And good drafting, it's like the Twilight Zone.
I've heard of such things in my disremembered past. Something about selecting Daniel Talia before Kane Lucas...

I know that you said that you don't want a discussion about loyalty but that is what is burning me up.
We all expect loyalty from our players but our players don't get the same from the club unless the club deems it to be necessary. Chris Dawes had loyalty, (he signed an 'unders' contract in 2011 in an attempt to show the sort of loyalty that could keep a premiership group together) he's gone, Heater made some mistakes but his heart was always with us, his loyalty unquestionable, he's gone. The Shaw family is almost Collingwood royalty but now we have thrown aside our final tie to them.
Didak refused to be traded back to his home state because he wanted to be a 'Pie' and despite all of his foibles that desire never wavered, he's gone.
Everyone is expendable, we are a business now, with all the humanity and compassion of a corporate giant. What if the supporters took the same attitude, if we only expend our resources where there is a profit to be made or a return on investment that has a fiscal return greater than our investment, why would we pay for a membership ( as I have done, a full social club membership even though I live in Perth and can't afford to get to Melbourne to make use of my game ticket entitlements in the last couple of years. In fact all of the years that I have been a member I have never been able to make use of this on more than even 3 occasions in any year.). In Eddies eyes I must be a real mug, especially since I'll even renew it again for 2014. Don't think for a second that I am one of those people that has been anti Eddie, Bucks or anyone else at the club, I have until now been supportive and enthusiastic in my belief that our people are the right people. Such faith means that my disappointment and disillusionment is even more painful than that of the cynics we hear from so often.
I will always be a Pies supporter but some of the lustre has been removed.

Much to think about here magpiewarrior.

I too was really sad to see Dawes pretty much shown the door, felt his loyalty should have been rewarded by at least another year to see if he could get his mojo back. I hope we haven't become a heartless club. I'm going to miss Dids too (wasn't that great when he finally got back into the senior team, how the players and us supporters loved it, my heart sang).

Seeing as you needed to get rid of wellingham and Dawes for cap reasons getting picks 17 and 19 (or whatever it was) was massive overs. There is no way they were worth that.

Grundy and Kennedy will be much much better players and I am still gobsmacked at how you got those deals done!

Both Wellingham and Dawes were pivotal in 2010.

Dawes had a bad 2012 getting player out of position but he's a young kpf with a huge off the ball work ethic. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up regretting that trade tbh.

Wellingham was easily worth that pick. He is underrated because (a) because in 2010-11 we had so many guns in our midfield (b) a lot of people don't like him because of his off field shenanigans and a perception that he's an arrogant tool. Some also don't like him because of the hit on Simpson (probably not many on this board though). As a midfielder he's very balanced in that he is good inside packs and has the pace and stamina to play on the outside. Is a goalkicker and strong overhead. He was also to some extent played out of position in 2012 due to our midfield depth and requiring him in areas where we weren't as strong.

Thomas is a great player at full health there is no doubt.

However, in not matching the offer, we are saying we are gunning for a 10 year player over a 3 year player. Thomas may well be a better player than whoever it is we pick up, but in bald terms we may get 10 years of a 75% player V 3 years of an 85% player.

Beside that, we know that Thomas has been a fluezy this whole trade period. I find it repugnant that a player on mid 6 figures can't bring himself to knuckle down under a new coaches regime.

I'm taking the long view regarding Buckley's culture change.

Carlton supporter talking about salary caps. How ironic.
He's actually paying Collingwood a complement (securing 2 first round draft picks, then drafting good players to replace them).
Although it wasn't a salary cap issue......Dawes was replaced by Lynch & moved on.......Wellingham chose to go home & play on trampolines.

As much as we jest about his suspect ankle, Daisy really was a great player for the club. He was definitely one of my absolute favourites going around, it's too bad his last two years have been write offs.

I'm not sure how I'm going to react when it's all confirmed and he's wearing a Carlton polo with Mick sitting next to him. I know he won us a premiership and all that but leaving, for Carlton? I fear I may be one of those supporters who can turn on a player when they leave, but maybe not, don't know yet. I'm sad at the news at any rate.

