News is hard to swallow...

Free agency it will have to be then. :(

Rename thread David Swallow to North (Late 2018, as FA)

I'll play devil's advocate. And naive less-than-zero carer of opposition teams. What does he provide, when fit, that isn't provided by a current player at his best? Or by a highly-anticipated future prospect? Aside from a brotherly connection ...

Reckon it's a North brother fetish. The Krakouer brothers left us hungry for more of that fraternal magic, making us fanatics in the quest for any chance to bring together brothers in the blue and white stripes. Problem being that recent attempts - Harveys, Stevenses, Motlops, Delaneys - haven't got within a bull's roar of the Krakouers, usually with one a champion and the other, well think Shane Harvey. But with Spitta and Dribbles (as a former number 1 seed) the odds of reliving those golden days are higher.

North Melbourne - the brothers club. ;)

Yep. Don't forget Benjamin Warren and Warren Benjamin.

Let's be honest here about David, for a number 1 pick he hasn't really shown a lot. We've set the foundations in our midfield now. If we were to get him it would be a bonus but he isn't the be all and end all for us.

Especially given what GC would want in return.

You North lot are quite obsessive. Hang In there

PS I own Dave Swallows first AFL from 2010 match worn guernsey. Place your bid...
Yeah mate you're right about that,,,,,37 cents for that jersey, if it's not blue and white, don't want it!

Maybe we're discussing the wrong 'brother'? Luke's brother, Jack for 2016. ;) :thumbsu:

Edit: It would involve, of course, expunging the red and black darkness from his soul, but I'm confident the blue and white stripes can cleanse him.

But Gold Coast is facing unprecedented challenges to retain a quartet of future stars, including premier midfielders Harley Bennell and David Swallow, key-position tall Sam Day and half- forward Brandon Matera.

North Melbourne has long been a suitor for Perth-born No.1 draft pick Swallow, whose brother Andrew is the Kangaroos’ skipper.

5. David Swallow (Gold Coast, age 21)

Was less than thrilled at playing off a half back last year, but has been given a midfield role already this year. Again, everyone would want this former no. 1 pick, who isn’t committing to the Gold Coast yet. North Melbourne have always been desperate for him, with Port Adelaide keen given his links with Ken Hinkley. Of course the Perth clubs would love to lure him home. Will see how early rounds play out despite early talks.

COMBAT footballer David Swallow’s position on the Suns’ frontline has been secured until the end of 2017.

The 21-year old has accepted the offer of a new three-year deal worth about $1.5m that will see him leapfrog skipper Gary Ablett on the club’s pay scale next season.

With Ablett’s annual income set to dip below $400,000 in 2015, the final season of his heavily front-loaded five year deal, Swallow will become one of the club’s biggest earners when his new contract begins next season.

There were newspaper reports last week that the Suns were facing a battle to retain the services of the former No.1 draft pick.

Both clubs from his home state of Western Australia as well as North Melbourne, where his brother Andrew is captain, have expressed interest.

Swallow spent the past few days on the Sunshine Coast with his parents Ian and Alice pondering his future.

He returns to the club today and will sign the contract in the coming days. Coach Guy McKenna said the commitment from the in-demand midfielder was a massive boost for the club ahead of their fourth season in the AFL.

“It is a great sign of faith for him to invest back into the football club,” he said.

“It paints a good picture for the rest of the young players that the club is going in the right direction.”

Swallow plays with almost peerless aggression at the contest and there has barely been a cheap possession in the 51 games he has played at AFL level.

McKenna describes Swallow as the ultimate combat footballer and freely admits he wishes the 21-year-old would occasionally sit outside the contest and collect an easy possession.

He compared Swallow to his former premiership captain at West Coast, John Worsfold, considered one of the hardest men to ever play the game.

“David is very unique, you get very few combative footballers like that, he has already left a mark on the competition and he certainly makes life a lot easier for his team mates,” he said.

“I played alongside a bloke that was fairly rugged on a half back flank, Junior (Swallow) is just like him but he does it in the midfield.

“I remember trying to play like John Worsfold once and it took me three weeks to get over it.

“Junior does that every week.”

Swallow’s competitiveness, professionalism and selfless acts on the footy field have made him a popular and greatly respected member of the club and, despite being softly spoken and a reluctant media performer, he was recently elevated, along with Tom Lynch and Dion Prestia, to the leadership group as a vice-captain.
