MRP / Trib. Dockers shock as Sylvia faces month-long ban

I'm no big city lawyer, but that doesn't look like a conviction to me, but a meaningless order from the court, saying not to break the law for 12 months (but after that is ok ) handed out as a means to cover their arse and perhaps say, keep you're nose clean we're watching you.

I think that it's a pretty reasonable assumption to make that he didn't receive it for putting too much sugar in her coffee, yes?

They had reconciled as a couple, ( she forgave him for whatever reason), so she was not going to testify against him. So the coppers main witness was gawn and they had a nothing case, but wanted to make a point to Sylvia regardless.

However there was also a witness who said that he appeared to kick her and then threatened to kill the bystander if he went to the coppers.

All in all, I would presume that it was nicely hushed up by a Melbourne FC silk and made to all go away.

Either way, he was pissed and acted in an extremely inappropriate manner to his girlfriend and a bystander in a public place.

All of this goes to ImperialPurple's original point that he has form for being a knob.

Nathan Bock did the same thing.

Let's all be thankful that the horrible Nick Carter (backstreet boys)/Justin Timberlake (n'sync) hair cut stayed in Melbourne when Colin moved over.

And be better safe than sorry

Sylvia maintains he kicked her bag (still a stupid thing to do, especially for someone battling OP at the time) . It was 3:30 in the morning, it's likely the witness was also affected by alcohol and easily misconstrued the events.

You would assume wrong, Sylvia got in the shit for not going to MFC and for trying to keep it quiet from them. He used a legal aid lawyer who was probably pretty happy to close the case without penalty, but didn't care about how it would look.

I have no problem with him being labeled a knob, I do have a problem with him being labeled a woman basher, which was my main point.

I think you are being far too kind, and even a little naive, if you think the coppers would have continued in court if all he did was kick her bag.

Anyway, agree to disagree, (cos I respect your opinion on most things), but I think you are way off the mark here.

I withdraw my statement about a Melbourne silk.

Like I said at the start, I'm not saying he didn't do it, I'd just like to be a bit more sure before I feel someone deserves that label.

Y'know slicedndiced , for someone that was having a go in the Frawley thread that someone assumed McPharlin would be gone next year you have done a fair amount of assuming of your own in this thread.

Any other circumstantial evidence you can find of his alleged woman bashing (preferably more recent than 8 years ago)?

I'm all for innocent until proven guilty, however I also understand that there is the undeniable provision of "beyond reasonable doubt". Also, how can I bring up new evidence from an incident that happened 8 years ago?

Tell me this:- why did his missus suddenly drop the charge, or even, why did she lay the charge in the first place?

Why was a witness willing to testify in a court hearing? Do you know how much bullshit that entails?

Why did the coppers, and the judge, at least pursue an order against him....very, very unusual in these circumstances. Normally it would be charges withdrawn Your Worship, next case please.

Why did he, and his father, say that he is only guilty of an argument, but Sylvia strived to keep it secret from the MFC?

Why would you kick someones handbag?

I believe that it is a very fair and honest assumption to make considering the weight of evidence, however, in cases like this, if the victim, (wife/girlfriend), refuses to testify there is no case.

far, far, far to much smoke.

You sound like a tabloid journalist.

Considering the weight of evidence? Then in the next sentence oh by the way there is none?

Maybe he didn't want the club finding out he was out drinking at 3:30AM? Maybe the witness was a Collingwood fan? Maybe he was rude to the cop and he had a chip on his shoulder?

Either way, if the only 'evidence' you have that the guy is a woman basher over the last ten years from a public figure like an AFL player who is well and truly more likely to be in the news than the average Joe then I think it should be dropped.

But he's still chased down a bloke and whacked him behind play

It's easy to see how people could think that, but I'm pretty sure the player that got whacked chased Sylvia down... stopped next to him (probably provided a bump/nudge/rib punch/words) and Sylvia retailated by swinging an arm back. Forearm, elbow, fist... not sure what made contact, as it's too hard to see from the vision.

But he didn't chase the guy down. He reacted to something Mahoney said or did. Doesn't excuse it, but it changes the context a little.

EDIT: Whoops. Looking at it again, it does look like he chased the guy down! Looking on full-screen on a monitor makes a fair difference compared to a phone.

I think we can consider the weight of evidence to conclude that Colin Sylvia is a dickhead and can once and for all put to bed the idea that any club has a "no dickheads" policy.
