Author doesn't have the best track record, it's fair to say.

He's very specific about Lycett's deal though. Says it's already signed and with the AFL's salary cap people for approval.

Oh crap - didn't see it was Hackdorn - The Australian's website fooled me with their faux-credibility.

Does seem rather specific though.

What would it take for GWS to trade congilio? If we were certain to be able to grab waterman with our third I would trade our second pick and Selwood or Masten for him.

I don't believe Coniglio's value has increased from his draft selection at pick 2, so when he comes out of contract at the conclusion of 2015, and if WC have a pick in the top 7, they should only offer their 1st round pick if Coniglio is inclined to come to WC.

GWS won't like it, but they won't have much of a choice if Coniglio wants out.

Seems like a mature kid, who has had to do it tough. Really respect his willingness to improve himself and strive to achieve a dream for the sake of his kids.

My comment wasn't really about Shannon Taylor the footballer. Shannon 'The Bulli Blaster' Taylor is an Aussie boxer of yesteryear who loved hitting up the coke.

When's coniglio's contract up?
By that stage GWS will be signing their kids up for their 2nd contracts left right and centre. Good time to pounce.

Pretty sure Coniglio and many of the 'kids' have already signed their 2nd contracts, this is the 3rd year the Giants have been in the comp and draftees (except rookies) all get an initial 2 year contract.

With the Giants and the Suns if they don't start making tangible improvement and start pushing for finals then those kids in their 4th > 5th season will start thinking about moving to chase success. That and the salary cap to manage will provide a fair bit of player movement from the two expansion sides.

We need these sides to struggle for success.

I've played with him before, absolute gun I have no idea why he doesn't have more hype apparently Sydney have been having a pretty close look for a while now, since he was fiteeen. He is so athletic and I've seen him play against Jarrod Pickett and he made pickett look second class....

Another player that is just astonishing is Jermaine Miller-Lewis...

I hope the Eagles are listening...

Why doesn't it surprise me that Sydney have been keeping an eye on him? And why don't we ever hear this about the Eagles?

I can not remember ever hearing that the Eagles have been "keeping an eye" on anyone like I have heard numerous times about Sydney. It is no wonder they pick so many diamonds out of the rough and we miss more than we hit with our selections. :(

Just because you don't hear about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Besides with the father-son academy we've established it has shown we are identifying some talents early and nurturing from a young age.

Watching TAC Cup Future Stars (no idea why), but Terry Wallace has just gone through a massive exercise of ranking every side's recruiting since 2001 and put us ... 16th out of 16.

It's based on his arbitrary assigning of points to players and doesn't take into account how many picks/players clubs bring in each year, but still it's a fairly interesting and damning result.

A Pickett and Gartlett draft would nice.

Would rather we get Pickett and Brendon Abbott first though.

I really feel we need Pickett's elite pace, even though there are weaknesses to his game.

Also want Mitchell McGovern especially if he can be developed as a 193cm midfielder.

Abbott is a perfect fit for us, this kid wants to play for us and is prepared to knuckle down and get really fit.

I think he will make a real impact at AFL level, thank god the club is showing as much interest in the kid, as he is in us.

Have you heard of WCE aboriginal leadership acadmey ?
They have been running it every year for the last 3 years.
Its for the best aboriginal 16 year old's that have shown leadership glimpses
They spend a couple of weeks at the club learning, and given stuff to do throughout the year.
Apart from helping develop better people, it also gives wce a close look a young exciting talent.
I believe Sam Pretreski Seton went through it this year, and this is a kid you will be hearing heap's about in a couple of years.
He is a Harley Bennell level talent.

RE whilst I like your thinking I am not 100% sold on Pickett the fact that he rarely get contested possessions and the fact that he only works one way ( ie he doesn't have a defensive bone in his body ) these are areas of serious concern for me.

I just think he will take quite some time to round out all the facets of the game that he is going to need at the next level.

I am biased but a I do like the Abbott and McGovern suggestions .

FiveStrings, did you happen to hear who Wallet rated Number 1 and where did he rate Richmond?

I don't disagree with Wallet's rating. Without knowing exactly who was/is pulling the list strings - IMO we have missed out with too many draft picks beyond our first rounders, our rookie drafting has been ordinary and our trading unspectacular. Sure we have a few wins but by and large they are like 'hens teeth'

Thanks Royal Eagle. That makes me feel a bit better. Now, if we only had exclusive access to those players like the NSW and QLD clubs, life would be sweet.

He only did 13th to 16th this week.

Bulldogs were 13th, North and Melbourne were 14th and 15th but not necessarily in that order.

Abbott and McGovern is just typical pro-Claremont talk. Abbott doesn't even look like a draftable prospect. Sure he has kicked a few goals but he doesn't find much of the ball, makes plenty of mistakes and lacks composure. We don't need another mid-sized forward and as a defender I wouldn't even consider him. And talk of McGovern as an AFL midfielder is just insane.

There's no way we've done worse than Melbourne.

He just assigned points values to every recruit and added them up. We would have turned over our list a lot less than Melbourne since 2001 so presumably they'd finish ahead of us on sheer weight of numbers. Not exactly a scientific method by Wallet.

So you think abbott's at the level to justify a 2nd rounder?

I reckon we'll spend it on waterman anyway, so then I guess the qu is whether he'll still be there for out 3rd.

As I keep saying RE, it's great to have pace, but not if you run over the top of the ball or don't chase. His weaknesses are very large for a projected first round pick, IMO. I know, all players have weaknesses.
