Autopsy Dogs apparently NOT out coached again... but still find a way to lose 78 v 73

But nothing gets done about it. Not a thing.

In the end, it's what the club is prepared to accept. Clearly the club is happy to accept the sort of garbage served up today and for the past two years.
YEP and until we revamp the whole football club department starting with bringing Matthew Boyd to club nothing will change

Beveridge seems to have a short term view of the team, believing we are always on the cusp of greatness.

Hence short term fixes and tweaks which may or may not work for a game or two.

We have a list full of injury prone auck fix fix older players, project players and players asked to perform multiple roles and a few elite players asked to do everything.

The high defensive press costs us every week when the opp get a run on and stops us holding any final quarter lead. Needs to go - obviously too much work.

Our defenders need to learn one on one defending and our forwards need apply pressure. We need to generate midfield turnovers that damage the opposition. Never happens because we are too slow to react.

None of this is likely to happen in the next 2 seasons.

I have not felt this flat since 3QT of the GF in 2021. Some very similar stories ...
  • Periods of brilliance (1st half) and domination
  • Missing of numerous straightforward 30-40m set shots
  • Multiple players flying for a mark and spoiling one another
  • Opposition get multiple goals on the run (5 this week) to go from 20 points down to 11 points up
  • High press resulting in easy run in goals and out number behind the ball
  • Questionable selections and stubbornness (Naughton stays forward, when we needed him back)

Cornes and King on SEN in their Friday segment 'in the gun' had Toby Greene's opponent (King) and Luke Beveridge (Cornes) ... they will come hard this week. Normally I'm supportive of Bevo ... The definition of insanity is 'doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.' For the first time since the end of 2014, I'm genuinely worried. Do 'ALL' players seem like they are 100% invested ... for me it's a NO.

The next 3 games will be telling.

Have only seen chunks of today's match but struggle to imagine how anything I see could justify the level vitriol being directed at Bevo tonight.

Did he run out and intentionally injure Keath and Bruce?

Was he responsible for Jamarra badly wasting a golden opportunity to win the match?

Don't see anyone calling for JUH's head for being unable to execute a very simple kick at goal when completely in the clear?

I tell you what really pees me off, Seeing English ruck deep forward and Lobb standing at the top of the goal square. WTF is Lobb going to do there? He should be rucking, and English should be a kick behind the ball helping the defense and taking a quick breather.

Isn't that another reason of playing two rucks.

If Lobbs defender is then a spare, it probably doesn't make a huge difference as it will be a heavily congested area.

Sorry dude - wasn’t actually a dig at your or your post. Sycophants referred to are all sitting at whitten oval HQ.

I just felt like having a bit of a rant…..
No sweat.

I just get annoyed at the deluge of sack the coach panaceas that we see every week after a loss.

Our problems are deeper than those of just our game plan.

I thought I was pretty clear. At the very least stop playing such a high defensive line when you’re six goals up in a low scoring game and the easiest way the other team can get back into it is to kick easy goals in transition. Don’t roll Lobb back to KPD when he’s patently not the right option - roll Naughton back instead.

That’s just the third quarter today. I’m not a coach, just a frustrated fan who can’t understand why a premiership coach is shitting the bed.

I understand some posters disagree, that’s the nature of this. But I can’t see a way out of this mediocrity without a change in coach.
There's a reason that no team leaves a full back in the square.

If we hold our shape behind the ball in the defensive half and allow GWS to push their forwards through the middle of the ground then they will use their numbers and speed around the ball to advantage and play checkers around our defensive zone. We had no choice but to go with them and try and use our clearance game to our advantage. Because we all know that once it gets wide of the initial contest we're ****ed. At this point it makes no difference where our defensive press is placed on the ground.

The coach may indeed be mediocre and Im on record here saying I couldn't care less if he was fired into the sun. The issue I have is a practical one of unless he falls on his sword. A change just isn't going to happen less than a year our from a contract extension. All of the huffing and puffing in the world about Beveridge isn't going to change that fact. Im also on record in saying that this board vastly overrates the quality of our list. It's pretty evident that it's just too shallow for it to be a serious contender. In my view there isn't much beyond about a dozen players that I would lose any sleep over if they were also fired into the sun.

I can't see a way out of this mediocrity without gutting the entire side.

Who are these blistering speed demons GWS have that are renowned for their pace that you speak off?
Geelong won a flag last year with a bunch of snails. Our gameplan is s**t, pure and simple.

Kelly, Bedford, Callaghan, Whitfield, Greene and Daniels all have more ability to run, carry and hit up to the advantage of a teammate than just about anybody in our midfield. A midfield that outside of The Bont, Libba and Daniel, wouldn't hit the water if they fell out of a boat in the middle of the ocean. Their delivery i50 today was as dumb as it was diabolical even when allowing for the conditions.

Geelongs list was light years ahead of us last year in terms of its balance and experience. Even if that balance was on the precipice. This year they're just as middling as we are because the game has moved onto one where run and carry is paramount.

The game has moved past both sides.

We do fantastic when everything goes our way. The minute we lose a player or the opposition make a change we are left chasing tail, absolutely no plan B.
Yep, post of the thread.

We’re so good when things go our way, the problem is we expect that to continue. We are not set up for adversity at all

Some positives...

English, Treloar, Libba, Macrae and Dale were pretty much all at their best.

Cleary is definitely worth persisting with, hard to gauge with our backline today but certainly didn't look out of place at AFL level.

Despite two shocking misses, I thought Scott played very well, two very nice contested marks and tackled well.

Storm whitten oval and protest, bevo has to go. Keeping Naughton forward when we are 2 backs down and getting beaten, wtf. This has happened too often this year and I like the rest of you have had enough. Bevo needs a new batch of napoli sauce. Piss off Bevo.

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

It would appear that Bevo's well has run dry. GWS changed what they were doing and we didn't adjust once again. Injuries didn't help but was still a winnable match.
We drop too many matches that good sides just don't drop.
We are the anti Collingwood

I despise our game plan and Bevo’s stubbornness to tweak it. We are up by 35 points kicking into the breeze. Most coaches would have their defence hold back fill up space, protect the lead, chip it around and essentially hold that lead. We push so far up that on the turnover we get burnt as we aren’t quick. Who is CD, Macrae catching on the turnover? With a slowish midfield pushing the defenders so high is costing us games. Also why was Duryea so quick to leave Green when they got the fast break. Stick on Green and force the lesser likes to kick the goal. Shattering defeat, no momentum coming into finals now.

It might be clearer should you watch the entire 2nd half
