Fremantle board mentioning the possibility of them getting Darling off us. I don't think this would ever happen but what would be a fair trade if it did?

My face when reading that whole thread:

So much facepalm all throughout that thread.

One poster said Darling is built like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Another one suggested a straight swap of Sheridan for Darling.

Are they really that deluded/stupid?

It's not like we haven't got some of that stuff ourselves though sadly :/

"Rosa is worth a top 10 pick for sure" .. "We got ripped off BIG TIME with Wellingham at 18" etc

Just reading up on young Garlett, was thinking he may be a good get but if the followings on the money then I'm still a bit up in the air about WC giving him a crack although the 1yr rookie contract may be a good option.

WILL DAYLE GARLETT GET A CHANCE?
It's hard to say right now. He only needs one club to call his name to get a chance, after being very publicly overlooked last year, but many remain dubious. That's largely to do with his perceived lack of discipline off the field, but it's important to note that he is very much a work in progress as a footballer, too.
Garlett has exceptional skill and creativity, and has shown both at senior level in WA. But he doesn't yet have the endurance to play in the midfield and, as a forward, doesn't show a natural inclination to chase, tackle and harass.
Combine that with the off-field stuff, and and he's no certainty at all to get a go this year. He wants a shot, he's played well, he has some fierce defenders at Swan Districts and he has made some important changes to his life this year, settling down somewhat, losing weight, becoming fitter and limiting the partying.
In his favour is the fact that there aren't all that many dynamic players in this year's group, but it was disappointing to hear that he didn't show for one of his club interviews this week.
His best chance might be with one of the few clubs taking more than three or four picks, or as a rookie, in which case clubs would have to give him only a one-year contract and he'd arrive knowing that if he mucks up once, he'll be gone.

They obviously don't know much about Jack Darling , he surely doesn't play like Jane and can look after himself , I'd be surprised if he left Eagles

While we would never trade them Darling, by god would he be perfect for their system.
Applies great defensive pressure and tackling, has a big engine and absolutely gallops on the counter attack- three hallmarks of the way they play. The fact that Freo don't usually rely on key forwards leading inside 50 would cover up his contested marking weakness too.

That's estibador . He doesn't actually think that, but likes to throw in pointless anti Eagle sniping. When you privately like something you shouldn't you often go out of your way to publicly attack it.

He sent me a heartbreaking video message about his conflicted position.

Would be a bit reluctant to trade Rosa personally given our depth on the wing.

Gaff is good of course, but when he's tagged we need good alternatives on the outside.
Wellingham I think is better in the guts or on a HFF, but will likely be rotating between all three positions.
Dalziell I don't rate very highly. Decent cover but too limited to be in the 22. Doesn't seem to be able to put in a defensive job given his lack of pace and strength, and is otherwise very suspect defensively in open play.
Sheppard is approaching a crossroads and in any case should not be relied upon.
Morton- see Sheppard.
Embley has retired.

Unless Rosa desperately wants out, we have designs to play Yeo on the wing or we draft say Acres or Bontempelli and start them out on a wing, I really don't think we can afford to lose Rosa. Other than Gaff he's the only suitably proficient and reliable full-time option we have on the wing. Would rather we cash in one of our many HBFers if we're looking to make periphery trades for 3rd round picks.

Re: Blake Acres.
Kawalsky's post on the D+T board.
Pre shoulder surgery combine results from WA testing at ECU Cowan University
20m sprint 2.94 sec
Agility 8.28 sec
Standing vertical 69 cm
Running vertical jump (r) 80cm
Running vertical jump (l) 92cm
Repeat sprint 21.51 sec
Beep test 15.2
No 3 km was tested
188cm
83.7 kg
Result from ECU

AFL combine. 4 weeks post surgery/rehab.
20m sprint 3.05 sec
Agility test. Didn't test
Standing jump : ?
running vertical jump (r): ?
Running vertical jump (l) :?
Repeat sprint 25.16 sec
Beep test 13.1
3 km 11.15
190.2 cm
Result from TeamWA facebook page

Big difference in results from the start of the WAFL season to now but that what you would expect after an injury and not being able to train.
Post result would have got him equal 5th in the beep test, equal 7th in the sprint, 8th in the agility, 1st in the repeat sprint, 2nd in the running vertical (l), 10th in running vertical (l) and just outside ths top 10 in the standing jump.
Would have been interesting to see what a full uninterrupted season of training and playing would have resulted in.
Very impressive numbers.

I've been saying it for ages...

Garlett kicked 4. He has so much talent but he's just so inconsistent in intensity, discipline and pressure. It's noticeably and frustratingly lacking far too often. I wouldn't draft him unless he shows a major improvement in these facets.
Like last year, his skills are incredible. However, his defensive game and discipline aren't WAFL league standard let alone AFL standard. He plays due to his outstanding ability but in the AFL system where that isn't so outstanding...

He's a very flawed player.

Regardless of his nous for kicking goals, a small forward who doesn't chase, doesn't provide defensive pressure and is suspect under physical pressure, is not going to make it at AFL level.

If he gets drafted and turns it all around, good on him, but I haven't seen signs to suggest that will occur.

All true, but of course the same things could be said of Josh Hill once upon a time (although Josh Hill had far better fitness than Garlett has presently).
Would be worth it on a rookie contract but little more. I think once Bennell, Tunbridge and McGovern are upgraded we'll have 5 spots left on the rookie list so plenty of room to take a risk on Garlett.
