in my honest opinion, i think the lions should be a tiny bit shorter in the odds.
I believe the game could go either way, its perfectly balanced. Maybe a slight home ground advantage to the blues.

comparing the top tier midfielders they basicly break even
black -> judd
power -> murphy
johnstone -> gibbs

im keen for the game as it should be very even, anyone who thinks else wise is more than likely just bias.

Blacks not as good as Judd anymore, I'd say Powers still better than Murphy but Gibbs is alot beter than Johno these days imo.
Should be a good game, this will be the real test of where we're at (thought it was coming last week but..) and its hardly a lock to the op.
:rolleyes:

Black better than Judd? Haha.

I'm not sure how you can even say this with a straight face?

Adding to that point, Black has had no pre-season and didn't play last week, he'll be short of match fitness and sharpness.

Power is ahead of Murphy, I'll give you that and Gibbs and Johnno are very close.

I think Hadley (as I've said all pre-season) is still the key for Carlton.

No need for the stupid "Sydney or Melbourne" comment. Carlton haven't beaten Sydney for 11 games straight, but this isn't about Sydney.

I'm not sure who had Richmond as finals certainties last week, but the fact remains they've played like a bottom 2 side for a long time now (I realise they ended last year quite well) but now a win over them makes a team a finals lock. Weird?

You make the comment about people who don't learn, but that can be applied to many of your fellow supporters who've been telling us how Carlton are back as a threat, **** the rest etc. Carlton might make the 8, but they haven't yet, so they're not back.

I wasn't even arrogant after my team won a flag and contested another GF, but kudos to the highly optimistic Carlton fans I guess. Hopefully for your sake the confidence is justified, otherwise you'll cop it from everyone.

It's funny, you say all us Carlton fans are being arrogant and over-confident. Half of us (including me), haven't said anything like that until this week - which has been a response to all the idiot BF supporters trash talking us. I'm not here to tell everyone how great Carlton are, I'm here to give us the credit which supporters here won't give. It's funny how before the game, Richmond were certainties for the finals, now b/c Carlton thrashed them, they've always been shit, and Carlton beat a "bottom 2 :rolleyes:" side.

I don't want people to think of us as certainties for the finals - I certainly don't think that. What I want is for people to give credit where credit is due. I can't remember a team receiving so little credit for such a big win. If it was any other team everyone here would be salivating over how great a season that the team was gonna have. Instead all the trolls come out - and you have the nerve to say all us Carlton supporters are arrogant and predicting the ultimate glory? Half of us are just here to shut up the pre-game trolls.

When threads are created pre-game by BF fools claiming how the hype around Carlton is stupid as Carlton are shit and are gonna be taught a lesson, how do you expect Carlton supporters to react when we come out and thrash them? Obviously we're gonna put all those fools back in their places. The sad thing is, a lot of them havn't learnt, and have said the exact same thing here. So be prepared for another influx of Carlton supporters if we win on Saturday night. People really should learn to avoid righting off and criticising a team before a game, as the benefit of hindsight really does come in handy sometimes

Yeah I said Blacks not as good as Judd anymore?
As in hes worse ...

Merret is one of the most under rated defenders in the AFL. One of the best spoilers there is and despite his size, he is deceptively quick.

Much better full back than Carlton have right now.
Do you think Ratten would drop Jamison to pick Merrett at full back if he had the choice? :confused:

We wouldn't.

Jamison is a gun and can kick.
Merrett, Patfull, Drummond, MacDonald >>>>>>> Jamison, Bower, Thornton et al.

Watch more footy.

Brisbane's backline is its strongest component. Just because you don't recognise the names doesn't change that.
That's why Carlton held Brisbane to 16 goals in round 17 minus Jamison who held Bradshaw goalless in round eight.

Brisbane's backline has good sweepers, but defending isn't exactly their strong suit IMO.

Cloke, Fevola, Houlihan, Waite and Fisher kicked 14 goals between them against Brisbane's backline in round 21. Houlihan nailed three goals from three kicks in the first quarter because he was allowed to get goal side by Brisbane's defenders.

Carlton has the better tall and medium defenders.

Jamison and Thornton are the equal of Merrett and Patfull.

Thornton has shown more than Patfull and punched out of his weight division for years.

I think you know very little about Jamison, Thornton, Bower, Waite, Johnson, Scotland and Grigg (Joseph this week) who are playing this round. Scotland and Johnson aren't great defenders, but they have good disposal and set up play off half back like Drummond.

Watch more footy. :rolleyes:

You guys are clinging on to that one victory last year like rats on driftwood. Coneback victories against Brisbane last year were a dime-a-dozen. Nearly every side notched one up.

You seem to forget that the same side has pummelled you consistently before that.

Regardless, I was directly responding to an idiotic post by another supporter and you have done the old "mediumsizered" approach and you have stepped in with a healthy dose of straw men to boot.

My ">>>>>" comment was delivered with a liberal dose of irreverence, but as usual, you miss the boat entirely. I'll stand by the remark though, I'd back most neutral supporters to prefer Merrett/Patfull/Drummond/MacDonald over Jamieson, Thornton, Bower, Waite.

Well said Waitey but unfortunately your logical, sensible and well constructed reply will be lost on the majority of the one eyed moronic trolls that inhabit most "Carlton" BF threads.

I am like you in that I don't think Carlton are any kind of a lock for the 8 this year, but I am more than hopeful that if they consistently play and tackle like they did in Rd. 1, maybe some Sept. action is possible, but not certainly not guaranteed.

And you seem to be clinging onto the legendary Lions side of the past and forgetting that times, and our respective sides, have changed.

Plus, surely you just when you say the "same" side has pummelled us consistently. Your team has quite a lot of youngsters now, and I would say that at least 50% of your side havn't "pumelled" us very much at all. Not to mention that the majority of our side are different to the side, that like most teams, got regularly pummelled by you guys a few years back

I'm not talking 2003 dude, we beat you last year at the Dome, and by over 100 points the year before that at the Gabba, but apparently the game at the Gabba last year (which TheGeneral erroneously named as round 17) is the only one that counts.

The funny thing is, I said early in the thread that Carlton will probably win, yet the thread has got so bitchy and pathetically tribal that I am now being called out by Carlton supporters on general benign comments, simply because I have Brisbane under my avatar. Lighten the hell up. Geelong and Hawthorn supporters must be pissing themselves laughing at the squabble of teams fighting for scraps under the table.

I don't believe that any past form really 'counts', but the second game last year is the most recent formguide.

More than likely we'll win comfortably and I think last year showed and in Round 1, we can put bursts on like almost no other team and get a heap of goals quickly - at the Docklands it is probably easier to do that too so it could blow out.

It's far from over but there was one of our trademark bursts with a heap of goals quickly.

But the first quarter showed why this game was far from a lock either way
