Scotty Clayton said on SEN that they never considered Cloke & won't do in the future. Strange logic on a purely playing issue.

Maybe John Ralph was correct in that the real reason why they won't deal with Cloke is his father, David.

Cloke is worth 375-400K. A 35-40 goal a year KPF with accuracy of 30% (including OOB and complete misses) isn't worth more that. We were over paying him the last few years and he only deserves more when is able to improve his accuracy and gets above 45 goals a year.

The main thing we can learn from this though is his dad just needs to STFU
Hmm, you say what he is worth then claim we were over paying the last 3 years, what exactly do you think he was on?

If Travis had held out last time he would have been earning 100k a season more most likely

But if there is a salary cap squeeze and that is keeping Clokes offer down then you have to wonder just why the hell did we chase Tarrant? I assume he isnt playing for peanuts and seeing as he was on a bit more than Travis on his last contract then unless he has taken a massive pay cut he must be causing these salary cap issues.

Of course should someone leave this year or next we know no one would dare blame Taz....

1. Tarrant won't be on big money
2. Next year he will be on our veterans list so 50% of his wage won't come under salary cap.

This is the main reason we went for him I'm sure.

Cloke has been overpaid in his last contract. If we continue to do this , we won't be able to keep all the other key players when their contacts expire.

No one wants rid of Cloke, but he must take a pay cut.

1. Amazing if true, he says no to every other club who could offer him good money and comes to Collingwood on peanuts? Hard to imagine for someone who has never earnt less than 450k a year for about the last 8 years...

2. Which means the squeeze next year comes on one of our other long term veterans who stuck with us and worked hard to turn their games around the last 4 years

He was far from overpaid, he was underpaid in his last contract and thats why he wont take a pay cut

Could we get a couple days without a major Collingwood issue since we won the flag?

in regards to this contract, the club has to look at the big picture. We cant afford to give Travis a big contract with so many players coming off the books in 2011 and 2012. This could really hurt us long term. In saying that losing Travis would be a massive blow.
Travis needs to look at the big picture, take a little less right now and keep this team together like Brisbane did when they had their run.

The deal will be done its just how much and how long.

Also EddieSmith your Tarrant bashing is going a bit too far right now. You probably were againt getting Leroy Brown as well.

Nope, Leigh Brown was what about 5 years younger than Tarrant and probably cost us about 400k a year less
Do you actually know how much Tazza will be on or are you just guessing over the odds?

The Tazza deal will do stuff all to our cap lol.

Yet 100k difference to Travis Cloke will apparently totally screw up our cap....

It would be hard to see Tarrant taking more than 100k pay cut, if any at all so he is getting more than Cloke is

Hm, guys I'm not sure but I think eddiesmith doesn't like us getting Tarrant. I think I'll read some more hysterical nonsense before I'm sure though.

I will be devisated if we don't re-sign Trav, but if we don't there are always postivies such as the higher chance of keeping swan,pendles,daisy..

yeah I am writing a bit of nonsense, its some crazy idea of mine that I want to see Collingwood win more than 1 premiership, but obviously thats not the thinking of everyone else. Its much more romantic to think we can bring back some old favourites and let them play with some premiership heroes so then everything will be right with the world. Lets ignore the fact that our premiership team was built from the day we finally dumped them

I am looking forward to draft day and us picking up N.Buckley. A.Rocca, S.Burns :)

Basically what you're saying is we wouldn't have won a flag with Buckley, Rocca or Burns in the side.
Well done.

I suppose you could twist it that way

But no doubt this side was built once we removed those older players and newer, younger players stood up and took their spots and the team worked better.

It would destroy everything built to suddenly turn around and bring back the older blokes, we did so well removing all the dead wood from the team this year and they have all now retired, then we bring back Taz...

Usually when you win a premiership and you feel you need to add some depth you dont go for highly paid 30 year olds who have 20 games left in them...

"What do you mean I'm being hysterical!? All I'm saying is that our premiership window is now closed because we recruited one 30+ player one week after we just won the flag! How is that unreasonable!? WE'RE ALL DOOMED, TARRANT IS THE DESTROYER OF PREMIERSHIPS"

If he takes his spot in the 22 every week apparently filling every position on the park he is such a gun then yeah we probably wont win another flag and thats not hysterical or unreasonable, its just seeing things without the rose coloured glasses

But I am so glad to see all of Tarrants fans are full of hot air, I thought they were all tearing up their memberships 4 years ago, amazing what a flag can do...

