i hope he tries to come back - for selfish reasons (my favourite player, still) and for him.

yes, the rehab will be hard. going through it again will be even harder. and no, i dont know exactly what it is like.

but he is 21, and if he doesnt go through that pain and torture again, there will always be a part of him that thinks 'what if i could have made a come back?'

the guy loves playing football, so if he feels that he can possibly comeback, i think he should go for it.

obviously, he will have all sorts of expert opinions on his chances, so he wouldnt make a blind decision based only on 'it will be hard', but i cant imagine much worse than living your life with 'what ifs'...

i said before gumbleton is 24 and played 8 more games only. he has time on his side, lets just hope he wants to put himself through it again.

at least we know the club will support him no matter what he chooses - thats very important in a situation like this.

Personally I think we should send him to Dr Andrews in the US, he's the best. Get him fixed up, then tell him we don't want to see him anywhere near the footy club till the end of the year. Not saying he should be kept away from his mates, or that he can't speak to the club if he needs support, but I feel like he just needs to go away, take the pressure off himself and his knees, forget about footy for a bit and come back fresh in mind and hopefully body.

I would also keep him in cotton wool for all of next year and build up gradually.

Really sad news for football watchers in general. A real talent hope to see him back on the park soon don't give up mate. Your luck has to change soon. Chin up and you'll be back out there doing what you love all the best :thumbsu:

Just heard the news and really feel for the young fellah. So cruel for Menz especially and the GFC and supporters.

A real talent who seems to keep getting the rough end of the pineapple.

This. On top of Varcoe'as ongoing injury saga.

Bloody frustrating and tragic.

Heard Balme on SEN tonight saying that while they would investigate everything possible, it would be unlikely that they would head overseas for surgery as we have terrific surgeons over here.

Wheres the apology from MD to Dr. Larkins?
Doubt we will see it.
Why should I apologise, he guessed and was correct.

How about Larkins apologise to the family's and supporters of Matthew Stokes, Michael Hurley, Ben Reid, just to name a few.

Apparently the Ox has had a chat with Menzel at some stage during the day according to Twitter.

Yep! Not sure how helpful it was but good of him to take the time.
"Do yourself a favour, get independent advice, and don't just listen to what the doctors at the club are saying," Schwarz told Melbourne radio station SEN on Monday evening.
"Just for your own sake, go and speak to another three or four more surgeons and soak in the information before you make a decision just on what they want.

"Clubs are 99 per cent are brilliant at giving the right advice. Just for your own sanity just go and explore every option.

"Then you make your decision," said Schwarz.

I know we've got some of the best knee specialists in the world here in Melbourne, but why not try to get some other experts to have a look at him? Given this is going to be his 4th knee op in 18 months and 4 incomplete games of footy, we can't leave any stone unturned.

The thing is this is the 4th time we have tried the rest, now it is time to try the absolute best. With the kicker being that Menz gets to get away from everything for 3-4 months get himself right mentally whilst over there as well as getting his knee looked after.

Oh I agree, it wouldn't hurt to go outside the square and I hope they continue the Max Rooke route in going to the best possible help for a repetitive injury.

let's just hope to god that young Vardy can also manage 50 or more games at least.

Be an extremely dull feeling to lose another prodigious talent at the moment.

Balme was on aw but after 1 question on Menzel, lloyd asked about vary, and BT then followed up with so given his injury history how long do you keep him on the list

BT also said in his team he would rather have jobe than selwood

Worst interview on aw the sen interview was excellent
