bring on round 3, at this rate I'm going to get 6 out of 5 this week!

Good to see the real WB turned up this week, at least one black and white team did the right thing by my tips, but I'm staying on the bandwagon!! Watch out Monash this week, Ivanhoe are getting back more players every week and suffering no injuries. By round 18 they will have a full squad to pick from and start their winning streak!

i am just wondering what is going to happen when ivanhoe play WB this year considering they both wear black and white stripes. surely alternative strips would have to be used?

You are genius aka! I would suggest IA in the White and Black, and WB in the Black and White. YOu are so smart, are you Harv's love child?

Any half-decent supporter of D3 would know WB have black sleeves while Ivanhoe have striped.

Other jumper clashes were posted on the VAFA website - Hawthorn v Kew, Elsternwick v Essendon etc

yep hawthorn were just far too good.

there talls dominated, and powerhouse just ran out of legs.

powerhouse were getting second to the ball, and at times would just have no one to kick to in the last as they had stopped running. they did get 3 late ones tho.

We have an even comp on our hands this year. Westbourne, not tested but the clear standout. They have a genuine goal kicker and going on the results supply is not an issue.

The rest of the comp looks a doosey, Swinnie/Hoes excluded. Sorry u guys stink like relegation fodder. Latrobe has not put a foot wrong, Hawthorn had a strong win to get the campaign started and Kew got rid of the demons of round 1.

Monash have had solid results and have suprised me (Were my spoon favourites). But will the young students find the knocks and bumps hurt a little more come queens birthday? Westies are an entity we shall not discuss, as they say the jury is out.

Elsternwick will bounce back and after the shudder of the weekend will find themselves in the september action. Don`t get me started on Powerhouse, looks like the Sth Yarra poach is over. D4 showponies, D3 pretenders and u are not worthy of another keystroke (however might come good).

Swinnie will struggle to stay and Ivanhoe for the double drop.

Centrals played Sth Mornington this weekend. We had to wear the VAFA alternate strip. Lovely woolen jumpers with green and purple rings.

I can tell you that it is definately a disadvantage playing in the strange jumpers against your own jumper. You often have to look twice and its probably worth a few goals.

Pete, haven't you been keeping up to date, Ivanhoe are bringing back new players every week now. If I were you I'd jump on the bandwagon now (I may not let anyone else on after this week...jam packed). And as for Swinny, mate, they've got 8 more games on their postage stamp and that's 8 wins, so only need to sneak a few away wins and could find themselves in top 4!!

Think you've written off 2 powerful clubs....

Kew have new jumpers but will still have a slight clash with Hawthorn, Elsternwick and latrobe will have a fair clash this week.

How do you bring 'back' new players?

They have gone missing, just like the Elsternwick match report for round 2

1/ Problems with the VAFA website. Nothing more, Nothing less.

2/ Injuries and unavailabilities have meant a slower start then expected. Power House will improve.

3/ Paul Edwards is playing at Power House.

Does that satisfy the rumour mill?
