David Mundy of the Dockers wants to play for a Victorian club next year

LOL - Victoria IS a welfare state - always will be a net drain on the rest of Australia. The similarities with Norf's are amazing. VIC = no jobs, no future for its youth, but very happy to spend other peoples money. They have no sustainable plans for the future, except money drain on others. Perhaps NZ was the only smart colony, refusing to join the Vic/NSW dictatorship.

Anyway I would think GC would have dibs on Mundy if he goes anywhere - wait and see - Brad Hardies always has been a hack "reporter". Lets face it most footy "reporters" are the slime hanger-ons of footy industry.

In WA there's a common saying "if you really want to save the planet, kill a Vic a day" - all they do is take from all others in the world and contribute nothing
BHP Billiton: Headquarters Melbourne
RioTinto: Headquarters Melbourne.
Most of the money invested to extract those minerals has come from the east. Fact.

and btw no point quoting FMG. They only have Cloudbreak. (Christmas Creek I believe is still a way off)

WA's only fortunate feature is that it is virturally made of iron. Perth is a toilet of a place, full of people who need referendums and consultation of every single thing. This state was bitching about daylight savings for most of my 2 years there. With half the nuffies not realising your geographical location puts you at a further disadvantage as most of your business is harder to do when you're out of synch with the rest of the country.
How many consultations has the redevelopment of Subiaco gone through?

Good old Wait Awhile. Turn your clock back 2 hours your mind 50 years.

I said signifcant ammount, and yes I worked in the mines last 2 years. THe site I worked on was pretty much all kiwis.

I will say this, most of the people working with me were not intending to hang around for too long. WA is/has wasted a great chance to hang onto a lot of talented people. But that is part of the trouble when Perth is stuck in the 1950s

This is true. :D I cannot argue with this. Perth is the city that sleeps. We love our footy but!

Funny how this thread has turned into an East v West thing. Cracks me up. I am sure the demographic status of the mines will have a big influence on Mundy's choice of state.

Back on topic. Mundy is a fair chance to leave IMO. We will retain Pav. If he went to Vic that would be a better deal than the GC for us.
It would suck because we have basically carried him for years with him finally turning out a solid year.

Lol!

I remember someone rang up a radio station and complained that the extra hour of daylight, if daylight savings was introduced, would fade her curtains!

The arguments put up about extending trading hours are even more ridiculous. The "we need to protect small retailers" argument is laughable - IGA is a small retailer? They are a monopoly and charge monopoly prices. Bunnings is allowed to open on weekends - are they small?

Can't remember the referendum count in WA. From memory the only things that have got up at referendum was the right to give Aboriginals the vote (thank god!) and to ban the communist party (QLD/Tas voted yes, Vic/NSW/SA voted no). Thank god there are 6 states and enough sense in the rest of Australia to get other referendums up or the whole country would be stuck in the 50's.

What would Freo fans realisticly expect in return ? A pick in the 10-20 range ?

seeing as though hes probably as important now as Pav, i would say a top 10 pick or a pretty good player and a 10-20. He is one of the most underrated players in the comp.
But I guarantee he wont be going anywhere.

LOL - very very naive. Source of money is where it is sourced, not where a head office is, sure there is a lot of historical ownership of the bigger operators from the east - and the owners of the resources are? Eastern staters think it is Aust people, actually its not, its in the constitution as being endowed to the state governments for which the WA government earns resource royalties, and WA is only in the federation until it elects not to be - that is also in the constitution, the only Aust state that has the right to withdraw when it elects to.

As for geographic location and time zones, LOL - we are same timezones as major asian trading partners, and if you want to compare yourselves to economic timezones - the powers are 8-12 hours away from Melb timezone. As for business with rest of Australia - Vic trades with rest of Aust as its primary source of revenues (actually its government revenue as primary - handout state) WA's primary source has always been exports so we are alligned timewise with those we do the most trade.

All economic facts show Vic is a welfare-handout state.

Ha. A pick in the 1-10s more like it. Maybe even throw in a player too.

Seriously? Tarrant is a very good player.. but only has 1-2 years of footy left. I doubt any team is going to give up a top 10 pick for Tarrant.

Edit: wroung thread :D

Brad Hardie likes the shotgun approach, if he mentions every rumour no matter how fanciful then he will just say you heard it here first no matter how many zillions he gets wrong.

Burgoyne will be 29 next year, Mundy will be 26.
AA, close to the top of the tree for clearances this year, elite kick, elite durability (missed 2 games since debuting) but he's only worth 10 to 20 because some unknown 18 year old kid is going to be better?
I know most people take the piss around here but seriously?

My initial thought was something around 6-15. He has more footy left than Burgoyne for sure, but Burgoyne at his peak was better (Mundy probably hasn't reached his peak - that should be in the next 2 years). Mundy also seems to drop in and out of game a bit - but he can pull out some huge quarters and hurt the opposition.

His raw stats don't scream top 10 pick:

Stat - Average - Rank in League
Disposals - 22.7 - 54th
Kicks - 11.0 - Not in Top 100
Handballs - 11.7 - 43rd
Tackles - 5.0 - 59th
First possessions - 5.4 - 25th
Contested Possessions - 8.8 - 80th
Clearances - 4.0 - 33rd
Effective Disposals - 15.4 - 90th (Disposal Efficiency - 68%)
Inside 50s - 3.4 - 72nd
Long Kicks - 4.8 - 67th

That said, he was the second best midfielder in a good team. I was surprised by his low disposal efficiency, as when he gets the ball, good things usually happen.

However, he is probably best suited to being the second best midfielder in the team (or rather, not being the main inside clearance player). After Barlow went down, Mundy had to take on more responsibility at the clearances and his average disposals and clearances both dropped (23.3 to 21.6 and 4.5 to 3.1). His disposal efficiency also dropped significantly without Barlow (by 2.4 eff. disp. per game) - but his contested possessions and 1st possessions both increased slightly.

So if he went to a club with an already established clearance king, he'd be the icing on the cake - a guy who can get clearances as well as set up play in open space. If a club wants to get a ready made clearance machine to take the no 1 tag and build a midfield around, he probably isn't the guy.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone have a ping with a pick around 8-12 if he is the type they need (maybe Essendon or Melbourne?).

Without wanting to get drawn into a meaningless interstate slanging match, I would suggest this remark is untrue, simplistic (naive perhaps?;)) and inflammatory. I would also point out Freo has 14 Victorians on its list, including Mundy.

It would suck because we have basically carried him for years with him finally turning out a solid year.
I know he's stepped it up but he's been a pretty good player for more than just this year hasn't he?

No to mention the competition they joined.

Off you go then. The AFL would love it: finally we'd be an international sport.:p

If Mundy was on the market Hawthorn would be desperate for him. Not sure how they do a trade or fit him into the cap though. Brown might be a pivital piece of nthe puzzle. Wouldn't that be ironic!

You will find that my team will be a bit of a player in this saga. Birdie told me a week ago. Watch this space.

If he does decide to leave then I hope there are a few Vic clubs involved. We might get fair compensation then. Would hate to see him go the the GC for pick 20 odd

Think about it, coming off your best season, AA nomination - Why wouldnt your manager try and get some more cash by pressuring fremantle into thinking they have to fight for you. He'll stay, just with a larger sum of money to his name.

Relevence?

Meaning no Vic clubs will be able to use the PSD #1 pick as a threat.

I doubt he'll leave anyway. These are the same people who told us he was leaving last contract time and that Sandi was going to Hawthorn last year. And the same people who tell us Pav is leaving every time his contract is up for renewal.