IF his ankle is good & we know it, he knows it & they know it, then he's a dog & should be booed for eternity. We have paid him handsomely even during his last two years of doing bugger all.

If is ankle was good and we knew it (and we wanted to keep him) then wouldn't we just match Carlton's offer?

By not matching Carlton's offer, and despite having the money to spend - the club are effectively saying "Carlton are paying overs".

I don't have a problem with that.

Get what you are saying, it's my contention HE should've stayed for less in your scenario.

I think that the club probably seriously considered retaining Thomas (I don't call him Daisy anymore - except just then), however Bucks weighed up the pros & cons & said "you know what gents, let him go, we will be compensated & can replace him with a young up & coming player & there is a ? about his overall attitude...if we are cleaning house....let him go"

The ankle may be fine but it's not about that. Thomas does not buy into Bucks culture, so the club is not standing in the way of Thomas leaving. It's clean out time!!

We're probably also saying get f*cked if you don't want to be here. Eat a bag of dicks and eat them for a couple of years.

I'd venture to say we'd have kept Thomas on if he wanted to stay. Mick is distorting Carlton's chances by his juvenile revenge fantasies which Dale has bought in to. Thomas is no Ablett, will barely be missed.

It was never going to be smooth exit for DT especially going to the Blues, but I can't get my head around his comments on the radio last week.

What did he think he was going to achieve by doing that?

What were these comments?

Is this the one where he said he was now talking with collingwood and working through the contract?

His comments on the radio telling the kids to get their no 13 Collingwood jumpers out of the bin and that people will have egg on their faces.

I'm sure someone will be able to put up the actual quote.

Do remember reading that now, cheers! Thats actually the comment i heard that made me believe he was staying.

If I understand things correctly, if he was prepared to stay for less then he wouldn't have nominated as a restricted free agent?

So we've known all this year that he was never going to accept unders.

Same here, I was almost convinced he would stay after saying that.

If and when he goes, those comments will be a real kick in the guts especially to the younger Pies fans.

he was more saying IF he signs with collingwood that's what will happen. it was more a comment on people giving up on him before any deal was official rather than suggesting what will happen. i have no doubt in the coming years this will be quoted without the context to make daisy look like a dirty liar giving kids hope. actually it's already happening.

Relax people. We shouldn't feel so bad. Afterall, Hawthorn just lost Buddy to the Swans!! I think Daisy leaving pales in comparison.

The thing that sh!ts me is that he would have known where he was going at the time of those comments which makes me wonder what he thought he'd achieve.

We went from winning to losing and now quality wants out and/or is being pushed out. Jesus is as stark as it gets.

Buckley has 1 year IMO and if he can't pull it together he has to go and Eddie has to do it or he has to go. The egos and stubbornness damaging the club are not the sole proprietry of the better players.

You call 14 and 8 (H&A) losing? Add in the players missing (Thomas one of them) and I'd hardly call that losing. Go back and look at our injuries from 2010 and you won't find many, same as 2011 before the end of the year when they started happening and funnily enough, we lost form. People underestimate injuries far too much.
Never mind the fact that MM was supposed to be there still now, and part of his role would be to manage the players and guide Bucks in this role (what Eade was doing). But nah he didn't wanna do that, he was a premiership coach again finally and was above that crap.

I don't think the players have to nominate. They just automatically qualify depending on the various criteria

As much as I liked Dale Thomas, he is not worth 700k per year.

He has always relied on doing the 1 percenter's in games to have an impact. Things like jumping like a mad-man on the mark, forcing the ball out of bounds in a 1on1 contest that he looked like losing or even heroic tackles and smothers. He expels a lot of energy in games doing things like this.

I think all that stuff is great but a lot of the time its not enough to change a game, and not worth 700k.
You also forgot the flying for speccies making a fool of himself can't kick a goal unless closer than 30 mtrs.straight in front supporters love for him blindsided his deficincies and there are lots
