Thanks for clarifying.

At least a hand injury shouldn't affect running which means there shouldn't be a major impact on training loads. Could be worse.

So cockatoo could be gone top 10. That is very interesting considering how the consensus is we would be reaching to take him at 11.
Yea I think a hand is generally 8 weeks, I think thats about how long Yeo was out for. Apperantlly a lot of clubs have interviewed him but if he's taken before us it'll be GWS

Unfortunately the bolters all seem to be mids atm, and the sliders are all talls

Agree. This would be the worst-case scenario:

1. Petracca
2. McCartin
3. Brayshaw
4. Pickett
5. Laverde
6. DeGoey
7. Cockatoo
8. Duggan
9. Moore
10. Weller

Who would we take then? Lever or Wright? Who is the next best mid - Garlett or Ellis or someone?

With mccartin likely to be taken by Melbourne, collingwood committed to taking Moore and GWS almost a certainty to take at least one tall worst case scenario is that 7 mids/flankers will be gone by our pick

Petracca
Brayshaw
Laverde
Pickett
Degoey
Weller
Cockatoo
Duggan
Ahern

Means at least two of those will be available with Ahern the only one of those I'm iffy on. All of the others I'd be happy with

That would suck. Don't know much about Lever but I guess out of those you have to pick Wright. Let's hope it Dosnt come to that

Wce would take a tall I think .
I like the mobility of Durdin who plays CHF /Chb and can ruck as well .
So Durdin at 11. For me if the picks fall that way .

Yeah I'm not too sure who would be best. Candidates would be Wright, Lever, Goddard and Durdin.

Surely one of those four would have to go top ten though.

It's a very interesting draft this year, very up in the air.

I am not sure why there is all this angst about selecting Duggan he may lack express pace but that's not the only serious deficiency that we have.

For a team that in the main has very substandard kicking skils I would have thought Duggan would have been a serious upgrade .

Duggan provide an improvement in an area of need.

What's not to like !?

Sure a quick mid with elite footskills would be nice .... But there are none that are going to be a available for us to take at pick 11.

Besides raw pace is only of benefit if you can use it to your advantage......case in point see Ash ( The Flash ) Smith .

Give me a kid with a high footy IQ who is a good decision maker and has very good foot skills any day over a speedster which a shyte house kick .

Using your logic - there is no reason to take Duggan over Blakely. Blakely had higher DE% despite being more inside. He wins more of the ball and is just as professional with an excellent footy IQ. Duggan might be bottom aged but Blakely has grown 3cm since he played u18s so is still physically improving.

Masto I don't have a problem with taking Blakely.

Rather I was just commenting on the apparent displeasure of some posters of the prospect of taking Duggan.

I had heard the growth spurt rumour about Blakely , so is he now 189 cm ? Is that what you have heard ?

If say at least two of those talls will be top 10 , Geelong or Collingwood would take Lever I feel .

That is correct. His brother is 195cm so there is a worry that he keeps growing and becomes too big to be a midfielder.

Thanks for that update .

Lever you would imagine because he has the scope to play midfield.

Fair logic - how would you rate Blakely in terms of footy smarts? Duggan has shown this in 2014 Blakely looked reasonable to me but hopefully you someone has seen more games.

I think his footy smarts largely account for his high DE% moreso than his skills. If we are okay with taking an inside midfield specialist in the 1st then I would be pretty happy with Blakely then take the fast outside types in rounds 2-4, of which there are actually quite a few available.

Won't last to our pick IMO.

I agree he will most probably be gone however if he was a available I would be thrilled if we drafted him .

In regard to the poster who said a best 22 player has broken their hand.

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2014-11-17/nervous-over-nic-nat

In that article is says these players returned:

Beau Waters, Scott Selwood, Brad Sheppard, Will Schofield, Luke Shuey, Eric Mackenzie, Sharrod Wellingham

No mention of Priddis or JK ...could either one be the player?

Not the end of the world as they would be back doing ball work in Jan if true.

Lever is a great prospect. Could become a 193cm mid too.

Lever is surely taking best available if for some reason he slid. There is good depth at 32 and 59 to build the mid and we should have some confidence in some of last couple of years plus Waters.

Don't see Lever as a mid but may get a couple of early starts in there or start as a 3rd tall defender and we can move on Schofield and put pressure on McInnes to put up or he'll be pushed off. Building pressure from the positions 25 to 35 is important. In Lever I see the commander of backline like when Jacko was playing.

If we drafted it Lever it would also allow the Gov to become a permanent CHF as Lever is a perfect intercepting third man.

I didn't get told which player it was, just that it was a best 22. Priddis ran in the time trials today so not him, although you could still run with it on.

From all accounts this is an extremely even draft, and everyone's considered on a similar level between ~5 and ~30, so the definition of 'reaching' isn't as clear as it might have been in previous years.

It'll come down to what types of players teams want to take a punt on. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cockatoo is taken before 11 but also wouldn't be surprised if he's taken in the 20s.
