Brad Hill?

I think it was major mistake not taking him over Newman.

A couple of things.

Brad Hill was never soft, certainly a harder nosed player than his brother as a junior and secondly Newman was and is vastly more talented "footballer". It wasn't even a contest and if our recruiters had to make a decision today they'd make the same one again.

Of course they would, because they'd be wrong

You don't know what you're talking about. :thumbsu:

You really think if they had their chance again and knew what they know now that they'd still pick Newman over Hill? Newman may not even be on our list next year while Hill has performed well for a possible premiership team. Infact he's played better then well, he's now an important cog in their team in just his 2nd year.

I still reckon we should be talking to GWS or GC about trading thier first pick for Waters or Rosa. If they (GSW & GC) wont go for it then fair enough, but i'd be at least trying because i believe if we get some really good mids for the trade, then we wouldnt be disadvantaged by trading one of them, or both even. I'd delist McGinnity as well. Pick up some size, speed & skill in the draft and get them playing as soon as they are ready. We need to be a bit ruthless now or we will waste the good talent we have on the list at the moment and will have to do a full rebuild which means years of more pain.

I'm not really into Hartung. Smaller outside types are the first type of players to be approached with skepticism.

Thought he was quite good at Champs and has backed it up with solid TAC form. However his size was my biggest concern also and hard to know if he will translate to AFL level. Certainly has some nice attributes though. 16+ Beep and great pace is always good.

I really want a motlop or rioli type player running through our midfield.. feel like someone like Impey or Wilson could be this, but could be a slight reach on our 2nd pick.

One's playing in a Grand Final and the other is about to be delisted. It's not even close.

This gets thrown around every year. There's a reason we dont and it's because those 2 wouldnt come close to getting the number 1 pick

I'm not talking number one pick, but surely one of those clubs or any of the clubs that are struggling such as Melbourne would be interested in getting an experienced defender to help shore up thier defense (talking about Waters here) and therefore may have another higher pick we can use to pick up whoever slides out of Bontempelli, Acres etc. Its worth an ask. If you dont ask you dont get, so i'd be talking to clubs with a draft pick inside the ten or just outside to see what we can get. After all, according to most on here, Waters is an absilute gun AA defender that everyone would want in thier side. :)

Not McGinnity. He is reliable and can play a role - more than can be said for many of them. I would like to see him play a shut-down role in defence sometimes too.
After watching Morton in WAFL GF I wouldn't be upset if he was cut. Newman strong possibility. Ash Smith traded out??

Sorry what's the role he is reliable at?

He plays 4 roles:

1. Defensive forward - he plays this ok, at times but his lack of positional awareness means he's not exactly lock down. He's minimal threat when we have the ball;

2. Defensive mid - same problems with positional sense. He's a very modest lock down mid with zero real hurt factor going the other way;

3. Awful defender. No poise. No positional sense. Good for 2 or 3 brain farts a game that cost goals ...

4. Bench - quite competent. Should be there more.
