Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

Two old rucks, 30 + 31. Josh there for the premiership window. They can rest Josh properly so his knee recovers and then they have three seasoned rucks.

Re: Collingwood makes Darren Jolly offer

But in all seriousness, Roos' logic on wanting more than pick14 from the Pies dosnt add up. They gave pick 15 years back on a relatively unknown ruckman and it worked out for them. They got good milage out of him and a premiership. Now hes towards the end of his career, his 'better' days are past him and has maybe 3-4 years left to offer.
He has just hit career best form. He could easily get better next year and you could get 2-3 years out of a dominant ruckman. It could win you a premiership so I wouldn't worry about his age.

By Roos' logic, since Josh Fraser was 'unknown' and a risk at pick1 he would be worth a fortune...
My2c.
Your logic fails because Jolly is actually a good ruckman.

Re: Collingwood makes Darren Jolly offer

Your logic fails because Jolly is actually a good ruckman.

Yeah, GOOD, is the word to use here, he isn't great, he isn't a league leader, he isn't anywhere near as good as a Cox or Sandilands, or even a Mitch Clark.

Jolly is a good tap ruckman, who ultimately doesnt do a lot around the ground, especially compare to Clark and Cox.

Jolly is being over rated, yes, I would love him at Collingwood, but he isn't a superstar by any means, and has in fact been flattered by Sydney's stoppage style of play, which results in more ball ups and throw ins, thus more ruck contests.

Jolly is a good ruckman, not a great one, and thus, pick 14 is more then worthy of this trade, although it seems Collingwood might be willing to throw our 4th rounder in also.

If Sydney ask for any more, we will make a play for Mumford, who at 22, is as good at 22 as Jolly was, maybe better.

Re: Collingwood makes Darren Jolly offer

I have a sneaking suspicion that Sydney will settle for 14 plus some fringe player so they can use that to pick up Fev.

Re: Collingwood makes Darren Jolly offer

I don't recall calling him great. He's the 4th best ruckman in the game at the moment, so it's up to Collingwood if you think he could make a difference towards you premierships chances. I think he would be way more valuable for Hawthorn but we will wait and see. I'm hoping we can wrap up a deal quickly because we have put an offer in for Mumford apparently.

I dont think they can afford to pickup Fraser just to have him resting. Three ruckman in a team the way the game has changed is a big no no.

All good champ, we can agree to disagree. Id probably have Hamish McIntosh ahead of him, JUST. He is important enough though for us to chase to hopefully take us that one step further.
Mumford would be an interesting pickup if the Swans could land it.

I can't see both Gardiner and King going for more than another year and I believe they wouldn't mind playing McEvoy forward.

Porbably right that Josh won't get it done, but I don't think we should overspend on Lick Balls.

Yeah, McIntosh is probably about the same. Just ahead or just behind. I'm hoping Mumford will be our no.1 target to replace Jolly. Seaby + Mumford in rucks isn't too bad.

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

But don't most players going into the draft want to come to Collingwood EVERY year?

Stevens wanted Collingwood, Lockett, Gherig, Cousins. Everyone WANTS to come to Collingwood (for obvious reasons) but we never get anyone.

Hopefully this year is different, but I won't hold my breath.

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

Just a quick point,
Jolly is not worth pick 14 and a player.
If we were going to give a player to Sydney with pick 14 we would give them cook or stanley.
Collingwood is mad if they trade pick 14 and a talent for jolly.
Lets try and get him though but we have to make sure we dont get ripped off.

I dunno about Lockett (I think we said no?) and Gherig, but Stevens ended up going PSD for whatever reason. I imagine because we wouldn't have had a pick high enough to get him in the draft so it was irrelevant.
Cousins we decided not to go after, so it didn't matter where he wanted to go.

Re: Collingwood makes Darren Jolly offer

Aussie Gun whats the go with Dan Currie?

Seeing as you now have seaby and want Mumford and Pyke was used ahead of him this year, what stalled him?

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

I think she meant Fev.

So kissstephanie is a chick? I can't work it out, bf is misleading. Sometimes I look at your avatar and think you're a chick.

Sometimes I look at my avatar and think I'm a goldfish with a German accent.

I'm pretty sure he was injured for most of the second half of the season. There are more Swans posters on BF who have a better idea on what's happening in the reserves. I watched him play twice this year and he was used at FF and he looked pretty good. As far as his ruckwork goes I've barely seen him in the ruck. If he was fit he would have debuted in the 2nd half of the season most likely.
I'm not sure about Pyke as a player. As an athlete he is going to be excellent but as someone said before, you need footy smarts to be an A grade ruckman. Getting Mumford would be a good get. Hopefully pick 28 would be enough.

We said YES to Lockett. Graham Richardson (Mark Richardson's grandfather) said no because he wanted his grandson to get a game.

They needed a unanymous (did I spell that right?) decision to get Lockett. Leigh Matthews and Allan McAllister wanted him.

My point isn't whether we say no either. It's about the player WANTING to come to Collingwood.

All the ones I listed DID want to come to the Pies. As do most players.

Why wouldn't they?

- They get to play in front of at least 40k crowds weekly
- Good pay
- Worshipped like a god regardless of playing ability
- Get to live in Melbourne
- Play for one of the biggest clubs in Australia
- Top facilities
- Great player development systems in place

I am a chick and I have a secret fetish for East German Olympic ski-jumpers under the guise of a goldfish, so how you doing?

Haha, it is unanimous and yeah we are ****ing awesome, just look at me, I'm a product of the Collingwood Football Club and I'm virtually the second coming of Christ.

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

At the moment it seems no one is really interested in the Fev except us and we have put in a very low-ball bid of our second round pick. Expect a few to come in later in the week but Fev could find himself out of the game or at the Pies HAHAHAHAHA.

Seems no matter what the Suits at the Scum are saying, the playing group is adament he has to go.

In the end Jolly is still under contract so they don't have to trade him. I think Pick #14 may get it done in the end but if Sydney demand a player Collingwood will have to pay up or Jolly's final 2 years of contract will be used in Sydney.

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

How much would a player like Jolly be on?
What would we save by getting rid of Fraser?
Any ideas...

Re: Jolly committed to becoming a pie

Could be massive for us if it goes through (i hope it does).
Another thing i thought might be interesting if we get Jolly, is that it might allow us to use Fraser as a pure forward. In his early days was a better forward than ruckman who took good marks and kicked pretty straight. Hes body isnt up to it as a ruckman, but id love to test him out as a full forward with jack our second tall and travis worrying bout marks rather than goals.

Fraser is a worse forward than he is ruckman. He might have been decent in his stints earlier in his career, but he is currently a shit contested mark for someone of his height, and his mobility is shot to pieces with all his injuries. Nowhere near quick enough on a lead anymore to get the uncontested marks that he would require to be a success in the forward line.

If a good deal comes up we should trade him right now. Any value he has will be lessened at the end of next season when Jolly should he come becomes our number 1 ruckman.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: Leigh Brown will be kept as 3rd ruck option after JollyWood imo. We have missed having a big ruck presence since Monkey left, Jolly must be first priority.
