Does Murphy get to 300?

I didn't think he was particularly good in the VFL, not bad either, but a baseline game for an experienced veteran.

I'd leave him in there another week then get him to 300 providing he performs the expected amount on recall.

He was a good player in a dark time for the club and I'll remember his talent positively but not his captaincy, which seemed to be given for his talent not for any obvious leadership.

I think champion is a title he hasn't earned, compared to the glories achieved to Carlton players of old and some of his contemporaries at other clubs.

I think in reflection Murphy will be seen as a good player who never hit his Heights due to a combination of factors, mostly related to injury and bad luck. He had one outstanding season than in isolation showed what might have been.

Good luck Marc

It was like that when pagan took over, older players barely did any gym work and refused do extra when asked. Did what they liked.

I'll never forget one match, Kouta was "captain", we were getting pummeled, 3/4 time address, pagan consulted with his captain, Kouta looked at him
with a blank expression, shrugged his shoulders (like i don't give a fk, not my problem) and walked away. I'll never forget it
So when Kouta complains about not being invited to the club for coaching (young players) even for free. Its justified.

I loved Kouta as a player but we should really leave it at that. That ridiculous contract we gave him was the beginning of the end IMO.

Ever thought he may just be going through the motions due to the fact if he gets a injury (serious or not) his 300 game milestone this year would be jeopardised. Damned if he does or damned if he doesn't I think. Give him the Medical sub to get him there. He's been a former champion of our club and we must respect his loyalty to the club.
Haha, I do believe you have come up with the worst argument I've come across on bigfooty (no mean feat). 'Ever thought he's soft because he doesn't want to get hurt' as a defence for a professional footballer. I love it.

I feel that the fact he's in the squad means he's going to play this week folks. Let the melts begin!

With all this focus and negativity about whether Murphy deserves to get to 300 games, can’t help feeling the recent poor performances of a few players like Martin, Williams, Ed and Doc are getting under the radar.

By all means get stuck into Murph but surely there’s plenty of hate to go around for other players.

Yep there was a reason so Martin had a good run in the seconds -- he really needs to play that Gary rowen role -- if he does something good great if he doesn't well it happens ....

How about now? :D
TBH I am not strongly against this particular selection, more the concern is that broadly the coaching team/selection committee has its head in the sand!

It's efforts like this I am sick of, regardless if it is in the reserves.

Then walks past the contest, turning his back to the play.

And have a look at who is watching and absorbing that effort, of a nearly 300 game great of our club...

Get him to 300 to show gratitude for his loyalty then he can retire, enough is enough.View attachment 1161669

Keep an eye on his right foot through these passages of play, right up until the moment you've GIF'd for impact.

How about you take your own advice and lift your game?

Is that the same right foot he used to pass the ball straight back to the opposition just prior to that (101 minute mark)?

There is no pretty way to wrap that putrid effort, no matter how hard you try.

That's exactly where the timestamp starts... he tweaked his ankle and had to run it off. If you're not even able to pick up on that - with the direct prompt no less - how in the world can anyone take your comments and efforts here seriously?

Clown car stuff, honestly. Put a pin in it, you're all coming off like entitled children.

Hope that's not the right ankle he uses to kick the ball off the ground instead of putting his head over it.......

I thought he came over - becausae he was promised midfield duties...if that wasnt the case tehn someone(s) have certainly stuffed things up.
He came over for $$$$$. Let's not blurr the lines. Good luck to him, but after you are called the laziest player in the AFL, you had better respond.

The only one coming off like an entitled child is you.

There are no excuses fir Murph, no matter how much you love him.

The only time I've ever seen you apply the blowtorch like this is when you clearly don't like a player or poster. The club knew about these limitations, and accepted them when signing him (likely on a lot less money than you think).

Your frustration is born of expecting him to be a 26-year old Marc Murphy, without the worn out hands, shoulders and ankles. Stop thrashing about this website about it, it's actually depressing.

If you were even-handed about this, I wouldn't have needed to comment.

I’m a relatively new poster but these are my views on Murphy.

I have been worried ever since he signed on last year for an extra season that this narrative would play out. Sadly Murphy is not the great free running midfielder he once was and is now only capable of cameos against teams like Gold Coast and Hawthorn playing as a small half forward using his kicking to hit targets inside 50.

But nowadays that role also requires applying pressure and disciplined positioning - things he has struggled to do and is likely the reason for his omission from the team. Obviously there should be no circumstance where he gets another contract next season so what can we get out of him between now and seasons end?

Whilst I was initially a bit disheartened by his selection for today’s game after thinking about it I can see why. Firstly due to injuries and poor form there are relatively few aside from Honey that are ready to be given a chance. Fisher’s injury definitely played into his hands as he is more like-for-like with Fisher than Honey (who is probably competing with Silvagni for the taller half forward role - more on that elsewhere), so I think he had to come in.

We’ve heard from Teague he’s been told what he needs to do to play well in this new role and having been dropped twice already he should understand the match committee will respond if he performs as he did against West Coast when he was shocking, so the threat of ending his career in the reserves on 296 games should be real.

Therefore this game is an opportunity, possibly his last, against another team outside the 8 to play his role and get back into the team for the run home which, Geelong aside, (I wouldn’t play him against the Cats for the reasons mentioned above), we play teams that he could contribute against.

Eddie needs to play every game for the remainder of the season to get to 350.... perhaps we crawl murphy to 300 and get him to play it with Ed on 350.
That would actually be beautiful.

If only it were at the G!

Still, at least it's not an away game.

Apparently it's from the way his shoulders and ankles formed at birth... :confusedv1:
