Dear Collingwood - Do what you must to ensure Trav signs on

Sorry, haven't read all the thread, but I wonder why we didn't offer Trav a three year deal.

He's 23 and you'd expect, still improving. His marking and strength was awesome this year.

Was it a slap not to offer three years? Especially knowing his manager was his dad, a very proud and stubborn man, who'd seen two previous sons cut away by the Pies?

Cloke senior hasn't covered himself in glory obviously, but are the Pies also a bit to blame here??

I'd have been tempted to try and tie him up for three at least.

... See I have no issue with them replacing depth players with depth players with experience, I do though with everyone now suddenly claiming he will jump into the team at the expense of our young stars
Who cares what "everyone" is "now suddenly claiming". Does Taz himself expect "...he will jump into the team at the expense of our young stars"?

This is what he said about that - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/tarrant-a-magpie-once-more-20101011-16g22.html
'' ... I know I have to break into a premiership side, and I know there's some great players there, and I'm starting from outside the 22 and that I have to work my way into that 22. So I'm under no illusions that it's a big task for me, and a task I'm really looking forward to.''
So if Taz doesn't think he'll just be given games at the expense of other, but will instead have work hard and earn his spot, I don't see any reason for anyone else to think otherwise.

1. Cloke will stay at collingwood, they just have to work out a deal, they should offer him more money based on how many goals he kicks, as his kicking efficiency is shocking, but boy can he take a contested mark! and we would rather a shot/chance at goal then not one at all.

2. tarrant was a good pick up, injurys can happen at anytime, if brown or reid go down we have tarrant for back up, i am also sure they will throw him up forward, from what i can remember tarrant was a great contested marker but average shot at goal, he is a very handy pick up, collingwood know what they are doing by picking him up!

3. if cloke needs to take a pay cut he should, in the next 3 years we will know if he is goign to be that great player or now, if he does turn into that player give him his pay rise when his new contract is finished, GELLONG/BRISBANE all took pay cuts to keep their premiership teams together and it was very succesful the cats winning 2 out of 3 and lions 3 out of 4, we have ALOT of young players coming up who are goign to be good, we need to be able to keep them all for 3-4 years while we are in our prime, once our reign is over and they are all around the 20-26 year old mark if they want higher money let them be traded away, after our REIGN OF TERROR IS OVER!

Every time I read comments by David Cloke about Travis nominating for the preseason draft just makes my blood boil. David Cloke is a ****head. We can win another premiership without Travis so don't really care if we don't sign him up at all now. I actually hope we get rid of the spudelicious goal kicker.

Trav just needs to weigh up if the dollars are more important.
At the end of the day a footballer's career is approximately 10 years. They must maximise the dollars during that period.

I hope he stays for what we've offered, and he tells his dad to **** off!

yeah I am writing a bit of nonsense, its some crazy idea of mine that I want to see Collingwood win more than 1 premiership, but obviously thats not the thinking of everyone else. Its much more romantic to think we can bring back some old favourites and let them play with some premiership heroes so then everything will be right with the world. Lets ignore the fact that our premiership team was built from the day we finally dumped them

I am looking forward to draft day and us picking up N.Buckley. A.Rocca, S.Burns :)

Eddie you know the family, what's going on?

Can't see him leaving, he wants to stay, simple as that, his dad is just doing what he does.

Exactly, he wants to stay, the manager is doing whats best for his client. Reality is he was probably underpaid for the last 3 years, of course 2 of them were poor so it probably worked out but he found some form again this year and really as he is coming to the best period most likely for a footballer they wont want a further cut in his price dropping away from his true value

It'll work out, the same threats are around at every contract, but them not offering the 3 years is what hurts the most imo, atleast then it would be 3 years before they have to deal with it again :D

he was offered a 3 year deal but the clokes want a 2 year deal as they believe he will be worth more once free agency starts, as cloke would have already played for 8 years. sorry guys i cant remember where i read it, but it was definitely an article somewhere on the afl, herald sun or age website

Really because David said exactly the opposite, they wanted 3 years but Collingwood only offered 2...

Travis is important, but lets remember how good Fev was - yet Carlton was shit....St Kilda and Roo - getting too player conscious is a bad thing.

I see it now in the past few weeks, bomb it long and hope Trav gets on the end of it. It's a rubbish way of going about things.

I'd rather players look for the opportunities like we did years ago when players like Didak and Medhurst were tearing it up
