Next season wish list

New Game plan
Astro goes back
Bont is fit
recruit a Key defender
recruit a pressure small forward
No McComb, Scott, Hannan, McNeill, Gardiner, Schache
Bevo stops drinking his own bath water

Team something like this

Richards Naughton Keath
Daniel Recruit* Dale
Treloar Libba B Smith
Weightman Bruce Recruit*
Darcy JUH West

English Bont, Macrae

interchange Dunkley, Hunter Bebendo, From Kharmis, Mclean, Cleary, Garcia, Williams, JJ

For the betterment of the team and certainly for his long term health I am all for all Astro back next season we need a new tall defence with Keath as the interceptor . I know Astro is the only marking forward this season but how many big marks does he take against his khamikazi attack in the air that takes out another forward resulting in a rebound.
Astro has to do that this year because he has zero confidence in the players around him - it wasn’t an issue last year when he was number 1 for marks inside 50 in a functioning forward line because he had trust in his support and played to his role.

Going in with Darcy & Jamarra forward gets us no where next year unfortunately - maybe (and I’m still against this) if we get Lobb and cannot find a good defensive replacement you could potentially think about Keath, Naughty, Darcy back and Bruce, Lobb & Jamarra up front.

Personally I’d prefer to build a forward line around Naughty, Bruce & Jamarra building chemistry together and learning when to fly when to lead their player out of the hotspot, when to lead up to the ball carrier and leave space behind for their teammate etc. it can be done and work super efficiently with those 3 guys. That’s what we need to build around.

Keath to full back needs to be partnered with a gun CHB like Barrass, Pearce etc and Darcy roaming third tall.

Our midfield feels so slow right now and we aren’t even tougher than the opposition to make up for that.

Smith will help when he’s back next week. But it’s a concern how far that group has fallen off.

It looks bad but I think we just need to pivot how we go about it in there rather than start from scratch. The lack of options in front of the ball make our skills look worse and the direction to overuse by hand when opposition has worked it out and now cover our outlets makes us look more pressured and rushed than we really are.

Back to basics, no streaming forward of the play into overly offensive positions - focus is winning the ball at the coalface and if you can’t win it at least limit the opposition walking it out of there. Back to how we built our game under McCartney 8 years ago. No rolling an extra up to the stoppage butchering our targets up the ground, back Dunks, Libba and West in in the middle to win their positions pound for pound. Baz and Treloar rolling through for pace and Bont & Macrae defensive beasts with class going forward. Get the mix right and stop with the overreliance on handball first mentality.

English is a concern, maybe it’s extra clear in my mind after a night like last night but I’m still not sold on his ruckcraft.

Is anyone else sick of watching him waltz goal side of the pack before we’ve even won possession? Yes when it works out it looks amazing having our 200cm unicorn streaming out the front of a pack delivering inside 50.

But I’m sorry this is not your job as a ruckman.

A ruckman should be winning the ruck contest, putting the ball into an advantageous position for our inside midfielders and then following up on hands and knees at ground level, blocking and bullocking for our mids and putting your big **** off lump of a body in harms way to limit the oppositions release from the contest. Not sitting pretty goal side of the pack all alone whilst the opposition streams forward.

Can Timmy do this? Im really not sure he can - there’s a reason why our clearance differential and contested ball has been #1 in the league over the past month and it starts in the ruck.

Should be used as a KPD backup ruck. He doesnt have the frame or tank to do a solid 4 quarter ruck role and he certainly doesnt appear have the confidence to back himself.

Daniel is a big out and it seems we were trying to replicate his influence playing Treloar back there.

It makes sense, just probably didn’t play out as planned.
That makes sense. Hannan back there and not in the VFL makes as much sense as Wood forward.

Gards Gards Gards - I have backed him not because I think he is a good player but because he is a development prospect and frankly we don’t have anyone else so have to do the best we can with what we have.

This idea that Gardner is, not ony our best option but our only option is such rubbush.

Zaine Cordy not only was better, but still is a better option.

Our defence has been at sea this year since he was initially displaced, and even worse after he was dropped so he can't come back and help when required.

Our side would be so much better structured for one simple change.

In: Cordy Out: Gardner

Unfortunately it would mean Bevo admitting he made a mistake so baring injury it's unlikely to happen.

Feel for Josh Bruce. After missing out last year, he could have made a real difference to the team this season but just as he's close to knocking on the door we're effectively done for 2022.

I feel for Bruce as well because he's one player that you can guarantee will show heart and actually cares. It means something to him.

Bevo's Brief this week - sounds like he's not expecting many supporters to turn up next week😮
Jeez I almost feel for the bloke, if we are being honest he really loves this club and obviously wants the best for but he really needs to get someone in to shake things up and stop relying on his own thoughts and feeling l’s about players when throwing the magnets around.

Yeah I’ve been pretty rough on him as it’s just so disappointing now to see where we are but you’re right he does obviously care.

I wonder if he could swallow his pride and accept he’s finished as our coach but move into an advisory role overseeing the football department? Or is he too close to the club/players to be successful in this role? I really think he’d be perfect for this, he’s obviously a brilliant people person and manager, I just don’t trust his football judgement and I suspect it’s never really been that good tbh.

Alan Richo was a failed coach whose now having success in that role as a director of coaching, albeit at a different Club.

Hire someone to replace him but have him in charge of the coaching department, no say in the day to day running of our game day plans, tactics, moves but let him try and get the best out of the coaches as a group - be the man that oversees who does what etc. he’s brilliant in management and knows people and how to get the best out of people, and whose good at what etc. I’m afraid he’s just out of touch tactically on the field

I think a lot of our fan base are flat at the moment. I was actually just thinking last night, the club were looking to hit 50,000 on membership. I think we are just short of that, but I don’t think we’ll pass 40,000 next year due to the cost of living rising and the fact we basically don’t have an identity as a club right now.

There will be a lot of people that would only renew if they actually see our club trying to actively do something in the off season.

Supercoach points are hardly a metric to measure performance against but last night was just the fourth time in the Luke Beveridge era that no Western Bulldogs player scored a minimum of 105 Supercoach/Ranking Points in an AFL match.

R17 2022 vs. Sydney
R5 2019 vs. Carlton
R15 2017 vs. West Coast
R19 2016 vs. Geelong

The wife just tapped me on the shoulder this morning but I'm too depressed from last night.... thats how bad things have got after that performance!

Mojos like our defensive efforts! I've been Bevoed!
C’mon Shac it’s never that bad. I guarantee you, if my girlfriend ever feels the need to tap me I won’t need any extra encouragement regardless of how the Doggies have performed 😉🤣

It could have been just what you needed to get yourself up and about again.

What idiot decided to schedule the Footscray game on Sunday? You can pretty much write off Bruce or McLean as possible inclusions.

I’d say the match committee would be reluctant to bring in anyone off a 5 day break despite 3-4 needing to be dropped. At least Baz will be fresh.

You have been very kind to Bevo. Remember this is a head coach who surrounds himself with yes men and sacks/moves on anyone who stands up to him. I’d pity any head coach who had to work under him if he was in charge of the footy department at our club.

lol.... thats like Ted Whittens last speech in his last game "Your Gotta Inspire me"

Look out wifey, shac is kicking with the wind tonight ;)

This goddam season just will not die.

GC roll over the top of Rich, Coll very nearly lose to North and now the Saints just got flogged by Freo.

Somehow, we are still in the hunt

I see it, but it don't believe it
Only spot in the 8 we could catch is Richmond, and they have an extremely easy draw from here. It’s done in my opinion