Eddiesmith, go lie down and take a breather you are talking so much shit it isn't funny. I'm going to tell you a secret here, I didn't want us to get Tarrant either, I thought all our back 6 did a great job over the finals and woud prefer to stick with them given their youth.

But now we've got him, and it's not really a big deal. Tarrant is an A grade defender, he was in All Australian form last year before his injury and he will be played as our substitute meaning he's not even going to be on the ground for half the game anyway! Tarrant is atter player than Goldsack, you think we're going to lose games next year because Goldsack isn't in the side? Really?

Yes, you're being hysterical, yes you're being unreasonable and yes you've totally flipped your lid over an issue that is so tiny, so preposterously small, such an incredible non issue that you're making yourself look like an absolute fool to everyone who clicks this thread. Settle down and log off, Tarrant WILL improve our side next year, undeniable, undisputable fact and we got him cheap as chips there is absolutely nothing to complain about.

^^^^ What he said. Also on Cloke's contract vs Tarrant's and the cap issue, maybe, just maybe the fact that Tarrant's second year will be on the vets list and hence only half counting in the cap is the difference. In 2012 when Sheedy has his fat cheque book out throwing huge figures and Pendles, Swan and only half of Tarrant's wage will be counted in the cap on the other hand Cloke's whole contract will be counted.

As for your little hissy fit about our other vets who have worked hard being shafted by us getting Taz back who on our list will be veteran list eligible that will be robbed by Taz?

The depth players that we've lost all were around 30 years of age and were struggling to get a game when the crunch time came. Tazza has been in the All-Australian form last few years and loves the Club. I can see you're frustrated with our "treatment" of Clokey but the recruitment of Tarrant has nothing to do with it.

Assuming Presti doesnt go on then it will be Johnson and Davis and if Presti keeps playing then obviously him as well, it wouldnt be out of question for Presti to keep going as with Brown and Reid cementing their spots he can play a few games here and there and be in great shape.

See I have no issue with them replacing depth players with depth players with experience, I do though with everyone now suddenly claiming he will jump into the team at the expense of our young stars

I think you will find its Reid's and Brown's position to lose. If they drop in form then Tarrant can step in and Tarrant can play in the side with those blokes as a utility and fit in somwhere as he can play both ends.
If your worried about him walking in and taking someones spot immediately then you are worrying about nothing mate. It wont work like that

I'd love to see a horses for courses policy prevail. It held us in good stead this year.
Taz could possibly be a very good model for Jack too.

I'm pretty keen to see Krakouer in action as he sounds as he has all the attributes.

Come on NAB Cup.:thumbsu:

Presti, if he does stay on will almost certainly be a depth / mentor / vfl player. Unless you want to drop out "young star" full back who smashed Riewoldt in back to back grand finals for Presti.

Before you ask how Tarrant can fit into the same side as Brown and not Presti, the answer is simple Tarrant can play on smaller more mobile fowards, neither of Brown or Presti can.

Even if Presti and Leon go on there is no way they would be on big coin, and whilst BJ stayed at the club over the time Tarrant was away he was hardly a great club servant in those 4 years.

You plain don't like the guy for one reason or another that is your call. I wasn't fussed either way, in fact to start off with I didn't want him either but your arguements as have been mentioned by many before are childish and stupid.

Highly doubt Carlton would be interested. I know Col Kinnear relatively well, used to be the Football Manager at Carlton. Thinks David's name is absolute mud at Carlton, was a big reason why Cameron was delisted. Apparently he used to complain to Ratten about Cameron's role at the club, so much so that the club told him to hit the road.

Find this all amazing. Travis is a terrific players and from all accounts a good person. His Dad is a very poor player manager who's putting his sons career out for all to see. Travis is worth roughly around the numbers that are being put up.

But the part about this that I find unbelieveable is this comment by David in today Sun. "All we're asking is for a fair and reasonable deal for him". Well, when Travis had the trouble in Noosa that clearly affect him, did he take a pay cut? Since winning the Copeland, in 2007, Travis hasn't set the world on fire.

Perhaps idol threats make good copy, but when taken in context over the life of the previous contract, even a very sympathetic employer starts to question when enough is enough. One wonders if Travis's career might end early with the current manager he has in place...
